English After four months and a half we have finally got back home! We arrived at Venice airport safe, tanned, and thin (-5 kg Alvise, -2 kg Chiara). It was really strange to be back at Venice airport and listening to people speaking italian rather than spanish. Many feelings and thoughts are occupying our minds. We think we had a fantastic trip and met really interesting people, but actually we are happy to be at home after all this time. Of course, as soon as we arrived in Italy our first priority was guess what? Food!... anyway, before getting fat again, let’s update the blog about our last stop: Cuba. 'Vamos bien!' These are the first words we read on an advertisement, as soon as we arrived in Cuba, while going by taxi from the airport ... read more

English Finally, after almost 4 months we have reached the final destination of our trip in South America: Cuzco (in Quechua: the navel of the world) and the Machu Picchu (in Quechua: the old mountain). Yes, our return is getting closer... in less than a month we will fly back to Italy. Be prepared to several tough eating and drinking welcome-back celebrations in Venice (first) and then in Zurich. It is also the time for an important announcement: sadly, this will probably be the last entry of our blog. On the 2nd of May we fly to Cuba, where we will try to get as tanned as possible before we come back. Internet connections over there are pratically non-existent (at least, for our budget)... so do not expect news from us before the 22nd of May, ... read more

English La Paz Our visit in Brasil was really a relaxing break before going back to the less confortable country of Bolivia. We enjoyed a lot the beaches, the atmosphere and the people in Brasil, but we had to go on with our trip. Actually, we were really looking forward to the tough life on the Andes at 4000 meters of altitude... we missed Bolivia. From Salvador Bahia we decided to catch the plane to Sao Paolo instead of going through a bus trip of 33 hours... actually the plane ticket turned out to be even cheaper, so why not? The plane, in reality, was so cheap for some reason: departure from Salvador at 3.00 a.m. and arrival at Sao Paolo at 6.00 a.m. In Sao Paolo of course we stopped again at Toninelli's place, we ... read more

English Trancoso There are places where, once you set your foot on, you feel like somebody has cast a spell on you. It has happened to us in Trancoso. It might have been the contrast with the hectic Rio, it might be due to the particular moment and the particular way we were feeling while we were there, it might be that if we come back we will not feel the same magic, but, somehow, in that place everything looked perfect. Far away from the civilization, back to the time where the rithm in the human lives was given by the light of the sun... it is incredible to think that only 18 hours by bus, a small boat ride and another hour by bus were enough to reach Trancoso from Rio. Usually paradise is said ... read more

English With “only” six hours of bus we could reach from São Paolo one of the best attraction we were dreaming of during our trip. However, it took us two days to leave the comfortable Toninelli’s house and the Parmigiano… Rio is called the cidade meravilhosa by the Brazilians for some more than justified reasons. In this city nature and civilization combine together in a dramatic and harmonious setting. Rio is made of contrasts: astonishing beaches and mountains of unusual shape, tropical forests and horrible concrete buildings, luxurious neighborhoods and favelas, peace and caos, happiness, music and violence. It is difficult remain indifferent to such an disordered and amazing scenario. In Rio we chose one of the best neighborhoods to stay: Ipanema, famous for the beaches and the song “The girl of Ipanema”. In comparison to ... read more

English Flight Gol Santa Cruz - Campo Grande. Departure time 01:40 am!! Connection flight Campo Grande - Sao Paolo at 04:40 am... ok, it was cheap but surely not the most stilish way to enter Brazil. Anyway, at 06:40 am two zombies carrying italian passports got off of the plane and set foot on the brazilian soil (actually, Campo Grande is already in Brazil but at 4 am we were not completely concious... we still wonder how we got into the second plane). In this precarious state we had to tackle one of the most impressive metropolitan jungle, where huge skyscrapers and shanty favelas live close to each other, witnessing the ambiguities of the brazilian society. Our last days in Bolivia were not exactly relaxing (over there we started dreaming, for the first time in our ... read more

From the last time we have showed you the most amazing part of Bolivia, the Salar de Uyuni, lagunas, all landscapes that we have visited with a jeep tour from Tupiza. Now we are still in Bolivia, we have seen some cities, Potosi, Sucre (with the market of Tarrabuco) and arrived to Santa Cruz. This last one is not really a great place, near the jungle and with a very humid climate, but the reason to be here is to catch a flight to Brasil. Bolivia is very beautiful, but not so easy to travel. We will talk here about the other side of Bolivia... When we arrived in Uyuni from the tour we decided to rest for a day because sitting in a jeep for 4 days in a row at this altitude and with ... read more

English We have noticed that the number of comments and visits to this blog is decreasing. Hence, this time we have decided to amaze you with the best landscapes and probably the pictures of our trip. The southwest part of Bolivia is simply out of this world. Last time we wrote we were in Tupiza waiting for somebody to join us for the famous 4 days jeep tour to the Salar de Uyuni. We had to wait two days... but at the end we found two amazing fellows, Seraphin and Antonella. Probably the most original guys we have met so far. Two mystical germans, the first ones who put forward an alternative way of travelling independently. Instead of relying on the Lonely Planet (or on similar guides), their trip was based on a different book: the ... read more

English We are now in Bolivia! We arrived here by crossing the border with Argentina from La Quiaca. Visiting La Quiaca, the northest part of Argentina, is one of the cool (or maybe silly?) things that one could do together with visiting the southern most part of Argentina, Ushuaia (more than 5000 km far south). Argentinian buses do not dare to cross the border and have problems through the bad gravel roads of Bolivia, so they left us before the border just to say 'And now on foot!'. So we grabbed our backpacks and started to walk for about one km to cross the border (after having our last argentinan milanesa con papas fritas of course...). It was a bit hard since we were at 3500 meters of altitude and with so much weight you can ... read more

English Our south-American trip is getting into its more difficult part, we have left the easy-going and almost-European Argentina and crossed the border to Bolivia, from where we are writing now. Hence, this blog is meant to be a farewell message to the Argentineans and the Chileans and their wonderful countries. We still have to digest the overwhelming load of experiences we are taking with us after a month and a half. Astonishingly different landscapes have passed in front of our eyes, from the emptiness of Patagonia to the dried altopianos of the north. We have met a multitude of people from everywhere, some really exceptional, some others not. Among the last group, if by chance we find those bastards which stole Chiara's wallet in Mendoza... Getting drunk and stolen in Mendoza After Valparaiso, we left ... read more
