For a change we are not having a weekend out of town, this weekend is about catching up with friends, having some us time and getting out in the dirt which is what we are good at. I went looking for a bike on Saturday, Andy and I have been talking about getting bikes again, so I thought I would do some homework and there is a good bike shop fairly close by, but with lots of bikes on display it is hard to figure out what to get, so a chat with the guy in the shop soon has that narrowed down for me. Saturday night we had a great dinner with our friends Glenn and Natalie and probably a slightly later night than anticipated, as we had an early start on Sunday morning planned. ... read more

Work Week Hustle 22/05/2015 I had a medical appointment at the Royal Perth Hospital on Friday 22nd May, so parked the cruiser at Cockburn train station and went in to Perth on the train. I have lost 14 Kilo’s, my GP had suggested I do so as it was conducive to my ongoing health and had her parting word to me on the 28th of January were I don’t care how you do it, just do it! When I went back to see her on 23rd April I had lost 10 Kilo’s she asked me how I did it and I said through controlled starvation, she said the shedding of 10 Kilo’s was great but I needed to take more exercise, she didn’t really say to much on how I did it, but who cares I ... read more

Simmo's Delicious Dilemma's 17/05/2015 Is it the end of an era I wondered as we sat outside Simmo's drinking coffee and having a cheeky ice cream this morning, well we were celebrating our lotto win! Yesterday did not lend itself to doing an awful lot so we made the most of our downtime and as the weather was pulling in again for another rough evening, we couldn't be too bothered to get dressed up and go out for dinner so our best bet was to grab a takeaway pizza in town and head back to camp. Before I had even got back in Roobie, Andy had a glass of Riesling poured for me, a bottle of beer for himself open and on the table sat next to the two pizza boxes. The wind was gently buffeting ... read more

In-Da-Hood-16-05-2015 What happened at 1.15 am? I was fast asleep then I heard something and I shot out of bed. Caroline reminded me this morning that there was some sort of noise outside she said it was like a knock on the door, but I seem to remember a single bang that I reacted to and she remembers me instantly getting out of bed, slipping my fleece and training shoes on and bolting out the door. I walked around Roobie and everything seemed ok, so I was quite satisfied we were in good shape, maybe I had thought a limb of a tree had crashed on top of Roobs, but we didn’t park under a tree, we are always aware of that. As I was getting back in Roobie I could feel the light drizzle of ... read more

Sneaking Off for the weekend. "Not a good weekend to choose to go away Caroline!" the words of a colleague are reverberating in my head as we head South on the freeway. Earlier in the week Andy and I decided that we would go away for the weekend, for a change on our own, no friends, no socialising with our 4 wheel drive club, just us for a bit of down time. I wanted to go to Busselton, we have driven right past it once and we always seem to manage around the Bunbury area, but never made it to Busselton. I have a few colleagues familiar with this area so throughout the week, we chuckled about the weather forecast which predicted a shocking amount of rain and a possible thunderstorm to come through, but I ... read more

Well as usual I was up early, it was 5.00am I had breakfast to do, and as I mentioned previously it was our responsibility for the next few days so there was no way we will negate are responsibility to do our share. So I crept out of bed making sure I didn’t disturb Caroline, first I got the fire going so everyone would have a nice fire when they got up, it was easy to get going, I just put a couple of kerosene tea bags and on top of that some light timber which would burn quickly, a couple of blows and hey presto, the embers burst into life and the fire took hold. I went back to Roobie and “The sleeping Caroline” and proceeded to make preparations for breakfast, on the menu this ... read more

We woke to a fresh but sunny morning at the Drummonds Reserve in the Badgingarra National Park, I was up about 05.30 beetling around while the sun rose and seemingly slightly later than where we are house sitting at the moment. Knowing my place in our marriage, I dutifully put the kettle on, being quite as a mouse so as not to wake Caroline, we were in no rush this morning and her grumpiness would only give me a hard time if I woke her so let “sleeping dogs lie” I say!! With my coffee I sat quietly and sent our coordinates to a website we use to track our travels, I somehow need to ask our technical office (Caroline) how we can integrate them to the blog so all our readers can see where we ... read more

Familiar Tones 24/04/2015 Firstly may I thank our readers and the Travel blog administrators for the fantastic words of encouragement, that we have received on our 800th Blog, all of them are special and appreciated, one that tickled me was from a fellow blogger who said there have been times when she was so tired that she fell asleep over the keyboard and wondered why she was bothering to punish herself, and wasn’t even sure if anyone was actually reading the material that she was writing but it only took a couple of positive messages on their blog site to realise that people actually where reading it and it spurred you on to keep going. Well “JD” we sometimes feel the same and thank you for your detailed “as ever” messages of support and its people ... read more

27/10/2014 The complaints department at Kangaroojack's travel Blog Inc, had received a complaint from a reader who said that we had not published Woo Hoo its the Choo Choo (Part ll) which astonished us, so in true form we never break a promise, JD we hope you enjoy it. I woke at 04.45 and just stared at the windows until the sun came up, it was unfair to disturb Caroline, so I dressed as quietly as I could and as she stirred I said I was going to Macca’s for a cup of coffee and do some of the blog, I did hear the words “bring me back a coffee”. The morning was absolutely beautiful and by the time I strode out it was about 05.20, the morning was warm and absolutely stunning, I knew the ... read more
