Well, after a year away, I'm home. I was like a kid in a candy store on the airplane as we landed in Toronto. Looking out the window, grinning like a fool, and thinking of all the things I've missed. No idea how long the thrill of being home will last, but it's good for the moment. My last few days were spent in Germany and they were great. From Valencia I chose Paris. I have no idea why but it seemed like a good idea. After about hour seven on the bus I was starting to rethink the idea. Before I got on the bus I was making faces with a little Spanish boy who was bored and bothering his mother. He was about five years old and thought I was pretty cool (at least someone does). Well after Scotland I headed to Stansted airport by London where I met my old roommate from The White Hart (Karla). We had a wonderful night sleeping on the floor. At first we thought we would just nap in the corner but when people were pulling out mats and sleeping bags we curled up the same and went to sleep. It was not long or comfortable but it was free and convenient for our early flight. Off to Spain once again, Valencia this time. We hopped on the bus and to the campsite we went. Arrived in Scotland and ready for a new adventure. Being in England most of the English asked why in the world I would bother...I thought it was amazing. The weather may not have been wonderful but, I'm Canadian we get used to it. Started by taking a day long bus up to Edinburgh. Not fun. Didn't know that the fringe festival was on so it was a struggle finding a place to stay for the night. Had to switch hostels - turns out the second one was better anyway. Well three months at the Magpie has come and gone. Moving in was horrible. I just got back from Europe and didn't want to be working. I arrived threw my bags down and slept for the next 14 hours. I was sharing a room with a girl from Australia named Mel. She must have thought the worst of me. All I did was sleep and didn't really talk to her on the first day. Auschwitz. I've read many books, watched a few movies, looked at the pictures, but nothing prepares one for the real thing. Headed to Auschwitz I first and did a guided tour. I knew that when I booked the trip that the day would probably be spent in tears, and I was right. I was fine wandering the buildings and seeing the grounds of the camp, but when we got to the suitcases and shoes. Thousands, hundreds of thousands of them stacked behind glass on display. Untitled Andrea Winding down the trip now, starting to actually think that I have to go back to work in just over a week and say goodbye to all the friends that I have made along the way. Bah. We start by driving from Krakow to Warsaw. Not exactly a fun drive as we stop at Auschwitz I and II (Birkenau) along the way. Untitled Andrea Still in Budapest. Wandered the city with Kobi, Bec and Emma. Got lost in Pest ended up in Buda. Ate so much it was almost like Italy all over again. Went to the Buda Castle Labyrinth and got ourselves lost. It was interesting. Walking around in these tunnels built years and years ago originally for shelters and such. There was a calender of sorts down there. A room where wine ran into these mazzive bowls, strange statues and paintings on the walls. Just a strange place in general. Untitled Andrea Istanbul! I love the Grand Bazaar! So many things to see, bargain, and buy. I wandered the city with Ryan looking for outfits for a wedding. Yup, we did a mock wedding. Everyone got a role. I had to look for a mother of the bride dress, and did I find one? You should see it! Pictures to come... Bought some apple tea and turkish delight and not much else.
