Happy New Year!! Cannot believe we are now in 2008, feels like just yesterday I packed up my life into a backpack and headed off to London!! So much has happened and changed since then, BIZARRE!! As most of you know, and some of you don't - I have decided to end the London adventure (for now anyway!) and head back to the hopefully sunnier shores of Australia. In other words, I'm making like a convict and shipping OUT! As you can imagine, really NOT an easy decision to make, as I've had an absolute ball here for the last 3 years or so, but it was time and I always wanted to leave London on a high note and not after the rain and bad weather had changed me forever ;-) In ode to this, ... read more
Hi y'all! Well for my last trip of 2007 - I went in the complete opposite direction than usual and headed off to New York for 5 days over the American Thanksgiving long weekend! It's hard to even put into the pictures how beautiful and surreal it was being in the Big Apple - - it's literally like walking through a movie all the time! I've not felt such a 'tourist' for ages!! In my nearly 3 years of being in the UK, I've done all my trips independently and never with an organised tour group - - and this is for no other reason really than that I am just usually way too selfish to follow someone elses plans, and like ending up just wherever! However, for this trip, because there is so much to ... read more
G'day! Well you're probably a bit puzzled by the title of this blog entry - but fear not, I was not in a drug induced haze while visiting Thailand - well I sort of was, but it was only the over the counter variety :-( Picked up a bad tummy bug towards the end and had to make good friends with the local pharmacist who kept giving me packets of Buscopan telling me my stomach would come good 'soon soon'! 'Soon soon' turned out to be 3 days - very not cool when you want to enjoy Thailand, let me assure you! However, before that bad few days - Thailand trip was amazing!!! A more beautiful country I have not seen yet - as well as having the most friendly people I've come across in all ... read more
Well the time is nearly here to say good-bye to Liberty - - who's been over visiting for the last six weeks....though where on EARTH that time has gone, I just don't know :-( In that time, she's managed to see shed loads of countries - a couple with me and the rest on her tour (for those of you who know her, I'll let her fill you in on her stories!) and in turn, I've caught up on loads of the day in day out gossip and talk that I miss out on living in Oz fulltime! We managed to get to a dodgy (or trendy, depending on how you look at it!) nightclub in East London, a posh rooftop garden party in Central London, a curry in Brick Lane, a look at the changing ... read more
After what felt like ALL day on and off trains, buses, shuttles and our hire car - - we finally made it to Barcelona at 9pm!! We had MEANT To be make it for 5 or 6pm, but a very unhelpful git at the trainstation in Toulouse told us we could not go to Barcelona today and would have to wait overnight! Not enthused with this prospect, Lib and I decided to 'wing it' on a few other trains and find a way to Barcelona ourselves - - we were that determined to make it there for that night!! Nothing was going to stop us! We soon realised after we changed trains at the France/Spain border - just how DIFFERENT the two country's transport systems are! I was half expecting to see people hanging off the ... read more
Well as many of you know - - the beginning of August spelt the arrival of my beloved Lib from Oz!! Lucky for me, my work was really understanding of the short notice and so a day after Lib touched down @ Heathrow, we were back on a plane, winging our way to Nice - the capital of the French Riviera and the beginning point of our roadtrip that would eventually end us up in Barcelona, Spain. The day we left London was sunny and warm - just exactly how I'd described English summers to Lib (we won't mention the previous two days that were cold and rainy!!). We got on our plane and after a couple of relaxing vinos, we touched down in Nice! We were (well I was) stoked to see and feel the ... read more
Well it's only taken a year, but I finally made it back to Scotland!! Mima's Mum arrived from Oz a few weeks ago & after the girls had tripped through Paris, Vienna and Rome, it was then onto Scotland for a wee roadtrip and a proper look round the country I fell in love with just on a year ago!! The trip began rather stress free (for once) although there was a minor panic on the morning of departure, when I realised that my 'safe place' for my passport was maybe a little bit TOO safe! Luckily, being the seasoned traveller I am now, I did not panic or have a spaz out :-) Passport found, backpack suitably packed to the brim and we set off! Arriving in Glasgow, we were met by Em and ... read more
G'day g'day!!! Sorry I've been so majorly slack with the updates - - had misplaced my camera in the move just after Christmas so have been heaps bad with taking photos etc etc. Not that many of them would be UN alcohol related, but still! I know how many of you just like to skim over the pics and skip all my well thought out and witty prose (mmm, ok, maybe not!). As you are all (some more painfully than others) aware, I was home in sunny BrisVegas (and momentarily in Emerald) over the Christmas & New Years break - - seeing my family and friends for the first time in nearly 2 years! I cannot believe how time has flown - - next month it will offically have been 2 years & so much ... read more
Well the lovely trip I'd been counting down for MONTHS is over already!! I'm happy to be back in London (er, except for the fact the weather here SUX!) but it was still very emotional to leave my family! It was unbelievable to see everyone again, just gutted that I forgot my camera & so I have missed lots of Emerald photos! If any Emeraldites are reading this, I'd really really appreciate any pictures anyone has!! So far I've got no big plans sorted out for 2007 - - though I am hoping to see some more of Europe during the lovely summertime!! I'm probably in the process of moving this month so will keep you all updated on my new address etc in case anyone is thinking of visiting!! :-) Love to hear all your ... read more
G'day!! I know I've been hell slack in my updates on here of late - - so much to do and get organised , I've barely had time to scratch myself! It's now only 3 days til I fly out of London, should be a long and very interesting trip - my end of year work celebrations are on Friday (and I fly out Saturday) and they start at 11am and will continue long into the night. I have a feeling I'm going to be looking more like shit than shit hot when I get off that plane at the other end! Stupid bloody Thai Airways could only get me on a flight with a 7 hour (yes 7 long hours) stopover in Bangkok. I was hoping for at least a couple of days, could have ... read more
