If there was a hangover to report, it was blown away by the cool wind that blew through the streets of Toronto this morning. It was only a few hours ago that I walked back and the streets were buzzin, the lights were dancing and the rooms spinning. Now, the show had to move on to the final stop before the big flight home. One cool thing about flying back to the USA was that I got my Immigration clearance here in Toronto. Instead of having to go through the whole immigration nervousness that I encountered in San Francisco, I had to do it here in Toronto. I wasn’t so nervous this time but it also meant that once I got into San Francisco, I got straight off the plane, collected my bags and then ... read more

As I woke up, a lot of other people in the dorm were up as well, but they were looking very worse for wear. Did everyone else go out last night? Damnit, why didn’t they tell me where they were going? Sure I don’t have a problem drinking by myself in a pub but I have met Aussies in dribs and drabs all along this trip! I went downstairs to have a light breakfast and saw a bus piling on passengers for a day trip to Niagara Falls. I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do today yet. All I wanted was another day in Toronto and even another night. Tomorrow I would set course for San Francisco on my way back home, so I had to make sure that I would make it ... read more

I have no idea how I got here, but I awoke at 11am to find myself on one of the recliners in the lounge room. It wasn’t a bad bed at all! The only people who were awake were Tash and Spencer; Tash had gone to work and Spencer has gone to his mom’s house. I went for a walk out to the balcony but it was a little chilly, so I stepped back inside and the radio was still on. There were plenty of old rock classics to be heard and I drifted in and out of sleep, only to be awoken by something I hadn’t seen for nearly 8 years. The chilled winds had gotten even colder and before too long, the grass in the apartment complex courtyard started turning white. Soon after, ... read more

I woke up at the insane hour of 2am while Caelis was still up chatting on the Internet, even though it felt like I had been asleep for over ten hours. My teeth were still playing knock and run on my nerves so I brushed them over before going back to sleep and not waking up for another ten hours. When I finally awoke, Tash and Spencer wanted to show me their Halloween costumes. Halloween is another big celebration here that has little or no showing in Australia. Tash had some devil horns but Spencer is always the show off and he got into an outfit that had everyone blushing! He was parading around showing off his ample assets and it seemed that only he could be the one to get into this outfit. I ... read more

I hardly unpacked last night, but since Baz is so huge, there was a little bit of drama fitting him back into the luggage. He must have helped himself to some pumpkin squash while everyone was sleeping! Phil thought about calling in to work sick or just showing up whenever he wanted to. He has been working some crazy hours getting the new Home Depot store in town ready for their opening day and he hasn’t even been sleeping properly. He drives Kryssie and myself down to the airport and we hang around for a bit until we see Kryssie’s mom, Jade as well as a family friend show up. I don’t mind waiting around at the airport for another two hours while I wait for my plane back to Toronto, but the four girls ... read more

I’ve had trouble contacting the hostel in Fredericton to tell them that I wanted to cancel my booking. I’ve tried contacting them all the way back since I was in New York, but all I get is an answering machine with my cell phone number. I’m going to be spending the night at Kryssie’s house after what will be a huge Thanksgiving meal! I wait for a hotel shuttle outside of the Royal York Hotel. There’s a beggar asking for a cigarette, which I don’t have but he also wishes me a nice day. It’s a shame I don’t smoke because I would have given him one after that. He forgets who I am, because about 7 minutes later, he asks me again if I have a spare cigarette. The bus heads out towards Lester ... read more

I woke up at 2am because my tooth was aching very badly. I went to brush my teeth and wash it out several times but the pain wouldn’t subside. I didn’t have any painkillers or aspirins on me so I went for an early morning walk around to find any store that would sell anything to alleviate my pain. I went back to walk up Yonge St and there was still the calmness and safeness that I hadn’t experienced in any other Northern American city at night. For once, I felt safe to be out at night by myself. I continued walking around but I only found a coffee house called Tim Horton’s, where I bought a bottle of water as well as a hot coffee. There was a bum that was outside the store ... read more

By now it was 4pm but it didn’t feel that we had been on the road for so long or travelled so far. We crossed the Niagara River twice, further adding to the climactic build up to the actual border crossing! The third crossing was on the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge and I spotted a US flag next to a Canadian flag. We had made it! Hi fives all round! We didn’t have to wait that long before being officially let into the country, as opposed to the traffic banking up in the opposite direction. I had to get a stamp on my passport, as I wasn’t a US citizen so we drove up to an office to be quizzed by immigration. “So, how long are you both here for?” Dani replied, “I’m here for the weekend. ... read more

The cats definitely kept me warm all through the night. Dani said that it was one of the coldest nights lately but I didn’t feel such coldness. All I felt was the seediness of way too many Otter Creeks as well as combined beers from karaoke. I did all my packing last night and so did Dani so it wasn’t too long after we woke up that we began on our way at 10am. It was a perfect Saturday morning in the season of Fall, to be out. A convoy of RVs had the same idea and we were stuck behind them for about 30 miles as they cruised down the roads, having a look at all the leaves changing on all the trees by the side of the road. In all our ranting and ... read more

It had been 31 days since arriving in the United States of America and today, there was nothing planned on the agenda for today. I always try and plan a rest day in all my travels but I had to wait this long before I was able to do it! My feet will thank me later on tonight when we head to ‘the club’! Dani had to run off and bring one of her cats over while I stayed at home and watched endless re-runs of Passions, followed by Family Matters. I sewed my bag up again and made sure that I had all relevant paperwork ready to cross the border into Canada. By the time Dani came home in the afternoon, we discussed the game plan for tomorrow’s big road trip to Toronto. She ... read more
