Thanks for the Tribute to Ron Rubick
Nice tribute to a "great man." I knew Ron when he was a player in Manistique. I knew him when he and his brother Seb (later my high school math teacher) were helping his father coach my little league team. I knew him when his dear mom was my English teacher. He was always a quiet, gentle and unassuming hero... We were devastated when he left Manistique for Manitowoc, but we wish Jim well...because he was out hero. He always gave so much of himself and was such a good role model. We sould al l be so lucky as to have a Ron Rubick in our lives. I was and am very grateful. BTW, I just saw your tribute and was not aware of Ron's passing before now. Thank you for writing this as it captured the essence of the man and his impact on so many. I have always had a great fondness for the whole Rubick family and wish them my belated best...

Well done...
Your love of the place and the people shines. I'm an old Peace Corps/Korea volunteer, married to an almost as old Peace Corps/Korea language teacher, and we intend to retire to a farm/orchard with relatives within the next few years. Looks like a real good fit!

Touched
Jon your farewell letter to your Gram was very touching. I felt your bond in every line. I'am sure you put a smile on her face. Now I'll know what you mean when you say toot-a-loo.

memories
Wow, Thanks for sharing. I know how great to travel the world is, but the downside is not being able to share all the silly daily nonsense of family living. The memories of all that do bring laughter and smiles inside. I know Lance enjoyed most the stories of how the evil dog age my 500.00 shoe inserts, or brought a gopher into the house, or rolled in the neighbors horse dung. Anyway I cried when I read the letter to Grandma. Hold tight to all that family stuff, you and Cassie will now be creating YOUR family stuff and memories to warm other peoples hearts.:)

Thanks for the insight into Korea
Jon and Cassie, Cassie knows me because of my brother Jimmy, and my talking about my Peace corps days. When you come to Bozeman give me a call and I will cook a dinner or take you two out to dinner. @liliram
Thanks so much for the comment. I recommend Korea to anyone, it's not necessarily on the travelers trail, but there are some amazing hidden treasures here. I will continue to keep this blog beyond our dwindling days in Korea, to wherever life takes us, so we will definitely be in contact. Thanks for following, and do let me know if I can ever help you in your travels. Be well!

Yup, so soon. I was hoping to catch up with you guys when i do get to korea . Won't be for a while though, as I have too many in my list. But who knows? We always find promo airfares here, and that's enough to push us into a plane. Anyway, hope to still hear from you.

Coach Rubick
Mr. Bubba Wick: First of all, we don't know each other. My name is Dick Graphos. I'm living in Appleton and was born and raised in Manistique Mi. I read your article on Coach Rubick a while back and saw it again today. For not being a writer, what a terrific piece. I was touched. I grew up with Ron. Went to St. Francis de Sales grade school and Manistique Hich School. What a classmate, teammate and friend. I felt blessed just to have Known him. I don't know if you got to attend his funeral servlices or not, but what a tribute. I have never been so moved at a service as his. Tribute upon tribute was paid to Ron. Your article said it all. I attended Manistique High Schools dedication of the football field iln Coach Rubicks name last weekend. It was well attended by his former teammates and many friends. I understand that Manitowoc will be doing the same this week end. Another wonderful trilbute. Just wanted to let you know that you expressed your feelings for Ron very well. We'll all miss a wonderul person. I'll miss a great guy and a dear friend. Dick Graphos P.S. You also hit the nail on the head in describing Rons wife JoNell.A beautiful woman in and out!

Times have changed!
I enjoyed your descriptions of Hong Kong and Macau since I was there in 1972. It sounds so 2009, but some things have actually remained the same. I really want to go to Vietnam after all your incredible writing and description. I continue to be extremely impressed with the very talented descriptive writing you put out and please say hi to Cassie from Susan and Jim!
