Easter Weekend in Cornwall Europe » United Kingdom » England » Cornwall By lukestanley April 6th 2007 luke stanleyThe first new trip since I’ve been back was the boys renting a very fast Ford Focus and heading to Cornwall for Easter Weekend. Fun and games in Torquay the first night with Tucker missing most of the country views on the drive the next day. Second night was more relaxed in St Ives and woke up to a breakfast on the water with dolphins passing by, lovely English seaside experience. Even squeezed in a visit to Stonehenge, The Eden Project and IKEA in Bristol (mo... read more

Moving house.... Europe » United Kingdom » England » London » Hammersmith By lukestanley April 1st 2007 luke stanleyAfter living with friends for 5 weeks Tucker and Pete and myself found a new (literally just renovated) pad in Hammersmith so we moved in and went IKEA shopping. We’ve just found a new housemate and the place is right near the Thames and Rogers office so I can walk to work along the water. It doesn’t get much better in London.... read more

Lords & Abbey Road Europe » United Kingdom » England » London By lukestanley March 10th 2007 luke stanleyNow i'm not the world's biggest cricket fan but as the tour of Lords included a bit of modern architecture in the form of the media centre by Future Systems I went along and was surprised by how entertaining the old Lords tour guides were. Well worth a look, and the ashes are there despite us winning them how many times. Also popped into Abbey Road and did the zebra crossing. Didn't see Kate Bush though.... read more

Welcome back to Ye Olde London Town Europe » United Kingdom » England » London » Hammersmith By lukestanley February 7th 2007 luke stanleyWell it’s been a long time coming but to anyone that’s still interested here some pictures from Luke in London ‘the Second Coming’. As you can see I left my homeland at 35 degrees to land in the UK and find it snowing in Hammersmith. Nice. But once I sorted out a job and temporary house I figured I may as well make the most of the weather and headed b... read more

Here's some shots from the last few months in London, we did manage to get to Bath for the weekend and Cambridge for a day. Also spent last weekend at what they call a beach here, which is really a whole lot of pebbles in one place at Hastings, still it was nice to have a dip in the Atlantic. Anyway we're off now for more travels but if you don't here from me I'll see you all in Oz some time between the 13th of October and January 3rd.... read more

What a place to finish off in the ye olde canal city and home to so many sights including the Anne Frank Haus the red light district and of course those coffee shops. Considering I haven't smoked coffee in years we didn't really jump for joy at that feature but the rest of Amsterdam is an amazing mix of people, sights, history, ladie's in windows, gorgeous canals, windmills, live sex shows and about a million push bikes. So it appeared pushies were the only way to do it and once we negotiated the whole correct side of the road issue we were off for a day of peddle powered fun. Carmel once again had the full architectural tour but we finished off the day with some great food and a fasinating few hours wandering the city ... read more

Ok go to Rotterdam if you want to see some good architecture (some of it's getting a bit dated now) and also if you want to see the most awkard living spaces in the world within the cube houses. Then leave for Amsterdam before you get the letter warning you that the hostel had Legionnaires disease in the air conditioning.....that's not a lie, but we're still here........cough.....cough.... read more

So these last few blogs are going to be short cause Mum has just arrived in London and we're off to Ireland tomorrow morning. All sounds good but that's what you get for not having a sickie in 8 months - bloody contract work. Anyway in summary after getting a tan on top of the hill at Ronchamp Carmel & I headed to the flat lands of Belgium. We had two wonderful nights in a B&B in the centre of the town of Brugge and we ate mussels, belgium chocolate and lots of cherry and blonde beers. We cruised the canals, spent some time playing with the windmills on the hills and after being tempted to buy out the entire TinTin shop we departed for an afternoon in Brussells. After wandering the square we caught up ... read more

After getting a good dose of sun on the lake cruise in Lucerne we arrived in the architectural Mecca that is Basel. After some rest we woke to three inches of snow falling in flakes so big you could build an igloo. So with the memories of our previous days sunshine disappearing we donned our cold weather gear and headed off for the German border to the Vitra Design Museum. Now last time I was here it was all sunshine and green grass, not the case this time as it was a winter wonderland of architectural classics. I didn't think Gehry's Museum could get any whiter. Once our tour was completed and I managed to leave the shop without buying the collection of €300 scaled down chairs we were faced with the notion of only having ... read more

So with Vals topping our week of skiing for best place to visit so far we headed to Lucerne to see what was next. In brief it we had two days of relaxing in a great hostel opposite the Lake, long walks through the old city, a visit to the very sad but impressive Lion sculpture and a glacier theme park (weird). Lucerne is quite picturesque and given more time and money we would have taken the cable car up Mount Pilates and had a drink overlooking the lakes but instead we just wandered around the old city, drooled over chocolate fountains and picked up some very expensive rings (long story, and they weren't for us). With a change of plans on our last day we got a cruiser down the Lake under clear blue skies ... read more
