Volunteer with us in Kenya!! FOR FREE!!

Dear Travellers,

My name is Francisco and i am part of a community centre for volunteers which is located in Western province of Kenya. We are engaged in a few different projects, though our main focus at the moment is a reading program in some of the local schools. Anyone wishing to volunteer and participate is welcome.

There are no fees you need to pay to participate, and we provide free shared accomodation and meals to all volunteers. Those who are able are welcome to contribute something towards the costs of food, etc., but there is no pressure to do so.

We are a mixture of International and Kenyan volunteers. Our community centre is fairly comfortable, having running cold water (rain water), solar power, a big communal kitchen, a communal hall and chill out area.

Apart from the reading program at the schools we sometimes also organize a running club for local kids and have regular visits to an orphanage in Kakamega. Anyone interested in more information can email me at franandkim @ gmail.com (without the spaces in the address).

Safari Njema! Sincerely, Fran.

We had a wonderful month this August with a number of international and local volunteers participating in our projects. The international volunteers were particularly inspired to volunteer for free with us, and we made many good friends. We held computer classes for teenage orphans, basic English classes for kids who were struggling with their reading, organized and painted a mural with 50 school kids on the topics of Honesty, Simple Living, Community, Peace and Equality, and held an Alternatives to Violence workshop. We are very thankful to all the volunteers who participated and no doub [View Full Entry]

We have had several people contact us to ask us about our volunteer centre and what is happening this August, so this is a post to inform you about it. This is particularly relevant to people looking for a place to volunteer at for free or who do not want to be restricted by how long (or short) a time you want to volunteer for. The short story is that some friends of mine and I have started a volunteer centre in Western Kenya, not far from Kakamega forest. We provide free shared accomodation and meals to anyone who volunteers with [View Full Entry]
