This is the end of the trek and what a month this been 12 different places,1. Panahache 2.Antigua 3.Copan 4.Roatan 5.Managua 6.Granada 7.Island of Ometepel 8.Leon 9.back to managua 10. Antigua 11. Guat. City, with this has been a total of 12 hotels, 4 planes including small prop, 8 buses,including the chicken variety, 3 boat including banana boat . And the people have been great, everyone i have met from locals to other trekkers have been a blast. So now its time to kick back and relax and do a little shopping. well finally left nica and another day of travel, flight from nica to guat city then bus to antigua. will relax in antigua for a couple of days before departing for home. do not anticipate anything to exciting just a little shopping and relaxing it is alot cooler in guat. nica was 80-90 and very humid it is 70s here and dry.... read more

Finally made it off the island of omepetel and just arrived in managua on the way to guat to catch my flight on thur. am, the island was great very primative with some development for tourist, stayed in a small hotel on the beach called santo domingo nice place again no hot water, on the first day we thought we would enjoy a nice hike to a waterfall on one of the volcanos will it turned out to be more than a leisurely stroll this was serious hike up,up 3 km, and small path and at times no path,not sure wether i was going to make it but i did and the falls were coooool. on arrival to the hotel needless to say since we packed no lunch the crew was a bit on the hungry ... read more

hey, i am alive and well,left granada in a rush.took a 3 hour boat ride to the island of ometepel its a island on the lake nicaragua formed by two volcanos and very primative.on the ferry met a few interesting people,the funniest was a local guy who was trying to set tourist up for hotels and cab fares,so he kept asking me to translate for him with all the english non spanish speaking tourist so i got to meet a lot of people and told him i would send him my bill,any a group got on the same bus to santo domingo beach and hotel so all have had a blast 3 canadians 2 spaniards 1 brit 1 costa rian and myself,will fill in more details when sober................ read more

well i got to my hotel in granada a great litte place of the beaten path but next to the lake, unpacked a little had a couple fo beers and of to see the town, a lot of tourist in the main plaza but it is a interesting litttle place...i found a travel agency with local tours and they talked me into a nocturnal volcano tour. what a trip????? we met at 4pm,jumped into the bus and off to the volcan at mayasa park,when we got there it seemed fairly harmless, our first trek was up to a lookout point theey said only 150 steps up i doubt that!!!! when got to the peak it had its own climate windy cool and wet so we stood there for 15 minutes listening to the guide....nexted we had ... read more

finally made it, after a 2 hr chicken bus ride and not even the express, was a riot had to pick it up at the city market,and it was busy, and as we were pulling out people jumping on and off selling food,drink and some funky trinkets. got to the town and found my hotel and of course off the beaten path, off the lake with a great view,the rooms are simple and clean.dropped off my luguage and had a couple of beers and off i was hicking thru town.booked a tour tonite to some volcano from 4pm-8pm see how it goes,for right now taking one day at a time,see what i see.......the town looks like antigua old spanish not as well kept,but a lot of charm a large plaza very colonial spanish that is,see how ... read more

first i may, need spell check,after taking the bus from copan to el cieba instead of stopping at a bus stop it was a parking lot,and i had not made plans to either stay in cieba or head into roatan, then all of a sudden a swarm of cabbies grabbing bags and asking where you want to go, totally confusing......then a couple asked if wanted to share a cab ride, asked where they were headed they said roatan asked have they any hotels picked out they said they an idea, so i said ok, we took the cab to the ferry and again had to wait almost 2 hours for the ride to the island of roatan, grabbed a cab and drove looking for a hotel, got lucky and found the arco iris. after that just ... read more

greetings,just made it to managua nicaragua,got stuck in guat city for a day changing travel plans,not much happening there. to the airport this am and the strangest thing, this older couple from calif. i met 2 weeks ago in guat on the bus to honduras i saw today they were on there way back home,it was like seeing old friends. roatan was great, did not do much but hanging out with jc and ariel it was great,the company and drink was memorable, thats the problem when you a great experience in the middle of the trek, plans will be to make it granada on lake nicaragua,the only fresh water lake with sharks.....in the world...it should be cool with volcanos and all,... read more
