Cairns Great Barrier Reef and home time

First day into Cairns was my birthday which involved a 4 hour bus journey from Townsville to start the day off. This was fine though as we got to meet Ben who was the dive instructor on the Whitsunday Atlantic Clipper boat.He was on his way up the coast to find some farm work in Cairns a 3 month prerequisite for somebody who wants to get a second year temporary working visa.So now there were f

We arrived on Magnetic Island at about 3pm on the Sun Ferry and travelled by the island bus to our backpackers hotel Bungalow Bay. This was a great hostel the staff were a little slow at times but the accommodation and the bar etc were pretty sweet. The first night we just got some dinner and chilled at the bar but we then got interrupted by a massive amount of bird noise coming from near the

We arrived in Airlie beach in the morning at 9am after a mammoth 13 hour coach ride. I thought at one point my legs wouldn39t work but they hadn39t failed me yet and this was no exception. Happy days After a short walk passed part of the marina I got to Nomads hostel where we would be staying for 2 nights before heading off on our Whitsunday boat The Atlantic Clipper.I won39t mu

Hervey Bay Fraser Island

Rather eventful trip on the bus to Hervey Island. Just outside of Rainbow Beach about 2 hours from Hervey Bay someone walking along outside thought it was a good idea to throw an egg at the front of the greyhound bus.Combined with the fact our driver was a little bit out there anyway this caused quite a deal of commotion and the bus driver was slightly startled. T be honest imagine the scen

We arrived in Noosa with a large amount of rain falling on us. It really didn39t stop at all. We were staying at the Nomads hostel which is pretty good there is a lovely pool and we are about 10 minutes from the beach. In the first night we spent it in the bar in the hostel a pretty good laugh and met some cool people including a couple of Australians who were up here working.
Brisbane was always going to be a quick stop. We arrived about 10am and were on our way again by 3pm. Previously in Byron the girls had bought a guitar as Debs could play and Caz wanted to learn and as we exited the bus station this guy asked us if we were carrying a flute I joked and said no it39s an oboe and we got talking. We asked him where was best to go in Brisbane when we only

Arrived late ish in the evening to absolute torrential rain. I was staying in the Islander Backpackers which was 30 a night for a 4 dorm share. Maybe it was the rain I dunno but I just wasn39t feeling this place at all. Byron was so different in comparison Surfers was like a mini Vegas and due to the weather you couldn39t really do much. After a rather restless sleep it was pretty h

Not much to say about the bus journey from Sydney to Byron it was 14 hours long and not that much to see really. However Byron was a different story.Let me just say this now Byron Bay is AMAZING everything about it. The people the scenery the weather the bars the live music everything is 1010.It would be here that I would be doing my PADI course at Sundive the dive company which

I got into Sydney on the evening of the 7th Aoril and was picked up by my mate Ginge who I would be staying with in Mosman with his wife Esse.I had an early start the next day so it was quite an early night. Up bright and breezy at 7.15 to get the ferry from Mosman over to Circular Quay for the start of my one day Blue Mountain trip with Oz Trek.
I arrived in Melbourne on Thursday 24th March from Adelaide. I met my friend Helen to get a set of keys and headed down to their place in South Melbourne. First big thing I noticed is that getting round Melbourne is really easy. 3.80 for a 2 hour or 7 for an all day public transport ticket for Zone 1. There are only two zones and I would find I never really strayed outside of Zone 1. The t

From Kaikoura we travelled on an ntercity bus back down to Christchurch. Although we had had a night in Methven this would be our proper night there with our friends Laura and Macky. It was great to see these guys again and also great to see their house and how they well they have coped with the earthquake that happened back at the end of February. This place prides itself on been very green and has recently been awarded a Green Globe status. It is the second city in the world to be given this status. This was a brilliant activity. Our guide Steve got us into the wetsuits and briefed us on how to tackle grade 5 rapids of which there were two on this run.We learnt how to forward paddle back paddle hold on and to get down It was a great day on the water

Unfortunately not much to say on this day really. It was our free day in Dunedin and we had a trip on a tour bus. Sorry but that's about it. We did visit the steepest road in the world though Baldwin Street. We revisted this the next day and walked up to the top. Its so steep that when they laid the road they couldn't lay tarmac as it slid off down the hill. yeah pretty crazy The next

Today was always going to be a long day when it came to travelling. We were up at 6am to get the bus at 6.45 with a change and then on to the Catlins Coaster bus that would get into our next major city Dunedin at 7.30pm.As with all the buses though the time flies by. It's a combination of awesome scenery wild life and the ramblings of the bus driver. Who in the most case was an ex mental

One thing that I really wanted to try but would never have had the time to do had we gone on to Invercargill was to do the canyoning. This was a great activity while Toby did the big Ben Nevis bungee yeah the BIG one. I went off on my own to do the canyoning. We were taken by bus up out of Queenstown to
