Wombat-cam 16th August 2015 Last night we had had a great evening meal and we had both slept very well, we were excited to be in in Tasmania and this morning our plan was to drive up to Cradle Mountain. The last time we were in Tassie was about six and a half years ago and it was great to be back on this special trip for us. The whole idea was to do some walking, catch up on the wildlife may be a Tasmanian Devil or a Wombat here and there. One of the Davis family members (Jenni) had booked this trip for us and Caroline had promised me wombats I knew this was an easy promise, bur Wombats in the snow was a completely different ball of wax and not one that Carolin could ... read more

I know it has been a while since I last wrote, but this work thing gets in the way of travel and life just gets busy. But I am here now so here goes. As a special wedding anniversary fast approaches we knew we wanted to to do something different, so I have been dreaming of long white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, palm trees, long days lolling in the sunshine drinking G&T with the condensation dripping down the side of the glass, sounds like my perfect type of bliss. Well we are not going to get any of that. One night while Andy was out a friend of ours emailed me a video of wombats playing in the snow, and inspiration suddenly struck me, Tasmania, Cradle Mountain. Perfect. I posed the idea when Andy came home ... read more

Aide Memoir 14 August 2015 Hi all, sorry for the lack of recent blogs but we have been absolutely flat strap of late, but so much has happened that we have not really recorded it which is a bit remiss of us, so the good news is this blog is going to be a brief round-up of minor events and Caroline is typing the next blog, although she claims that I have usurped her as she started typing hers at the airport yesterday. Both of us agree we can only blog when we have something meaningful to say and recently Caroline has not been very interested in the blog which is the same as I have been about it, but the interest does come back especially when we have something to record, for future. We are ... read more

Diary of Obligations-25/07/2015 We have been house sitting for the last six months in Banjup on a fantastic 5 acre property, but today is the day we move out. We both agree that it is difficult and hate the moving day as emotionally it is disruptive, but we know it has to be done, its not our house and the owners want it back and that’s fair enough. We have a little advertisement in The Toyota Landcruiser club 4 wheel drive magazine and late last year, I think it was around November) the club had new members who approached us and asked us if we wold be prepared to sit their property whilst they were away travelling for six months and as we had space in our house sitting diary of obligations this house sit was ... read more

Going Loco On Sunday the 12 July, we had been invited to go and have a steam train journey and our day went like this. Andy and Karen Brian and Nesta and Caroline and myself all met at the Pinjarra Bakery at about 8.15 what an awesome place to start any trip from, even though I am being fairly strict on myself, having lost 20 Kilo’s I still in to believe in not turning it to purgatory, so yippee it was going to be a Jolly swagman pie for my breakfast. Caroline had a Pasty and grumbled all the way through it suggesting it was not as good as the ones you get in Cornwall, I did make suggestions that if the pasties were so good in Cornwall she could go there, but she soon changed ... read more

11 July 2015 Wasn’t it the Beatles who said, I wanna hold your hand, Now I don’t want you guys drifting off to sleep, or hurting yourself out of sheer boredom but the above date was an important one for me and as this blog is not just for your entertainment, its also an aide memoir for us, so we can look back and go wow, do you remember when we did that.. Lets start with the simple stuff first. You know we drove 60,000 K’s circumnavigating Australia in 2008-2009 and when we did the only communications we had was a UHF radio, this only has line of site range. When we lived in Canberra and in the ACT 4 Wheel Drive Club we purchased a satellite phone, which was good but not quite the solution ... read more

04/07/2015 Whoo hoo the week end was here and our hearts are full of sadness, our dear dear friends Peter and Leigh Walker were on countdown to leave us. It has felt like a life time since we had met them on the Mandurah Caravan Park, we had only just arrived in Western Australia and we hit it off straight away. Let me tell you their story first as it’s a fascinating one!! Peter and Leigh had lived in Glen Innis in New South Wales, for I think all their life, Leigh was a librarian and Peter had been a cow man for 31 years as a manager of a farm, they also have a 100 acres of their own, and with his horse Scout and dogs Mate and Dash he had worked the land and ... read more

It was Friday night, the truck was all packed for a weekend away but this time we would be without Roobie, as we were off down to Myalup Pines which are old wood cutters cabins down near Bunbury. Thursday night, everything was loaded in, we are right in the middle of winter at the moment, the nights are cold and fortunately the days have been as high s 24 which has been nice, the only problem with this is having to layer up when we go to work and disrobe once the sun comes out then its all reverse by the time we are heading home. The big but here is where we were going and what we were staying in, like I said we were staying in Woodcutter cabins, they were without heating and are ... read more

The Recovery Position No, I have not done anything stupid and hurt myself again, but I can officially say "I am off the crutches", so it is back to standing on my own two feet, still a bit dodgy but I am getting there. I wondered if I am a glutton for punishment but after a short working week and what felt like a tough week we have a Friday night trip planned with out with our 4 wheel drive club friends. Friday night is usually our night to fall in a crumpled heap, but not tonight. Andy picks me up straight after work and we head out to the Parkerville Hotel, oddly enough in Parkerville. It was quiet when we went in, so we ordered our meal and a drink, soon we were joined by ... read more

War Baby 31/05/2015 Today the 31st May 2015 is a special day, it is two years to the day when we left our favourite farm on a cold and very wet afternoon to head over to Western Australia, well to head West and flip a coin at Alice anyway. I had forgotten, and Caroline showed me a shared memory from Facebook, I was blown away, two years! Where has that time gone? We have done so much! Even more excitingly last week a message arrived on Kangaroojack’s travel blog site from a fellow blogger, “Littlewing”, asking us if we would like to meet up andto go and watch a documentary about her father which was to be shown on the History channel on Sunday and furthermore another blogger (Dancing Dave) and his wife Denise also happen ... read more
