Dream Lake
Dream Lake
This glacial lake was still covered in ice, and the trail up had about 3 feet of snow on it. Really nice scenery, even if we were up in the clouds.
With all of our spare time out here, we decided to spend some time camping in nearby Rocky Mountain National Park. The park is about 45 minutes from Boulder, but it feels so much more remote. We stayed at an amazing campsite in a glacial valley, with views of snow covered peaks on two sides of us. We are definitely planning on returning to the park soon. [View Full Entry]

We made it!
On the 15th, we rolled into Boulder. Both of us were super impressed that the Subaru had held up so well (had to replace the muffler, as part of it fell off in Minnesota...just made for a noisy ride) and we were certainly grateful for that. Reflecting on the trip, we realized how awesome it was and how excited we were to see all that stuff. But nothing compares to being able to stay in one place for more than one night in a row and shower and go the fridge and get some food. The past week has been spent [View Full Entry]

The Badlands was our destination after Minneapolis. After the most boring drive of the trip (and windiest!!) we ended up in some of the most beautiful territory we've ever seen. It was also incredibly different than anything we've ever seen. The first night, we stayed in a campground in the Badlands....but after torrent winds that shook our tent so badly we couldn't sleep, we gave up and slept in a hotel in Wall, South Dakota, home of Wall Drug, the next night. Wall Drug was pretty interesting, to say the least. We explored plenty of the Badlands and it was up [View Full Entry]

After Chicago, we went to Minneapolis to stay with Mitzi Overland, my roommate Melanie's mom. She was such a gracious host and let us stay long enough to catch the Sox playing the Twins. The Sox lost, unfortunately, but we had a great time at the game! We bought tickets the day of, too. Who knew? Minneapolis is a really fun city and we also did some exploring before the game. We saw the sculpture garden and the Guthrie, which is this crazy building with all kinds of theaters. We had a great time. [View Full Entry]

We loved Chicago!!! What a fun city. We did a lot of walking around and site seeing in our day there. Both of us decided that we'd love to return to Chicago someday. We stayed in this really nice hotel downtown and saw the city at night. It was beautiful. [View Full Entry]

After leaving Niagara falls (and getting a tiny bit lost...) we continued our drive through New York, Pennsylvania, and into Ohio. Just past Cleveland is a little college town called Oberlin, where our friend Will goes to school. It was finals time at school there, and everyone was very busy (it felt good to be done, again) but we got a chance to see some of the sites. The conservatory there is world famous, and boasts to have the most Steinway pianos under one roof, anywhere in the world. [View Full Entry]

After a short stop over in Albany, New York with our friend Peter we were Canada bound. Niagra Falls was just about the halfway point for our driving and we thought it would be a nice chance to stretch our legs. We lucked out with some beautiful weather, and the falls were just amazing. An incredible natural wonder. [View Full Entry]
