I'm a British musician and writer, currently living in England.

Southeast Europe

Sep/Oct of 2009 saw the exploration of mainland Greece, the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and the Dalmatia region of Croatia. I may have to retro-blog it...

Eastern Europe

I love Eastern Europe, and have travelled through the region on several occasions covering Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Croatia and Slovenia. My absolute favourite place in Eastern Europe has to be Krakow in Poland. The incredible beauty of the main square never fails to blow me away.

Transylvania is a must visit destination. The mysterious town of Sighisoara (the home town of Vlad The Impaler) takes hold of your soul and refuses to let go.

Other Trips

Other trips have taken me to Cyprus, Turkey, Italy, Switzerland, Norway and Cuba.

Alanya and the Taurus Mountains August/September 2008 This holiday was the antithesis of ‘last minute’. Due to unforeseen circumstances Deb and I had lost out on a trip to Dubai and were forced to seek an alternative. 7 days all-inclusive at the Sun Garden Hotel in Alanya (Gold Trail Holidays) presented itself at a mere £284 and we snapped it up. After a 4hr 30min flight with Onur Air, a £10 Visa charge, and a tedious 3 hour coach transfer, we arrived in Alanya. We were quickly shown to our room (after tucking into some grub), and were satisfied with it; [View Full Entry]

A Weekend In York August 2008 Having visited York earlier in the year, my girlfriend Deb and I decided to spend 2 nights in York in August. York is a historic city at almost 2,000 years old, and is located in North Yorkshire, England. We spent the weekend at the White Horse, which is located just outside the city walls, a stone’s throw from York Minster. The pub offered a superb full English breakfast each morning, which we were sure to take full advantage of! The White Horse was a decent place to stay, but for those interested in the paranormal, [View Full Entry]

7 Days In Gdansk June/July 2008 Back in 2005, myself, Rob Heyes, Michael Hodgson, David Jeffries and John Yates began a tradition; the exploration of European cities. Trips prior to 2008 may be a little too old to retrospectively blog, so I’m going to concentrate on 2008’s trip to Gdansk. Earlier in the year, the 5 of us had decided to do something over summer. As usual, commitments at home prevented the prospect of a lengthy trip and so we scoured skyscanner.com for cheap flights. Gdansk was the absolute cheapest, and having visited Poland 4 times already I th [View Full Entry]

Bucharest Saturday 16th February 2008 So Bucharest was where we decided to call it a day. The absolute cheapest flight we could find was with Wizz Air, Bucharest to Liverpool - £78. The train journey from Brasov to Bucharest was incredible. The views of the Carpathian Mountains have to be seen to be believed. It’s a pity we didn’t have time to get off and hike. Bucharest is a difficult place to appreciate. As far as the city centre goes, we had absolutely no time to explore as we took a taxi straight to the airport. Our initial impression - as [View Full Entry]

Brasov Friday 15th February 2008 This would be our last full day in Transylvania, and our last full day of the trip. Due to unforeseen financial problems we’d been forced to terminate the trip early and had booked a flight back to Liverpool out of Bucharest. We spent the first portion of the day returning and booking into the hotel we’d visited the day before. Yes it was expensive but we wanted to go out on a high! The hotel was centrally located, immaculate and I managed to get a room of my own! Our waistcoat-wearing, excitable host was more than [View Full Entry]

Brasov Thursday 14th February 2008 Valentine’s day in Transylvania, with a hangover, and an incredibly punishing one at that. The kind of hangover that persuaded the 3 of us to miss the early train to Brasov in order to sleep it off. When we eventually arrived at the train station, the sheer amount of people waiting to get onboard the train was ridiculous; we were sure we’d be without a seat. Luckily the train pulled in and the doors opened right before us. In cattle-like fashion we piled onto the train, managing to find 3 bizarrely heated seats on the upper [View Full Entry]

Sighisoara Wednesday 13th February 2008 One week into our adventure and we’d already travelled through Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary and Romania. Our second day in Sighisoara was rather quiet... well some of it. We spent the morning exploring the town, seeking out medieval watchtowers and churches. Rob and I posed for a photograph outside Vlad’s house and visited an underground internet café, whilst John caught up on some much needed sleep. For tea, we ate in the Casa Vlad Dracul Restaurant, conveniently located within Vlad the Impaler’s house. I had [View Full Entry]

Sighisoara Tuesday 12th February 2008 Ecstatic we were as the night train pulled into Budapest Keleti station, ready and willing to take us to Romania. The 3-birth sleeper carriage was fantastic; we were like children, excitably claiming our bunks. Unbelievably we managed to sleep through the entire journey, bar the odd interruption from passport control as we crossed the border. Transylvania greeted us at 8am with mist, smoky chimneys, and the distant spires of Sighisoara. Stepping from the train the cool and fresh air gave us a tremendous welcome. We made our way from th [View Full Entry]

Budapest Monday 11th February 2008 The whole Budapest experience was less than memorable. Firstly, the 7-hour train journey was unappreciated due to my need for a drink. Why didn’t I buy a bottle of water beforehand? Thank god for the snack lady... Upon arrival at Budapest Keleti train station, we had to find storage for our backpacks and book our overnight sleeper train tickets to Romania. Both of these tasks proved difficult. Eventually we discovered the baggage storage room at Keleti train station, which to be honest looked a little bit dodgy on initial inspection [View Full Entry]

Zagreb Sunday 10th February 2008 We left Ljubljana in the early hours in order to arrive in Zagreb early(ish). The train ride was interesting after a rather worrying encounter with passport control… We arrived in the capital of Croatia around lunchtime. We spent our first few hours searching for a hostel. In the end we had to settle on a budget hotel after several failed attempts to tap into unsecure wireless internet connections. Lunch was served courtesy of McDonalds and I was sure to spill a full cup of coke all over the floor, much to the amusement of the staff& [View Full Entry]
