Alright, one final blaaahg here from the Lima airport. I´ve left this for an activity on my list of things to do to help pass the time duirng my 8 hour layover (grumble). Number one on the list was to bat my eyes and beg to get bumped to an earlier flight. Okay I've got a lot of catching up to do, so don't start reading this unless you've got time 'cause it's going to be a long one! Time for another update! I´ve added some more pictures from my weekend which was full of Peruvian cultural immersion. Friday night we had a birthday party for my homestay sister, Rossi. It was pretty wild, lots of friends and family at the house for food and dancing. It kind of felt like everyone came to stare at the gringas, but we made the most of it and had a good time. Don´t have too much time to write today, I´ve spent the last hour trying to figure out how to post my pictures (grumble), so I´ll have to let my pictures do most of the talking. I´ve just come off my weekend at Machu Picchu and words nor photos can begin to capture the essence of that place. Where to begin. . .this week has been an absolute whirlwind and I´ve seen too much to type about, but let´s start with the highlights, eh? Thursday the 4 other students in the program and I went with a guide to check out the ruins of Saqsaywaman (or if your a tourist, pronounced "Sexy Woman"), Q'éngo, and Tambochay. It is believed that these structures which were part of the Incan Empire date back to somewhere around the 13th century. Okay, so if you can´t tell, things are off to a slow start for me here. There´s an internet cafe about 2 blocks from my house, so alas here I am. I started classes at the school today, but that only took up about 4 hours this morning. I had to take a rigorous placement exam to decide which level of Spanish I´m at. Today marks my 3rd day in Peru, I don´t have anything too exciting to report yet. I didn´t have any trouble with traveling, I made all my connections, and didn´t run into any issues at customs. My homestay mom was there at the airport in Cusco to pick me up according to plan. She is wonderful, very energetic and lots of personality! She has an 18 year old daughter who lives with her and a 26 year old son who is a dentist and lives in his own place in the city.
