The Rest Of The Update Hello again from sunny Horsham!! Well I can truly say I'm settled into life in Sussex. I have moved out of Gemma's house and into a two bed flat. I started looking for somewhere to live and it happened to be only five minutes down the road from where I was staying which was a great thing because I love the area I am living in. I looked at a few others but this one just felt right from the moment I stepped in. It is second floor, I have no one above me and there is only one other flat on this floor so it is very peaceful. I am also on the corner of the building and therefore get lots of sun in most of the flat all ... read more

Hello I'm back! Hi everyone! I was going to leave the blog where it is but somehow I felt you all were needing an update. Well it's been nearly six months since my return, where did that time fly? It took me a while to adjust to normality and settle back into being home but I now feel like things have kind of settled down. My first few weeks were spent catching up with everyone, friends, family and a few trips up and down from Kent to Watford. I went back into work which was lovely to see everyone but quite strange to be there. It has been so nice to see everyone and hear what has happened in everyone else's lives over the time I have been away. I still haven't totally caught up ... read more

Beautiful Byron It's a strange feeling having nothing to do for three weeks. I had nowhere to be, no appointments, no need to get up by a particular time, no one to see and it felt odd? Our lives are made up of places to be, things to do, money to make, work to go to, people to see etc etc and when you have not got that it is quite disconcerting. I have had an amazing time on my travels but there has been a structure to it, time frames, some volunteer work, people I've visited, families I've lived with, itineraries to follow, a fitness program to complete and even going to school for a couple of weeks! And so I decided to book into a small apartment for my last three weeks of ... read more

Six days of me me me!!! I've had such an amazing time since I've been away and part of all that enjoyment has included all the things we love that can also be bad for us. I've eaten some wonderful foods, spicy foods and hot foods, I ate a meal of just prawns and bird's eye chillies in Thailand! I've eaten exactly what I've wanted, loved most of it and eaten so, so many carbohydrates. Often I've eaten what I've been given, remember the potatoes in Guatemala?! Of course there has been the odd tipple, tequila nights in Guatemala, a few cocktails and a little wine along the way. As for any kind of exercise regime it's really hard to do anything regular whilst your traveling. I've been active, just not gone out of my ... read more

From West to East Coast, Next Stop Brisbane. I started my week in Brisbane with a visit to Fraser Island. I was picked up from my hotel at 7am and boarded a four wheel drive bus bound for the coast a few hours north of Brisbane where the bus drove onto a small ferry to travel over to Fraser. We drove along the beach and then further into the island to visit Lake Birrabeen which was beautiful. Here we ate lunch and then drove to central station which used to be a small settlement when they used to do a lot of logging on the island. We went for a walk through the forest which was lovely and saw parakeets flying in the forest canopies. The trip was really lovely and I was pleased I ... read more

Ten days across the Nullarbor and much further in mind..... As we set out on the Nullarbor Tour on the morning of 24th December 2008 I felt excited and a little nervous, kind of how you do when setting out on a school trip. We boarded our bus, Jo, Sharon, and myself to start our trip going from Adelaide to Perth with thirteen others in a minibus. Our tour guide, Leith from Adelaide was a really great guy, informative, laid back (well he is Australian) full of life and must of been shattered as he did all the driving as well as keep all of us in order. This can be easier said than done when you have an over excitable Spaniard on board who jumps off the end of a jetty into an ocean ... read more

Adelaide for a few days. Another train ride another state. Adelaide was much smaller than I realised but just as lovely all the same. I spent my first day having lunch with Shani, a friend I met in India. Then I had a walk around the town looking at the many churches Adelaide has and wandered around the Botanical Gardens. This was a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon, sitting having an ice cream and then having a sit down under a shady tree before I set off again to see some more of the town. On Monday Shani and I went on a wine tour. We started with a cheese plater which was lovely, something to line the stomach. We visited four wineries and had a lovely lunch at one of them. I ... read more

A Brief Run Around Melbourne Arriving pretty tired on the overnight train from Sydney (which incidentally I thought was really good value and a great way to get here) I trundled up the road to my next hotel. At this point all I really wanted to do was hop into bed and have a snooze but as I was only here for a couple of days a shower was all it took to get me out on the road and exploring the streets of Melbourne. I walked around some of the more quirky streets first, Smith street and Brunswick and had a spot of lunch. I saw some fantastic architectural buildings and sat for a while in Fitzroy Gardens enjoying the sunshine and the rest. In the park was Cook's Cottage, it was built and ... read more

Sunny Sydney! Well I've had my first week in Sydney, Australia. I spent the first two nights in the city and did some sight seeing generally getting my bearings. I went to the botanical gardens last Wednesday and thoroughly enjoyed the open space and greenery, I was craving that after Hong Kong. The gardens were beautiful and lead down to the harbour, where the iconic sight of the opera house and the infamous bridge await you as you round the corner at the bottom of the gardens. Some friends, Richard and Tina then came and met me on Thursday and I spent the next five days with them a short drive out of Sydney in the suburbs. I had a lovely time with them and they really made me so welcome and showed me lots ... read more

A Week In Hong Kong Well we made it to Hong Kong. After a few hours on a bus, a boat journey to the island of Langkawi and then a flight to Kuala Lumpur we were then in Malaysia. Our flight to Hong Kong wasn't until the following morning and without anywhere to stay, (the room we had booked into was just for transit passengers so we were not allowed to stay there) and the airport hotel being two hundred pounds a night we had no choice but to order a bottle of wine and eat cheese and biscuits in the posh airport lounge. A couple of bottles and four hours later we finally boarded our plane. We got the airport express train from the airport to Hong Kong Island where home was a friend ... read more
