We have now arrived in Munich, famous for its beer halls and Oktoberfest, unfortunately its only April! The past few days in Berlin were very productive. We did a Free Tour of Berlin (which is actually not free because you are expected to tip..but the guides are so fantastic you want to anyway.) Our guide was a tiny little girl from America, with a massive voice but perhaps I repeat myself. The tour took us all around a city that has to be one of the most volatile in recent history. In many ways it seems that the end of WWII [View Full Entry]

After spending most of yesterday at Berlin-Tegel airport we have sorted out what we are doing for the next month. We are still in Berlin, we had to go to the airport because Lufthansa don't have an office in the city. Originally we were to leave berlin today and spend just under 4 weeks in Scandinavia and then fly to Thailand. Now we leave Berlin in exactly 1 month from today but in the meantime we will travel around central Europe on train. After Berlin we head to Munich and Stuttgart. Then on the train we head towards Budapest, Hungary, perhaps [View Full Entry]

In the words of John F. Kennedy Ich Bin Ein Berliner (I Am A Berliner), well atleast until the weekend. We arrived in Berlin on Sunday and have been staying in a very cool hostel in the centre of town. After 10 weeks of solid travelling, sightseeing and yes, drinking, we have used the past few days as an oppurtunity to take a well earned rest, well atleast from the travelling and sightseeing :) The past fews days have been filled with reading, playing guitar and sitting in the cafe drinking coffee. Very relaxing. Anyway since there is not much to [View Full Entry]

What?
Horseriding in the Czech Woods
After Paintball

Today we leave the city that we have spent the most time in apart from New York. At once it feels like we have been here forever and that we have just arrived. The past few day we have managed to keep the delicate balance of being productive during the day while enjoying the local brews during the night. The day after I last write, Pudd headed out with our mates from Wisconsin while I did a walking tour of Prague that focussed on the Communist era, basically post-World War II. It was a bitterly cold day so the tour was [View Full Entry]

Prague, as well being the capital of the newly formed Czech Republic, is also the capital of Central Bohemia. Bohemia is an historical region within the Czech republic. So when someones says "That's very bohemian" or "the bohemian end of chapel street", it is this region that they are referring to. It is said that quite a number of artists, intellectuals and non-conformists inhabited this area in the past, hence why the term has the meaning it has today in western culture. Since I last wrote we have seen and done a great deal within Prague, and outside of it. The [View Full Entry]

We have now arrived in the old city of Prague. Having heard so much about this place from other travellers it really had quite a bit to live up to. For those unaquainted with the capitol of the Czech Republich it, like Vienna, is famous for a lot of things but 2 mainly: Spectacular historic buildings and cheap beer. The Czech Republic are the undisputed world champions of beer production and, of course, consumption. Yes, Australia likes a beer but not as much as these folk. The most recognisable Czech beer is Budweiser. Yep, that beer flavoured water that the americans [View Full Entry]

Vienna, Austria home to, among many other things, Mozart and chocolate. Infact on the plane here from Rome as well as the usual fare, coffee and water etc, they actually give you chocolate and its called Mozart Chocolate! Can a little piece of confectionary really be able to sum up an entire city so easily? The answer is maybe, actually. Everywhere you go in Vienna there is Mozart, its like the man is running for President or something. Chocolate on the other hand doesn't seem to be so omnipresent. The day we arrived here we were greeted with an Austria that [View Full Entry]

We leave the historic and old city of Oxford and have arrived in an even more historic and older city, the Eternal City, Rome. We have been here for a few days now and although there has been little sun the weather is still a far sight better than anything the United Kingdom has to offer. We are staying at the Freedom Traveller Hostel near Roma Termini Station, the place I stayed at 3 years ago with Marcus and Kate and met some great (Australian) people. The place is very different now but still offers very good lodging for quite low [View Full Entry]
