December 12th 2011

With the completion of International Management we were released for our final ten days of travel. My group and I decided that traveling Paris, Barcelona, and Lisbon was the best way to utilize the ten days. As I said we decided to begin our trip in Paris. I was greeted in the train station by a high school friend who was studying at a university in Paris. I was very excited to see someone from back home and it was nice to have someone who was familiar with the city. That night she took my group to a great restaurant where I had steak with a gorgonzola cheese sauce; but more importantly I began my crème brulee tour of Paris. Unfortunately Rachel was leaving for Rome the next morning so we only got to spend one ... read more

October 22nd 2011

With many of the other students traveling Italy, Seth and I decided it was a perfect time to visit Nice, France. We hoped to have just a nice relaxing weekend on the beautiful coast of the Mediterranean Sea. With rain Friday night when we arrived, I was worried it was going to be a wet boring weekend. Luckily when we woke up Saturday morning the sun was out and shining. We started the day by visiting the local fish market, a must see in Nice. The market was full of fresh fish, octopi, and mussels. The market was huge; it spanned for at least 5 blocks. From here we started to walk to the water. The view was beautiful. The water was a perfect blue color and the waves crashed on to the rocky beach. It ... read more

We arrived in Brussels late Friday night and spent about an hour and a half lost in the city looking for our hostel. Great start right? Finally checked in at Sleep Tight hostel, we searched for a place to eat dinner but unfortunately the only thing available at midnight in Brussels was a nice McDonalds cheeseburger. Saturday morning was one of my favorite parts of the weekend. In a matter of three hours I had managed to eat 4 genuine “Belgium Waffles.” The first one consisted of just powdered sugar, but the following ones were covered with bananas, nutella, and whipped cream. It was a great switch from the traditional bread and cheese breakfast everywhere else in Europe. After breakfast we made our way towards the Manneken Pis. This statue is a “must-see” monument in the ... read more

The trip to Berlin began as soon as our final ended on Friday. We had to rush to the train station to make our eleven hour train to Germany. Arriving in the 40 degree weather was a rude awaking that we were no longer in our shorts and t-shirt weather anymore. Unfortunately none of us had checked the forecast so we were all under dressed for the weekend. But that was not enough to deter from seeing Berlin to it's fullest. The trip began very interestingly as a homeless man tried instigating a fight with Seth for no reason before we even left the train station! We quickly accepted the fact that walking the streets of Berlin at 1:00 A.M was not exactly the safest or smartest idea. We grabbed a taxi and arrived to our ... read more

Ten Day Break with the Parents

October 7th 2011

My ten-day break began in Munich for a day of Oktoberfest. Because hostels in Munich were fully booked last April we had to stay in Salzburg, Austria. The only downfall was that it was an additional two hours to Munich the next day! We arrived early in the morning (left Salzburg at 4:30 A.M) to make sure we got into the main tent. I managed to network with a few executives of a Real Estate Investment Firm from Venice, they were great! They brought me drinks all day and offered me an internship whenever I wanted haha. Great food, great fun, but when all was said and done Oktoberfest kicked my butt. Enough said. The train ride to Rome gave me enough time to recover before I met up with my parents. I was really looking ... read more

September 12th 2011

Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay since my last post but it has been a hectic week with finishing Introductory Finance. But to catch all of you up, I spent last weekend in the Almalfi Coast. The Almalfi Coast makes up the southern coast of Italy along the Mediterranean Sea. On Friday night we stopped in Naples for dinner. One of the people I was traveling with suggested a pizza place that was featured in the movie "Eat Pray Love." The pizzeria was not to pleasing to the eye but the pizza was one of, if not the best, I've ever had. The sauce was so hearty and the crust was perfectly cooked over the wood stove. Also, the heaping mounds of melted mozzarella helped! We then left Naples and headed off to Sorrento to spend ... read more

Interlaken-Day 2

September 3rd 2011

Today was one of the best days I've had since being abroad. Interlaken is known for their extreme sports like skydiving, paragliding, canyoning, zip-lining and many more. Prior to coming, previous Riva students said it was mandatory we go canyoning and zip-lining if we made it to Interlaken. So we took their word for it. Canyoning is an activity that mixes cliff jumping, water-sliding, and repelling down a canyon in the Alps. A company called AlpinRaft took all 11 of us this morning. They provided us with wet suits, helmets, harnesses, and most importantly their guidance down the canyon. The guys who ran the trip were sooooo much fun. They immensely added to the quality of the trip with their personalities and humor. After being briefed at their base camp, we climbed into our wet suits ... read more

September 2nd 2011

Earlier this afternoon we left Riva as soon as Finance class was over. Our train to Interlaken left at 1:15 and we planned to arrive around 6:30. We had to transfer trains in both Zurich and Bern on our 5 hour trip but unfortunately we did not get to see much of either city (leave it for another day). The scenery from the train was great it included mountains, rivers, lakes, and occasional farm land. I knew i was close when a mountain appeared to the right with a white cap. It is nearly impossible to describe how big this mountain was and I am sorry to inform you that my pictures will not do it justice either. When we arrived today it quickly turned into the blame game as we realized no one had brought ... read more

August 28th 2011

Good Evening Everyone! Today was an incredible day. At 6:00 A.M. my roommates and I hiked to the top of the mountain to see the sunrise while the rest of the group slept in. The view over the town was perfect as the sun came over the horizon. We were able to see so much of the landscape that we would have missed out on if we had not woke up and climbed to the top. We were all very happy we did. Around 9 we met everyone else at the local Creperia for breakfast. I ordered a lemon and sugar crepe and let me tell you it was a great way to start off the day. Our agenda consisted of hiking to all of the towns along the Via dell'amore. Which translates into the Trail ... read more

August 27th 2011

This morning started with our first final exam of the year. We finished up our first course in a little over a week and it looks like I received an A. Great way to start off the semester! As a celebration of finishing our first course we were given the next few days off to travel where ever we pleased. A group of 11 us decided to go to Cinque Terre, Italy. Cinque Terre is a region of Italy that consists of five towns built along the coastline. The area is lined with cliffs and mountainous terrain. It took us five hours to get here today by train. We took a train from Riva San Vitale to Milan and then transferred onto a new train which took us directly to Riomaggiore. Riomaggiore is the most southern ... read more
