Happy New Year to all our readers, we hope 2015 brings you health, happiness and travel. New Years Day, and time for me and Andy to break camp and start our journey back to Perth. Andy, Karen and Naomi are staying another night and will do their journey in one day, I was happy for us to take a nice and easy trip home so we allowed ourselves a couple of days and a rough idea of what route we wanted to take. So as soon as we were out of bed we started to pack up, we have been here for a while so packing up takes slightly longer than an overnighter. We popped around to Andy and Karen's and ate jaffles for breakfast, then got back to it. We were ready for the off ... read more

Taking your pants to Paradise. 29th December 2014 Sometimes when we blog its just hard to get the right title and we realised a long time ago that it’s all about the title, then there are other times when we are writing and good titles just keep appearing out of the pages, like the other day when we wrote Chicken tracks, I think we ended up with 5 options to choose from. Funny really we had a pretty big day yesterday 29/12/2014 and I woke this morning with a title on my mind, even before I had struck a blow on the computer keys. As you are aware we have been having our Christmas break in Cape Arid National Park, Western Australia, we were invited down here by Andy and Karen, two people who we have ... read more

Boxing Day 26thDecember 2014 (Chicken Tracks) Boxing Day arrived and we awoke to a beautiful morning, if only a little on the windy side. Our plans for the day were to pack some lunch and head out to Israelites Bay, it is a 4 wheel drive track taking us further into the Cape Arid National Park, more remote and so far across Western Australia that it sits just below and beyond Balladonia on the Nullarbor. We left camp at about 10.00am with Andy, Karen and Naomi in their 100 Series and Caroline and I in ours, even though using two vehicles was not the most economical way of travelling we figured if one vehicle became bogged then the other vehicle could tow it out if required. The first 30 k’s were just gravel roads, to the ... read more

24TH & 25THDecember 2014 Caroline was out of bed at 6.30am again, by now I was wondering who this strange and organised woman is in the kitchen and wondered what she had done with my real wife! Yesterday seemed so far away, I really cannot remember what time I got up, nor can I be really be bothered to try to trawl my memory for such meaningless information as we are on holiday. I know our morning started with a cup of tea then Caroline wandered around to our neighbours Andy, Karen and Naomi on camp site 5 to see what was happening, how they slept and what was the plans if any, then came back and said that we should do breakfast for everyone. Fortunately I had taken enough bacon from the freezer the night ... read more

Do Only Bears Eat Honey? 22nd & 23rd December The morning dawned, the birds were singing in abundance, the light was streaming through the window along with the cool breeze, the sun was up. I was awake early again, it seems that my body clock has not altered yet, it will, but of course it will make it harder to get back into work routine once our holiday is over. I finally slid out of bed at 6.30 to put the kettle on, a hand signal from Andy indicated that he too wanted a morning cup of tea. It looked like there was no way he would move from the bed too early this morning, but that was ok, I wanted him to do as little as possible and rest up. He still needs to rest, ... read more

We woke to a fairly decent morning on a campsite in Esperance, at least it wasn’t raining. Even though we don’t like caravan parks, our main goal was to charge all our batteries, that is the two deep cycle batteries that power the freezer in our truck and also the two deep cycle batteries in Roobie as we need plenty of battery power whilst we are camped at Cape Arid. We also needed to top the water tanks up on Roobie, which is 90 litres for showers and general use hot water and 90 litres for drinking. As usual I was up early and strangely enough Caroline put in an early appearance at 6.00 am, our plan today was to get our last few chores done in Esperance and get away as soon as possible as ... read more

I woke up early this morning, my head was pounding, nothing to do with sleeping in the new trailer, we were both dog tired as it had been a busy week getting Roobie prepared for her inaugural journey, ideally we would have preferred to have had a short weekend trip to help shake things down but time was not on our side, so we loaded the best way we could and the shake down will happen, one way or another. Andy had the day off from work as he finished up on Thursday night and dropped me off at a colleagues house at 06.30 in the morning, she was taking me to work early so that I could leave early and thus she could drop me at home so I did not have to worry about ... read more

I have been at home for a couple of days as my blood pressure had been high, so I went to see my GP who said that she wanted me to stay off work and take the readings of my BP morning and night, then go back and see her next week, fortunately they allowed me to rent a blood pressure machine at $10.00 a week We are only a couple of weeks to Christmas and are officially in Australian Summertime and the weather is ramping up towards HOT, HOT HOT!!. Monday (08/12/2014) I had already done most of the shopping for our forth coming trip down to cape Arid, with Andy Bayley & Karen Griffin, I can’t explain just how excited we are about going away for two weeks down in the Esperance region with ... read more

Caroline sent me an e-mail to my work account advising me that one of our friends from the ACT 4wheel drive club had contacted her and said that he was in Perth for the week on business and would like to catch up with us and possibly have some dinner if we were available. Of course we could find time to see someone who had made such an effort to make contact with us and of course it is always great to catch up with our old friends and 4wheel drive buddies. The last time we had journeying friends in Perth was about 12 months ago, when Richard and Elaine Wdowik flew over from Canberra for a holiday, hired a motor home and dropped in to say hi and have a catch up over coffee. It ... read more
