juan franco - juan robinson franco

juan robinson franco i like photography; in fact, it is my passion - i could tell you a lot of things about me but I really don't know which one you might find interesting - so I'll let my photos do the talking

as a photographer, i document the interplay between the subject, surroundings, and light

photography is a conscious and deliberate positioning of an entire moment

frame the image - focus, use light, everything must stop for fractions of time - everything converges

time stands still for an instant - documenting now - people, buildings, cars, activities and how it comes together to create the image in my mind

properly capture the interaction of subjects & light to present an image with dignity and integrity is the focus

photography must add to the collective conscious - not subtract from the good

So, does this bus have air conditioning - asked the portly elderly woman, accompanied by three of her peers as they got on the bus at the airport in Puerto Maldonado... So started the venture for those suspecting the trip into the peruvian amazon would be a quaint get away - much like gilligan and crew - a three hour tour turned into a day from hell for the four ladies - after a two hour canoe ride downstream to the ecoamazonian lodge - the eight of us were taken to our huts, which much to the consternation and dismay of [View Full Entry]

Served to allow the Incas the ability to examine and test the progress of crops at various levels of terrain and altitude - thise are three people at the bottom
Until i spent time in the andes as an adult, i had very little of a concept of what an absolutely magnificent civilization was created by the Incas. I had studied the Incas and the predecessors in elementary and high school while i was living in Peru. Considering they were able to conquer and to assimilate peoples from Colombia to Chile - which themselves performed brain surgery, created magnificent temples, astronomical guides and calenders - the Inca EMpire must be considered one of the select great civilizations of all time Amongst the greatest, was the ability to manage an ampire [View Full Entry]

A moment to recognize a great man
A moment to recognize a great man
In the central plaza in cusco - a moment for the pope and the people
In the past six weeks, i have been fortunate to live amidst humanity. People enjoying the simple pleasures in life - family, friends, the day, food, life... It seems, somehow the 1st world nations have lost touch with the truly critical matters of life, love and faith in an all mighty and merciful God. Not the power of the dollar or euro or yen, but the power of good and of love. Amidst all of the povery and suffering, life evolves and blossoms into all which man ascribes and can become - kindness of a street vendor towards and aging man [View Full Entry]

They arrive sharply at 10am, in droves as if locust - departing cusco to aguas calientes at 6am and arriving around 930am... like robots, programed by the locals to get the bus tickett upto machupiccu, get water, get a rain pnocho, check into the hotel - much like disneyland for the affluent - world travelling - bored - middle to old age... we donīt remember days or places perse - it ismore we remember moments in our lives - it does not matter much if the image on paper or magnetic is aestetically acurate or focused or good - it is [View Full Entry]

Life has been a series of circular references - start at one place, go for some period of time - say 5 or 20 years, and select a place... then return to the place and evaluatewhere you have been and what you have done during the period of time... A long time ago, in a life far away - i was in machupicchu - the capital city of the Inca empire. back then, the train would leave cusco, and it semed it went for a long time until it reached machupicchu - well, it kind of did go for almost four [View Full Entry]

S 13š 30.471 / W 071š 58.834 A MA LU YA - DO NOT LIE A MA SU WA - DO NOT STEAL A MA QUELLA - DO NOT BE LAZY However phoenitically incorrect, and my appologies to those fluent in quechua - these are the three sacred words passed down from the Inca to the people of the TAHUANTINSUYO... The greatest and oldest empire, developed in the American continent and that had the city of Cusco as its headquarters, goes back to the year 1200 A.C. The word Tawantinsuyo comes from a name composed by two Quechua terms: Tawa, which [View Full Entry]

Everywhere i watched the TV in the last 36 hours in peru, it was about the life of one man, and the good he did in confronting communism, castro, the argentine dictatorships, pinochett and gw bush as well as several other international despots... - i guess it depends where you live - or does it [View Full Entry]

You know you are alive because you can hear noises, and there is a constant pain in your head and stomach - the perspiration continues to cover everything - has it been three days or four days - is this still cusco - every inch of your body hurts, your joints scream out in pain, and you can not keep thoughts in order - time flows in and out of context - as you pass in and out of consiousness - alone in a far away place, sick with some kind of a bug, after the fourth day of pain and [View Full Entry]

Invite PETA to Arequipa Peru to experience a great sport - bull fighting - no not man vs. beast, but beast vs. beast... An absolutely enlightning experience which has a great correleation and application towards mankind - for instance, the bull that makes the most noise before the fight - is usually not the victor. Photos to follow. When a society does not have a massive technology base - it resorts to more humanistic endeavors - OK bull fighting may not be humanistic perse. however, arts, music, long lunches, spending time with family and friends.
