Quati The rodent things that look like raccoons are quati. They are pests in cities. In the big park in Campo Grande where the environmental police are they strew trash everywhere. Doesn't look good for the police! Capivaras are also plentiful in that park. It's too bad you didn't take the bus from CG to Corumbá. You would have seen tons of tuyuyus (what you captioned "big birds") and garcas (egrets) and jacares (crocs) and deer and boars all along the side of the road. It's an amazing place, the Pantanal! Anyway, Corumbá is right on the Bolivian border. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
Mel, Jason,
May you have a very Merry Christmas no matter where December 25th finds you! More travels and adventures await you and we are looking forward to periodic updates and photos from your journey. May 2011 be your best year ever! Take care and safe travels! PB&E

Amazing I've done the sleeping in a cave with rats and bats, stayed in a hut with spiders the size of my palm, and had dinner with millions of cockroaches raining down on me but man, your trip has balls. I thought I was scared of bugs but the thought of a 16 day hike doesn't appeal to me at all. Thank goodness you guys are doing it though so I can live through you. Canyoning looks pretty cool. Keep up with the good stuff.

Hey guys, your adventure sounds so great. My son and daughter loved the bat cave. Greyson asked about Batman. I tried to tell him Jason was actually Batman. He was having no part of that. What's a buff momo?
hey gal we missed you Hi there
You had our old email so we weren't getting the blogs..so glad your dad rectified things.
Needless to say we missed you at Poppa John's celebration of life yesterday! It was wonderful. Lorraine's house was packed, I hear 67 people. Just about all of John's first family came--we didn't know most of them, but thankfully your grandma did and introduced us the best she could. I said a few words and read a poem I wrote about my friend Johnny Johnston. God we miss him so much already. Also your dad and John's son Tom and one of his grandsons said a few words. It was most touching and I barely got through it but forced myself. Breeda has been very strong through this whole thing-a real trooper. I must tell you after we saw you last time in the hospital and you had told him all about your planned trip, after you left he said "amazing I'm in awe of THAT one!!! meaning you of course. He was so unbelievably proud. So I think it was most a propro that you were standing on the toppest part of the planet as he was making his way up to heaven. I'm sure you made contact somehow. We're off to take your grandma to say her last goodbyes to Poppa at the funeral home in aldergrove, near where we used to live. then we plan to take her to aldergrove lake park where my mom and dad's ashes are scattered. It's a lovely serene place but of course it's raining and foggy, a typical Vancouver fall day! BTW did you gain any enlightenment sitting in front of Buddha? Would you care to share? Take care of yourselves but continue to have a wonderful time.
Love

little correction please........
In the 5th paragraph you have mentioned the Monkey temple, that is actually not the monkey temple; that is Swayambhunath which you have kept inside the bracket. The temple is related with the Lord Gautam Buddha not with the monkeys, though thousands of monkeys live there. Anyway thanx for sharing your feelings about Nepal.
Adventure Bound Mel, Jason,
I can't even imagine a 16 day hike, never mind a 16 day hike near Mt. Everest.....I hope that you both brought good old Canadian wool socks to keep the feet warm at night. We really like the photos, keep on taking and posting them.
Safe travels!

Incredible! I'd love to see that wishing tree. I heard there were some beautiful temples in Kathmandu.. I'm stoked you're doing this bloggeroo. Now I can cyber stalk you! hehe.
Love you guys!!
