And by that of course I mean Stockholm's airport. If I look really hard through the steel lined windows, I can see trees. They look pretty. This could be a cool country, who am I to judge? I haven't been through passport control. I have a two hour lay over before my flight St. Leninsburg, and it turns out, if you're willing to pay enough, go on a never ending search for the @ and ', the world of the internet can be yours too at the Stockholm airport. Now let's be serious. We all know I have nothing to say. [View Full Entry]

Hey all, While many of you may not be paying attention right now, I just wanted to give you something to read for the next two weeks. I'll officially start writing again once I leave for Russia, but I've given a lot of people this address, and as much fun as India is to read about I thought a place holder would do too. Preparation entries aren't really my style, plus there isn't a whole lot to detail. Enjoy the last bright days of August and we'll talk soon. Soon to be... From Russia With Love [View Full Entry]

Though when I get home, I'm going to upload pictures and edit the entries so that they all have pictures too. Now won't that be nice.... We're in Mumbai now, having skipped Udaipur. I'm kinda sad that it did work out, because it would have been really cool to see the lake palace, but since the rain really didn't permit, this probably worked out for the best. Tomorrow I leave beastly early in the morning so we spent yesterday and today walking around Colaba (the main touristy neighborhood in Mumbai) doing last minute shopping, etc. I haven't decided what to spend [View Full Entry]

Because the last time I got to the internet was the first time in a long while, I forgot to mention a lot of things, most of them having to do with bugs. First off, it's India, there are mosquitos. They itch. Aly needs to stop scratching her mosquito bites. I hope I don't get malaria, but this is one of those things you just have to deal with when the time comes. While in Jaisalmer, we had to deal with lots and lots of flies. These flies comes in hordes like no other, while you're eating, standing in a shop, [View Full Entry]

City Palace Door

Which is sad, because I actually thought it was a really pretty city, and if things had worked out differently concerning weather, I probably would have enjoyed my time there much more. Things as they are, I like it a lot more in retrospect now that I'm out of the city. Our second day in Jaisalmer we went to see a haveli, and shopping. There's a lot of good jewelry and and it was fun until it started to rain. There were torrential rains. At the beginning of the rain we wanted to keep going and not waste a day sitting [View Full Entry]

Hawa Mahal

From the non-street side.
So after so really long train rides that I thought were going to be worse than they really were, but just involved my boredom and lots of sleeping, we are now in Jaisalmer. The trains are actually not bad, I'm just glad to be off of them after so long. We had a twelve hour lay-over of sorts in Jaipur (which we're actually going back to in a couple of days) and did some shopping and saw the Hawa Mahal. The Hawa Mahal is right in the center of the city and functioned as a sort of women's palace where women [View Full Entry]

Morning Prayers
Morning Prayers
From the sunrise boat tour.
We went on a early morning boat ride to see Varnasi at sunrise. It was actually nice (except for waking up really early) and the extraordinary dirtiness of the river. I got some nice pictures of the ghats of some people doing morning prayers. The river on the other hand was a whole new level of dirty. You couldn't see through it even an inch. There was garbage, I know they throw bodies in there as a holy rite, and there were a couple of dead buffalo floating by as well. Some of the people we passed were not only bathing [View Full Entry]

Yes, that is the Ganges.
It's actually been a boring day, India-standards. On the way home from the internet cafe last night, there was a cobra in the street, so we had to stop and wait for it to duck into a hole in the ground so that we could pass. There was a huge crowd following it, and while I didn't actually see the thing because it was dark, that's the kind of thing you don't mess with. Today we went shopping in the morning and went in search for the Bread of Life Bakery, a bakery Aly had read about in Lonely Planet, except [View Full Entry]

The Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal
Now that's what I call a money shot.
I left off last in Amritsar, which is small, annoyingly hard to type, and dirty. There's not much to see there besides the Golden Temple, and despite the fact that it's the capital of Punjab, and the type of Indian clothing we're looking for is sometimes called the Punjab suit, we couldn't actually find it anywhere in Punjab, just sarees. We did however, manage to get fantastically dirty on our way to the train station, partially because of Aly's desire to take a bicycle rickshaw there, and you thought she hated them. We got back to Delhi late at night and [View Full Entry]

Not all that much has happened since I last updated. Aly got hit by a rickshaw. Don't worry. She's fine. She's got a nice bruise on her leg, and she now hates all bicycle rickshaws, but that probably would have been wise even if she hadn't have been hit. She got hit walking on the side of the road. Of course there aren't any sidewalks. We're also kinda sick. Not really sick, like the runs sick, but our stomaches hurt, and it could mold into something. I'm not too worried, we're playing it safe, drinking lots of water. It's also very [View Full Entry]
