jkinnard - James Kinnard

James Kinnard I've worked for a travel company for going on 10 years, and I've been blessed to see a lot of the world. This month, I'm heading off to England for a 6 month assignment that will have me bouncing around Europe. This blog is to keep my friends and family (and anyone interested) up to date on whatever adventures I find myself in.

Epilogue: Europe 2006! ”Regrets I have a few, but then again too few to mention” - Frank Sinatra “My Way” The final entry for this adventure! It seems like both a long time and an instant since I sent you my first London blog in January. Right now I’m sitting on an American Airlines Flight heading back to Dallas. Not really certain where I’m going to live, but hey that’s a small detail. This has been a great year for me and one that many people (including a lot of you reading this) are getting tired of hearing about. I know [View Full Entry]

Tattoos, Taxis & Stealing Towels! And sent them homewards tae think again! - Flower of Scotland Since my Germany blog last week life has been a bit of a blur as I get ready to return to the United States. Packing, cleaning and closing out work issues kept me pretty busy, but there was still time for fun. My friend Donna came over to spend the last week with me and we managed to get ourselves into a few dicey situations. The first few days went smoothly enough, a bit of sight seeing, some good dinners and a few pints just [View Full Entry]

Kirmes … Germans, Glam Rock, Beer &Brats (without Mustard)! Long blog today, but it’s the second last one … so deal with it! I’m a bit late with this blog; however, I just flew in from Frankfurt yesterday and was a bit tired from a really fun weekend. Several months ago my friend Anja (see Greece, Austria & World Cup post), told me about Kirmes; a festival in her home town which is comprised of five days of music, fun, beer and food in a big tent. Every week during the summer a different town hosts the party and invites the [View Full Entry]

Happy Hours, Stag Nights, Hangovers and Big Seats! no good pictures this week ... I can hear many of you tuning out! Sorry it’s been two-weeks since my last posting, but I’ve been busy and I had to squeeze in a trip to Dallas. Now it’s Sunday August 13th, and the momentum of my trip seems to be swinging towards wrapping things up, handing things off and trying to squeeze in things I haven’t got to in the last seven months. Sadly, that list is too long; I could spend another year and still leave with a huge volume of things [View Full Entry]

Troubling Trends, Schlepping Boxes and Welsh Rarebit! Pre-Blog Note: Tomorrow I enter my final month on this adventure; Monday August 28th I fly back to Dallas. I’m running out of weekends, and with a trip to Dallas stuck in there I figure I’m good for about three more blog entries (40 is a nice round number). In many ways I will miss journaling my random thoughts and experiences, and I hope you have enjoyed reading them (or just looking at the pics). Although, it would seem you all (collectively) are ready for a break if statistics are to be believed. My [View Full Entry]

Hot French People, Windsor Drama and Red Arrows! ” Is there anything worn under the kilt? No, it's all in perfect working order. - Spike Milligan Why is this quote both funny and timely? Because I just received word from Michelle that she received a large box from Scotland. This can mean only one thing; my kilt and full accouterments have arrived in Dallas!! And in some point in the next year, I’ll come up a with a reason to wear it. :-) Blog part 1 … Paris! On Wednesday I had scheduled a department meeting in Paris, which was actually [View Full Entry]

Arriving in Newcastle Filled With Hope!
The Empire, The Wall, Newcastle United and a Bunch of Rocks! Hello Everyone, I’m back in England and looking forward to a few more adventures before they kick me out of the country. Before this week’s blog, please indulge me a quick detour: A Brief Note on British & Roman History ” But apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?” - Name that movie? Somewhere around 122 AD, the Roman Emperor Hadrian decided the empire was big enough; so rather than tangle [View Full Entry]

Canterbury Tales, a Walk in The Park And The Who "Rock won't eliminate your problems, but it will sort of let you dance all over them." - Pete Townsend - The Who This first paragraph is a little sad, but this is where my head is while I’m writing today. It’s Sunday night and I’m in somewhat of a pensive mood; I don’t know why, but I’m sure we all have days where we take a more serious look at our life. It could be that there is now a date on the end of my time here (August 28th is [View Full Entry]

Canals, bikes, Red Lights and Dudes Watching Football! “If you hear a voice within you saying, ''You are not a painter,'' then by all means paint… and that voice will be silenced.” - Vincent van Gogh I was supposed to fly to Dallas this weekend and since there was a last minute change I had no plans for the weekend. Now many people would sit back and say, "relaxing weekend!"; but that wouldn't be me now would it! I had to work late on Friday so at about 7p.m I started thinking about the weekend. I felt the need to explore, [View Full Entry]

Hamburgers, Frankfurters, Asparagus, Strawberries & Fußball! This week finds me in Germany for a mix of business and pleasure. I have a German lady that works for me in Hamburg, so I needed to go and preach the gospel according to James. I had several meetings with “The German Works Council,” who told me all the wonderful things I could not have this lady do. If I expect her to work longer than 10 hours a day, then I need their permission, if I want her to come to London for a 3-day meeting I need their permission. On top of [View Full Entry]
