this story beings in a tour group office in saigon! after an amazing week with jazz i left her on the bus heading to the mekong delta for a relaxing two day cruise. the bus took three hours to get to a floating market...this floating market finished at 9am...our bus left at 8...hmm!! so after a bit of disappointment, we found ourselves being hounded into tourist activities such as shopping and tasting local food. this was nice but a bit over the top. anyway, i was the only person doing a two day tour, others were doing three or one day. the tour guide i forgot to mention didnt speak much english and sounded like a phnematic drill whenever he opened his mouth. when he tried to speak to 5 people it was like he was ... read more

Saigon is fantastic!!! it's so beautiful and so crazy!! i've never had so much coffee and sun...we went to beach yesterday and got so sunburnt!! we felt so sorry for ourselves that we ended up getting our hair washed and massaged!! Jazz is still suffering from the panda effect and my leg is so painful and has that horrible dull ache!! :) but it doesn't detract from this awesome city! i experienced the saigon nightlife on thursday night; the teachers at ILA are so fun to hang out with. they are teaching me lots in preparation for cambodia. i was allowed to watch an adults class yesterday and after my crazzy pilgrims experience, it was interesting to see the lesson slowed down. i also found out how small the world really is; one of jazz's friends ... read more

I'm sat at an internet cafe in siem reap, slurping my well deserved fruit shake and punching hard of the broken keyboard like a typewriter (excuse any spelling mistakes!) the temples of angkor are amazing and cambodians are so friendly, i'm nervous about teaching but so excited about living here for three months. Today I went to visit some oof the temples away from the angkor complex. I hired a bike and managed to navigate the bustling traffic on the highway number 6! a great experience, but i looked awesome in my surgeical mask to keep out the fumes!!! cycling has been a great way of seeing the areas in laos and siem reap; i haven't fallen off yet, but i did have to push my bike for 3km after getting a puncture on my way ... read more

After an amazing trip through laos, i've made it to siem reap in cambodia! i'm spending 5days here to see the city and go to the ankor wat temples. i'm so excited, but actually shattered! it's so hot here in asia!! what should have been a very boring day in Pakse (southern laos) turned out to be really fun! i met an austrialian who showed me the life of sitting, drinking and eating! I went the wat pho festival in champassak and it was such a traumatic experience even getting there! after my overnight bus i got loaded on to a crowded tuk tuk and whisked to my extremely overpriced guesthouse (after going down many winding and dusty lanes!!) i hired a bike on my second day and burned my hands forgetting that they would exposed ... read more

last night i read in the laos paper that there was a festival at the temple i was goign to visit from the 7th to the 9th! so after a mild panic i finally found somewhere to stay in the tiny village! i have met so many wonderful people on my travels, everyone has been lovely! except today i felt a bit lonely. because i spent so much money on accommodation during this damn festival, it ahs left me a little bit broke! so everything today had to be cheap! i feel like i've wasted the day, there's only so much sight seeing one can do!! yesterday i hired a bike and even though it is a big capital, most of the major/interesting things to see can easily be done in a day! it's weird having ... read more

what a way to welcome in the new chinese year!! we were just walking up to a restaurant for dinner and found a hive of activity in chinatown!! after we finished our dinner we headed back to this site of activity and found ourselves amongst the locals enjoying a lion dance and caught a glimpse of the penang chief minister!! it was amazing watching two men in a lion costume jump from different podiums within the street!! our day was a bit random, we drove (and got lost so many times in penang and georgetown) around the island. we swam in the sea and had the local speciality on the sands!! it was phenomenal!!! we had tea in the street where the local policemen were hanging out, and it was perfect indian tea, so sweet and ... read more

So lets start with yesterday!! I dragged my dad on a full day tour of the cameron highlands! there is heaven on earth...its called the tea plantations in malaysia!! they were beautiful!! after drinking copious amounts and then seeing how it was made we went to a butterfly farm...where i was subjected to the honour of holding a scorpian!! after realising i wasn't dead we continued to the jungle!!! for three hours we endured the hot and humid weather to reach a distant flower which the local aborigines had searched for! it was beautiful. everyone was so friendly and i played with the local village children while dad played with the blow darts!! after the fourth attempt he hit the target!! :) today we had an eventful mission from cameron highlands to penang. the sat nav ... read more

Kuala Lumpur is so different to Singapore! the people, the smells, the cleanliness!! Both are so beautiful in their own way!! The smell of the street markets and sweat rushing through the congested KL traffic has made me fall in love with this country!! it's nice to not be surrounded by so many western influences! We explored the entire city (mostly on foot...that would be my influence, not my dad's) and after getting lost a few times, we saw pretty much every sight possible :) the national monument paid an important part for my dad as it depicted the Birtish and Malaysian army winning the indepenece of malaysia from the communists. it was very moving (especially after my dissertation!!). the national mosque was fantastic, we looked like purple jedis in our cover up robes! i'll post ... read more
