Im 26 years old. I am a student at Northern Kentucky University, but I went to school in Glasgow, Scotland from September 15 - Dec 13 at Glasgow Caledonian University. I traveled all over Scotland, England, and Ireland while I was there, then checked out China!! I made the most unbelievable friends from all over the world... and I have traveled to Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Spain, and Italy visiting them for 3 weeks over Christmas break 2007!! So as far as my future with traveling is concerned ...I love to travel and meet new people .... and I look forward to the random BS that I expose myself to...well, at least a more "worldly" form of BS!!!

August 30th 2010

Our plane landed nearly an hour earlier than anticipated. We could see rain and smog blanketing the Pudong airport as our 14 hour flight ended. Rushing through imigration and customs we found Jet waiting for us at the International arrival's section. We loaded up all of our luggage and crammed into Jet's little Audi TT. Then it was 125KM an hour to our hotel. We found ourselves only taking a quick cleaning and changing in the hotel before it was back in the TT dodging through Shanghai traffic to dinner. Dinner was at an old Villa. It was very fancy and very friendly (at least I'm assuming what the workers were saying to me were pleasantries)! We had a private dining room and waiting for us were two familiar faces, Cristina and Isa. I hadn't seen ... read more

It is midnight. I am lying on a mattress in my good friend Conchis' flat in Zaragoza, Spain. I can't help but realize how much of an emotional roller coaster it is to travel the globe visiting long lost friends... 4:30 am December 29: Fog is being punched through as a black BMW races through the frosty Alpine roads of Switzerland. The distant glow of light burns silently on the mountains and valleys like scattered stars. Sleepy eyes are blinking at the breath of the morning air. “Zurich is 45 more minutes away” Bernd says to me... After spending two days meeting Bernd's friends as well as our mutual friend, and fellow exchange student, Stefan, Bernd and I were on our way to Spain. Before I go on, I need to elaborate on who we were ... read more

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring ... except for Elliott who put off packing for his European trip until Christmas Eve... Flying out on Christmas day was a bit of a worry for me. I didn't know how I would feel spending Christmas in airports and planes. However, this thought was quickly overcome by the amazing Christmas that I spent with my family on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning before going to the airport. Of course this didn't mean that things were going to be easy for me ... My original flight was supposed to be from Cincinnati to Atlanta to connect to my flight to Zurich. Flying standby, I missed my small hop to Atlanta. However, my luggage didn't seem to miss that flight ... but ... read more

Knocking, knocking …. Why won’t it stop?? I woke up with beer still swimming in my head. The room had packed bags arranged on the floor. The shelves were bare, and the walls void of any decorations. There was a Chinese guy knocking at my door; Jet. It was the day I was leaving Caledonian Court in Glasgow for good, and it was the day I was going to Shanghai, China with Jet…. It was also the day that I woke up late. The train was leaving in 30 minutes...shit .. I didn’t even shower; I just grabbed my toothbrush and cleaned my teeth while throwing the last minute things into my bag. I splashed some water onto my sleepy eyes and massaged my face. There was a lot of traveling ahead. Walking out my door ... read more

So, it has been another long wait between blogs. I have been incredibly busy here in Glasgow. I just finished a 3000 word paper, and am working on another one at the moment. A lot has happened since my last post, most importantly being the visit of my dad, sister, brother-in-law, and cousin!! My dad and Jamie arrived November 7th with just enough time left in the night to go out and have a few pints and a few whiskies with my friends Jet, and Bernd. It was a great introduction to Scotland for them!!! Bernd enjoys whisky, but it was actually Jets first time to drink it. He said that the Chinese had to show their respect by drinking the same drink as their elder, and drinking as much as they do. Needless to say, ... read more

Over the weekend I went back to Edinburgh to pick up where I left off after storming the castle. It was time to pillage and plunder the city!! It was time to taste some whisky!!! Seven companions left Glasgow to Edinburgh for the weekend. A guys night out!! Little did we know what was in store for us.... a feast.... at Kentucky Fried Chicken... actually it was two Family Feasts!!! It was a beautiful evening in the Colonels hall. Our suite (Hostel) at Brodies was on the Royal Mile. It made it easy to dispatch, and explore. However, there was some difficulty in the operation. The Scottish weather blessed us with a steady downpour of chilled rain. Gusts of bitter wind delivered icy volleys as we tried to maneuver the cobblestone streets towards the nightlife. There ... read more

My head throbbed as I pulled on my warm fleece before walking out into the crisp Scottish air. Over a half-dozen people from different countries congregated around a weather beaten bench as snippets of stories of the night before drifted around our small crowd. Struggling to gain our morning composure we began our tract to the Buchanan Bus Station to catch the 10:00am bus to Edinburgh, Scotland. Only minutes into the bus ride I fell fast asleep leaning up against a chilled window, with heat from my head steaming the glass. My Ipod lulled me into the eminent trance with tunes from Johnny Cash. It was an hour and fifteen minute bus ride to the Edinburgh City Center, though it only seemed like a few minutes later I awoke to The Killers while blinking into the ... read more

I'm now comfortably settled into my flat!! I have a guy from China, 2 guys from Scotland, a girl from Spain, a girl from Botswana, and a girl from The Phillipines. We all seem to click pretty well together, so life should be good. The Spanish girl Christina, and the Chinese guy Jet are very good cooks... we have all made a few things to share with eachother. I made Gold Star chilli dip... which everyone LOVED of course. Christina made some Sangria, which was OUTSTANDING.. and with the help of some other Spanish girls, Potato Omellettes, which were equal in quality!! I will have to get the recipe for that. Jet made some Shanghai Fried Rice... AMAZING stuff!! The difference in ethnic foods in our flat is pretty funny. Rice, pasta, olive oil, sunflower oil, ... read more

Whisps of musky air spin candlelight across ancient walls, as dimly lit corners play host to pilgrims in reflection and prayer. I lit my own candle, placing it into a wrought iron stand thats been warmed by countless candles from centuries gone. Paintings surrounding me tell tales of history and miracles. A simple prayer of safety for my friends and family seemed to be multiplied in its deliverence while kneeling in such a place. The hallowed ground of The Crypt in Canterbury Cathedral is reveared as one of the most Holy places on earth. People from all religions, races, and social class have come to this place of worship since the 12th century. No cameras are allowed in The Crypt, it is a place you must physically visit, giving you a deep memory to keep inside ... read more

A glass of champagne, one miller light, four glasses of wine, and a vodka tonic later I landed in London. It was hot, and I was wandering around with 679543068957 lbs (a small exageration) of luggage. This meant only one thing... I better find a pub, and quick. I don't remember the name of that pub, but its where I had my first time with a real guiness, and I was ready for it!! 9am here drinking a guiness ... I was still on Kentucky time, it was like an after hours drink. By the way mom, when you read this blog and future blogs, replace the words "Guiness" and "Pint" with "Fruit Juice" and "Bottled Water", while alternating "Church" and "Class" for "Pub" After the seduction of the guiness I sped off with my 679530907257 ... read more
