The Argentian born Sicilian sitting next to me just said something about that, so I thought that'd be a fun title for today. So I left off in Prague. The 2nd, we went to Prague Castle and wandered around, despite that fact that it was absolutely freezing. The first thing we saw was the Lobowitz musuem which is a musuem about the Lobowitz family. They were a family of princes in Prague for about 6 centuries and incredibly rich and powerful. Their musuem was interesting, just because they had Beethoven's original manuscripts for his 4th and 5th symphonies because one of the princes was Beethoven's patron. Other than that, it was basically just a family history musuem. The rest of the Prague Castle was an effort of the Czech to prove how old Prague is. We ... read more

In their guide to Prague they refer to "lunacy" and festivities in Prague's Old Town square (not it's real name, but there's no way I can type the Czech) on New Year's Eve, and everyone had told use the Prague was an awesome place to spend New Years, and now I feel like lunacy was so the right word. It turns out that fireworks and firecrackers are not only legal here; they are sold with reckless abandon, so in the tiny windy streets of Prague teenage idiots from every country that has the money to get to Prague for New Years were setting off anything that just needed a lighter. We almost got singed a couple times, but it was more important to dodge the firecrackers because the noise was worse than anything echoing off the ... read more

Cause I bet I've been in more. Now equipped with a ghetto-fabulous, have-more-pages-added passport, the real travel has begun. But I left off in Belgium, so I'll work my way back. The night of the second day in Belgium was interesting, to say the least. We went to a Congolese restaurant out on one of the metro lines on Brussels. It took a little while to find, because for all it's benefits, lonely planet does not give good directions. When we finally found the street with all the restaurants on it, we picked one that looked as inviting as possible, and sat down. The only problem with this plan was that we don't speak whatever language was predominately spoken (I don't know what language is spoken in the Congo), and my passable French only got us ... read more

I've had a very long day, without any real reason too. And we actually only had the waffle portion of the title. I did, by the way, manage to get on a train yesterday with relative easy to come to Brussels to meet Kira, through the first train I wanted to catch wasn't running because the train in front of it broke, so I just caught the next one. It's about 3 hours by train from Amsterdam to Brussels and I used my hour in the train station to buy some much needed shampoo that was confiscated by the Russian airport authorities. Kira got to Brussels late last night because her bus from London was three hours late , but we still went out and wandered around St. Katherine's square and got some tapas. We're staying ... read more

I realize it's pointless to ask the question when I'm telling you in the blog post, but since I'm going to be hitting so many cities in the next four weeks, I thought a Carmen Sandiego theme might be fun. Any objections? Good! I love you guys can't respond to say no.... On that note as well, according to my email inbox, more people read this than just my mother (who I think has actually stopped reading it) and so I apologize for the incoherancy. I've had exams the past week, so life hasn't exactly been ripe for updating a travel blog. So other than exams, I had to deal with moving out of my home stay, saying goodbye to everyone on the program who left, which was sad, and packing for my roundd europe wonder-trip ... read more

So boys and girls, I've been on a bit of a hiatus. Or my computer has. My lovely life-sourse of a computer has been on the fritz lately so when I get on the internet it's been the take care of high priority items like emailing my mom and checking facebook ;). I've got a couple entries that've written, so I'll get them up here back dated soon and everyone'll be nicely caught up before the whirlwind adventure begins. Everyone happy? Good, you better be, cause you don't really have a choice. Everyone around here is getting ready to go home, seeing as the people from this semester leave next week. We have finals next week and everyone is thinking about packing up and going home for the holidays. Actually, one person has already left, but ... read more

This past weekend was a good weekend. It felt very mich like I would expect a winter's weekend to feel like during the time of the Tsars. I went with Maragaret to the Yusopov Palace, which took a little while to get too, because it turns out that there are to Yusopov Palaces in Peter, and the one I saw on my map and started walking to was not the right one. On the up side, the wrong one had a pond that was completely frozen over so I have some kick-ass pictures of us walking/running on ice. If this computer had a usb outlet, you would have them too. Unfortunately, the weather isn't cold enough for long enough for the Neva to freeze so a picture of me on that will just have to wait. ... read more

I'm sitting at a cafe with free wifi with some friends, one of whom is talking to her brother over skype. Her brother is apparently making teradctyl noises (I don't know why), and she just said, "I like the inquistive teradactyl noise." Aside from that, I've had a very chill week, filled with re-adjusting to St. Petersburg. It snowed for the first time on Friday and it's now beautiful and freezing in the city. I've only indulged in a few things of winter preparation. Yesterday I ventured out to the book market, which was interesting, but expensive for a market. I have very little news except that I'm loving the snow; I'm sure that will end long before it melts. I hope you're all doing well. From Russia With Love... read more

Also can I say that I seriously disagree with the Olympic Committee? So my experience in Sochi was greatly tainted by the weather this week, but let's be honest, weather will probably affect the Olympics too. It rained a lot while we were there. We had a couple days of sun, but it wasn't nearly what we were told it was going to be and very disappointing. But I can take you through the week. Monday was the first day of hardcore rain. Leah and I slept late and by the time we had woken up, Andrea was there. Andrea wanted to see the town so we took the marshrutka to Sochi (our hostel was halfway between Adler and Sochi and therefore a pain in the ass) and wandered around for a little bit. We ended ... read more

Yes, I know I'm a day early, but I don't know if I'm going to update tomorrow. So remember Guy Fawkes tomorrow. And since I'm writing from the world of political repression, celebrate dissidents, though let's not kill anyone, ok friends? Ok, happy subjects. I'm in Sochi and it's warm and pretty and I'm wearing flip flops. Basically it's fantastic compared to life in Peter or Moscow. It wasn't quite warm enough to go to the beach today, but hopefully it will get there at some point this week because I'm determined to go back to Peter with a tan. Even if I don't, the little bit extra sun is nice. Getting here was a pain in the ass I must say. It shouldn't have been that big of a problem, but we pushed it took ... read more
