It's hard to believe that I'll be home soon. In just two weeks I'm done with classes, then I have a week of finals and on the 20th I'm on a plane on my way back home. I'm excited to see everyone, but at the same time I've really enjoyed my stay here and it's going to be hard to say goodbye! It was wonderful having Dad here for the week of Thanksgiving. I picked him up on Monday from there airport following a series of disasters... he'd lost his phone, he emailed me from London. I emailed back- I hope we find eachother!! Then of course the RER was on strike (no big surprise there, it's kind of a given in Paris that SOMEBODY's got to be on strike for something or other...) and I ... read more

I took a weekend trip to Amsterdam with some friends and we were lucky enough to stumble upon a Christmas parade! Here are some pictures from the trip. The one of the parrot was taken at a restaurant in the train station- Elizabeth told me it's a pretty fancy restaurant and pretty famous, but I forget the name!... read more

Hi everyone! Mom and I have been here for four days now and I thought I should post our adventures thus far. We picked her up from the airport on Sunday, and even though her flight arrived an hour early she didn't come out of the terminal for another hour! There was a problem with the number of suitcases on her plane not matching the number of passengers so it was a security risk... apparently a lot of other planes had the same problem. It was just a mess. She ended up sitting on the runway for an hour while they sorted it all out! But now she's finally here and we've been having a blast. Sunday afternoon we went for a walk to a nearby playground with the girls (and also to walk off the ... read more

Hi Everyone! I just got back last night from the most amazing trip- our group went to the South of France this weekend. It was absolutely beautiful. We hopped off the train and onto our bus which took us up a mountainside road that looked down on the ocean. The first pictures I took were from the bus window. We were all so funny, crawling over eachother to get the best shots, trying to take the picture before the next tree came into our lense's view! The bus took us to a church called Bonne Merethat sits at the highest point of the city and served as a sort of lighthouse in the past. There something very bizarre happened- I ran into a girl I'd met from Elizabeth's school group! She was there in Marseille for ... read more

Hi Everyone! This weekend Elizabeth and I took a day trip to meet Gerti and her family. It was just wonderful! Gerti picked us up at the train station and Anika and Katia were there to meet us. Anika was very shy, but her little sister warmed up right away. They were both very cute and very sweet and so well-behaved! We had lunch at Gerti's (delicious!) and afterwards went for a walk in the Versailles gardens. We didn't plan on this, but Saturday there was a sort of special occasion at the gardens- all of the fountains were on (usually they aren't) and also Baroque music was playing throughout the grounds. The weather, which was supposed to have been horrible, was completely beautiful. I took some pictures to give ya'll an idea of how AMAZINGLY ... read more

This weekend was my class trip to Normandie (that's the French spelling) and it was SO much fun. Of course it was overwhelming and the memorials were really very sad and the cemeteries were sadder but the beach was beautiful and we visited an apple orchard where they made cider and the food was some of the best seafood I've ever had, so really it was a great trip. Friday I met my classmates at 8:50 at the Saint-Lazare Train station. It was crazy. There were people EVERYWHERE and everyone was in a very big hurry and very unhappy about it. I think I was nearly trampled a half a dozen times. And on the metro on the way over the people glared at me and judged me for bringing such a large suitcase- but I ... read more

Had a picnic yesterday at the Eiffel Tower and it was a lot of fun! We brought a couple of baguettes, some cheese, some wine, and some hummus for a friend who's lactose intolerant, but we all definitely dug into that, too. The day was gorgeous, at least until later, then it got a little cold and while I napped I think it rained. It rains all the time here, but so far it's usually cleared up nicely. Today was gorgeous, too. I went and visit the Arc de Triomphe and took lots of pictures to make sure I could check that off of my "touristy things to do" list. Afterwards I took the Metro to the Jardin de Touillerie and had chinese food in the garden in front of the Louvre- delicious. Then I read ... read more

I have all four of my classes on Thursdays, nearly back-to-back. I have two forty-five minute breaks during which I have to travel twenty minutes to and from my art professor's loft, which is converted into a studio for our classes. Today we drew dried poppies. I'm not even sure if it's legal to have dried poppies in the States. Someone once told me they were illegal. Anyway I drew one. I drew one for three hours, in dozens of different positions, with similarly terrible results. He told me he wanted for me to develop more of the plane. "What's a plane?" I asked. "Ah..." he replied. I am hopeless. But I had fun anyway. He made some very good, strong coffee and that was nice and the loft was nice and it was nice to ... read more

This was my first week of classes and I'm SO excited about them. I'm taking an English class that focuses on expatriate writers living in Paris after WWI. It's cool because, well, I'm kind of an expat at the moment! And I'm also taking a beginning drawing class. It's going to be amazing. The teacher says we're going to make sketches at the Louvre next week- The LOUVRE! I'll be one of those kids with the gargantuan sketch pads holding my little pencil and eraser, replicating the works of the masters- terribly! We worked on a sketch of a basket full of newspapers today. Mine looked more like a basket full of lines slanted at different angles when I was done with it, but some other people's were really good. He told me my work was ... read more
