South America » Peru » Cusco » Cusco » Cusco February 4th 2011

First off I need to apologize. Jason and I are now in Peru and have been for almost 2 weeks. I had written a great blog on the death road telling about the adventure but I lost it as I was saving it...and it was done! Since the blog site hasn´t been operating for me, but now that it´s up and running I have a lot to write about. So the death road....definately a once in a life time experience. At first Jason and I were not going to go on the death road as we read that the death road was a lot more dangerous in the rainy season when the roads were wet. However after more research in La Paz we found reputable companies were all still running it with some extra precautions. The ... read more

South America January 22nd 2011

Wow! Bolivia has been amazing! The people the culture and the sights! For a small poor land locked country, it sure has blown us away. After Santa Cruz we took the bus to La Paz where we hung out for a few days checking out the sights. La Paz is a very neat city situated at 3600m above sea level. Nothing in this city is flat. Which makes walking around all that much harder. In fact most of the houses the foundation is the most expensive part as they have to build it so sturdy to not fall down the hill. There really is a bolivian culture that has survived through westernization. You can see it in how they dress, eat and socialize. It is truly different to our culture. While many Bolivians are very poor ... read more

South America » Brazil » Pantanal January 14th 2011

We have been to so many amazing places since i´ve last blogged. It seems like forever ago since the last blog because we have done so much stuff. We left Argentina went to the Pantanal in Brazil and now we are in Bolivia. Ok to start from the last blog we headed up to Iguazu falls. This was a very long bus ride but we rode on the first class seats so it wasn´t so bad. When we got to Iguazu we found it to be even hotter then all the places we were before but this was because it had a high humidity. Thankfully our hostel had a pool for us to cool off in. The falls were absolutely spectacular. These falls seem so much bigger then Niagra falls for anyone that´s been there. The ... read more

South America » Argentina » Mendoza » Mendoza January 1st 2011

Long time no blog! We have done so much stuff since the last blog that I almost don´t know where to start. I guess since right after the last blog is a good place. On the last blog it was the day before Christmas eve. I had said that we planned to go on a bike wine tour Christmas eve but due to the holidays most wineries were closed until December 27 so we post-poned that trip. In stead of the wine tour on Christmas eve we decided to take in Mendoza by doing a walking tour, and getting onto the Argentinan eating style. This includes eating late long lunches over wine with friends and dinner doesn´t happen until between 10-12 at night. We thought that wine was cheap in Chile but it turns out it ... read more

South America » Chile » Valparaíso Region » Valparaíso December 24th 2010

Well we decided that we wanted to head out to what was described as the sleepy beach towns of the coast. This definately wasn´t the case, Valpariso was a bussling town. That being said Valparaiso was a very neat looking city. The buildings are very colourful and from the bottom of the hills they are built on they appear to be stacked on top of each other. We did a couple of walking tours which included a lot of walking considering the entire town seems to go up and down. The town seemed to be full of markets and we are unsure if that is a usual thing or if the markets are just there for Christmas. We were sure they were as busy as they were because of Christmas though. The one great thing about ... read more

South America » Chile » Santiago Region December 18th 2010

Chillin in Santiago We have as most you know already started our next adventure in South America. We didn't get around to writing a blog about our wedding in Mexico but it was amazing. Jason and I flew into Lima Peru. Here we stayed at a really neat hostel that has tons of art work and statues throughout the place. We booked a flight down to Santiago for the next day after arriving as we had to meet Tina and Mike there who were flying in shortly after. So on our only night in Peru Jason and I decided to go out and have a Pisco Sour. This is a typical drink in Peru made with egg whites, pisco and various other ingredients. Unfortunately the waitress was gone before we asked the price and we were ... read more

Asia » Nepal » Pokhara November 17th 2010

Well Jason and I headed off to Pokhara to check out the sites and see some of the annapurna region. We took a gruesome 8 hour trip on a bus to get there. Sadly this only covered 190 km! We didn't book the bus ahead of time so when we showed up most of the buses were full. We ended up with seats in the cab. I was actually quite happy with this as the seats seamed more comfortable then the regular seats. When we got to Pokhara we decided we needed a chill day. We spent an entire day doing tours of Cafe's! It was a great day. This is all we did other then a short boat paddle out into the middle of the lake. Jason and I had hoped to get some of ... read more

Asia » Nepal » Borderlands November 13th 2010

We decided after our big hike that we would take a completely different adventure and try out Canyoning. I'll admit this was completely my idea and my convincing. However it turned out great and we had a blast. So many people don't know what canyoning is. So first off I'll explain that. Canyoning is when you adventure down a canyon through various methods such as, abseiling (rappelling), sliding down rock chutes, jumping walking and sometimes swimming. In our case we did not do any real swimming other then being dunked at the end of some of our slides. Ok so to start at the beginning. The trip starts in Kathmandu with a "mere 3 hour drive to the borderlands resort." Or so they say. First off we started late as some of the tourist clearly didn't ... read more

Asia » Nepal » Lukla November 9th 2010

16 day hike, been to Everest Base Camp, Kalipatar, Cholo Pass, Gokyo Lake, Gokyo Ri...check check check. Longest hike I’ve done yet but definitely the most amazing. You haven't hiked until you've hiked the Himalayas. The hike was done through a local tourist agency we found through our hostel here in Nepal. Turns out we got one of the best trips for the best price. I was really impressed. The trip starts when you leave Kathmandu and take the twin prop plane to Lukla. This was one of the most interesting plane rides of my life and wasn't for the faint hearted. We were the first plane to leave in the morning. We take a bus out to the plane- which is very worn out on the inside but seems to operate ok. We all get ... read more

Asia » Nepal » Kathmandu » Thamal October 23rd 2010

Well after some more jammed packed days in Nepal I thought I'd write another update before I ship out to do my Everest Base Camp trek tomorrow morning. The food here is amazing! I think i'm going to come back 20 pounds heavier! We have been trying all the dishes and the only thing I have decided I don't like is curd. My favorite is the Buff Momo (thanks chelsea!). Jason and I have done quite a bit of walking around Kathmandu just taking in the sites and the culture. It is definately very different from all the ones i've traveled in before. The people are struck with poverty like many other countries i've traveled to but unlike others they all seem to live together intermingled. There doesn't seem to me as much seperation between the ... read more
