To follow my new rule of not blogging in retrospect, I will not cover these days in great detail. However I will make a wee note on Walking tours. If you have ever been skeptical of walking tours, so was I. But let me convince you of their worth... On my second day in Brisbane I decided to do the walking tour of Brisbane detailed in the 2009 Australia Lonely Planet guidebook. It took me eight hours all up, and that was without spending time at the Queensland Museum or Gallery of Modern Art. Even on a grey and rainy day, it was a great way to see the city. Walking tours allow you to take a back seat and mosey your way through a city. Take your time, talk to people along the way, ... read more

Apologies for the missed days- that is from July 8-11 2012. This was the time I spent in Brisbane. I did write a blog to cover these days, but as I saved it the internet on the hostel computer crashed. Some notes about what I have already learned about blogging: Do it every day you possibly can Avoid blogging in retrospect- you lose the freshness and enthusiasm which blogs are all about Rather than blogging everything, blog small things well Ideally to travel blog, you need an internet device of your own, a decent camera, and a bit of discipline ... read more

Why do we climb mountains? My adventure today was to go check out some of the views around the Glasshouse mountains. I drove from Caloundra using the Steve Irwin Highway to visit Mount Tibrogargan and Mount Beerburrum. I'm not going to go on and on about how beautiful it was- the pictures should speak for themselves. What I will say however is that Mount Beerburrum is worth the slippery-almost vertical- sealed path to the top. What I will do is share my pondering on climbing mountains. The aboriginal people of the area did not climb these mountains. They revered them as places of the Gods and regarded them with awe. I compare this to Moses from the Bible's Old Testament, or Jesus in the New Testament who climbed the mountains as a way of seeking ... read more

After a day of being a lone ranger, this day was one to spend relaxing with my hosts. Mount Tambourine farmers markets After another leisurely breakfast we headed out to the Mount Tambourine farmers Market. The Mount Tambourine markets run on the second Sunday of every month from 8am- 2pm at the showgrounds. With a kaleidoscope of craft stalls, produce, and local wares, the markets are pretty popular. German sausages seem pretty popular too- it was a far reach to find anything else substantial to eat for lunch there! The stall we probably spent the longest at was the Mudgeeraba Spices stall. Here you could buy large jars of spice mix for 'authentic' Indian dishes in a hurry. They also do cooking classes for traditional Indian food of varying sorts at their store in Mudgeeraba. ... read more

Lets get this blog started. This cold little Kiwi-turned-Victorian has just had her first day in Sunny Queensland. It began with a lovely walk up the street I am staying on in the Gold Coast Hinterlands. For those first few moments, you smell the subtropical flora, you hear the birds sing out to each other, you feel the gentle morning sun and the 19 degree climate. Then five minutes later you have gotten used to it all, and you are thinking about what else you might do with the day. Oh, how quickly the human species habituates and takes what it has for for granted. After a leisurely breakfast with my hosts, we turned to the days plans. My host had already been on the case and printed off maps of the two nearest national ... read more

Hullo there, My first blog. My first travel blog. Bear with me while I bumble around on this. I'm not sure whether I will have anything life-enhancing to share, or even if I will find the time to keep this up. But I endeavour to. I hope I will. So here goes. Before I begin I should really tell you a bit about me. I will also tell you what I wont be sharing with you about me. As my profile indicates, I am a 20-something-year-young woman who loves to adventure, travel, and help out with things. I am currently dwelling in a town somewhere in East Victoria, Australia. However I am actually a 'Kiwi'. This is antipodean code for being a New Zealander, so no, I am neither a flightless bird (if you are ... read more
