my boyfriend Dario and I are heading on a round the world trip.
Im a wildlife junky as anyone who knows me will tell you, so I'm very excited about heading to places like Costa Rica and Madagascar.
Dario is equally as excited, but maybe not so excited about the wildlife aspect as I am.
I have pet pythons and a pet bearded dragon among normal pets like a dog 😊

Next morning we were up at 7.30am and we all had to leave at 8.30. We arrived in Nairobi at 9.30 and said our goodbyes to those who weren’t going to Carnivores for lunch that day, Amy had booked us in. We got off the truck at the Boulevarde hotel and walked with a bunch of other to the parkside, only 10 mins away and had to wait in reception for an hour before we could check in. Finally we got our room. We chilled for a little while before meeting the others to take taxis that Amanda had managed to organize for us to Carnivore. It’s a restaurant where most tourists who visit Nairobi will go, theres a flat rate and its all you can eat meat basically, they come around with huge swords of ... read more

Next morning we were up early again and it was a border crossing day. When we got to the border Amy collected all out passports and the money needed from each of us for the Ugandan visa and went and did it all for us. We waited on the bus and bought drinks etc out the windows. Finally she came back and off we went into Uganda. We had lunch in a carpark of a Chinese restaurant that backed onto a petrol station which was odd, with the tables and chairs up on the grassy bit. Lots of people looked at us funny. There was a big roundabout next to us and there had been an accident earlier in the day or the day before and a huge truck that had been pulling a trailor with ... read more

Next morning we had organized a taxi to take us to Mombasa to the bus stop. We got there almost an hour early, much better than being late though. Finally we got on our bus and it was the aircon version, very comfy, but it took a while for the aircon to cool the bus down sufficiently. We stopped halfway at the same place as on the way to Mombasa and had some empanadas (they call them meat pies) then oiled on again and left for Nairobi. We arrived at about 7.30 at the bus stop, and had called ahead to a taxi driver who gave us his card, but he sent his mate who waited for us since 6pm when the bus was supposed to arrive! We felt bad so paid extra even though he ... read more

Next morning we had brekky then packed and checked out. We got a tuk tuk to the highway and waited about 5 mins for a big bus to turn up. We didn’t want to take a matatu, more risky than a big bus in an accident. And went to Mombasa. It took about 3 hours since we stopped a lot to drop off and let on passengers. Our bag was shoved up front next to the driver, it was so full its funny! We got off in Mombasa, and the bus guy took us to the Modern Coast Express office so we could buy tickets for the 26th. We did that then got a taxi to take us to Diani Beach, via an atm. This means crossing the Likoni Ferry, we were in line for ... read more

Next morning we were up early as we had prearranged the shuttle to Nairobi that was to pick us up at 7.30ish. We had breakfast (included) and then raced downstairs. We got on the shuttle and it took us to the actual shuttle that was just out of central Arusha, thank goodness because the first shuttle wasn’t very nice. We got seats and our big bags were secured on top of the bus and we waited until it was full before leaving just after 8.30. We got to the border and it took a long while to get stamped out of Tanzania, almost everyone had to get their finger prints taken and a photo of them taken before the stamp was given. The process into Kenya was much easier including having to get a visa. It ... read more

Next morning we got up early, had our free brekky then got a cab to the bus terminal to get a bus to Moshi. Dario told me to stay in the car which I was very happy to do since we were bombarded with touts, and im so over touts! He went off to look at the buses and buy the tickets, they tried to charge us 38000 each, when the ticket itself says 25000 so we paid 25000 for Fresh Coach (we had never heard of them, and had been planning on taking Dar Express, but the next one wasn’t for hours), and it was comfy enough. We only broke down once, and only for about 10 mins very close to Moshi. We got a taxi to our hotel called Twiga Home, just outside the ... read more

The view from the train was pretty amazing, rolling hills, forests, villages and farmland. We seemed to stop very often, it was the ordinary train not the express. There were lots of little villages, but since we were at the back of the train all the people selling things on the side of the tracks would run down the train to sell things to passengers. Wehad bought most of our food in Kapiri Mposhi so didn’t need to buy much. We did however occasionally buy a meal from the train restaurant. Because we were in first class, a man would come along for each meal and take orders, then bring them to the room for us. The bar was a few carriages up the train between first and second classes. It was just a few lounges ... read more

Africa » Zambia » South Luangwa » Kafunta Lodge August 1st 2011

Next morning we were up early and walked to the bus stop to take a long distance bus (we had reserved tickets the day before) for 85000 Kwatcha each (about $17) to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, its also the transport hub of the country. At the time of writing it was about 4800 Zambian Kwatcha to the Australian dollar but we always rounded up to 5000 for ease of counting. Lusaka is busy and dirty and not very nice!! We arrived in the afternoon and walked to Flintstones backpackers (previously kumoboko backpackers) and stayed the night there in an overpriced room (150,000Kw) that only had a bed in it, plus the bathrooms next door had no shower or hot water. We needed the internet and dinner so we asked where to go and they told ... read more

Africa » Zimbabwe » Victoria Falls July 17th 2011

We had to wait in a line that didn’t move for ages at the Zimbabwe immigration and eventually got out of there after an hour and a bit and paying $30 per person for the visa. We drove to Victoria Falls (that’s the name of the town next to the falls on the Zimbabwe side) and had lunch at our hotel, Adventure Lodge. The adventure team then showed us a video and explained all the activities that are possible, including white water rafting, bungi jumping, riding elephants and walking with lions. Unfortunately for us, all of these were prohibitively expensive. That afternoon Patrick drove us all to the Victoria falls park entrance and we all said goodbye as he had been told to drive the truck back to Swakopmund by Monday (it was Saturday) in ... read more

Next morning we were up early, had the included brekky and took a taxi to the Safari hotel where our tour was supposed to leave from. Once on the truck with 2 germans that were also waiting for the Nomad truck, we filled all the forms in and everyone introduced themselves. The truck had started in Cape Town and we were just along for the 8 days to Vic Falls. Unfortunately someone got their wires crossed and the truck then went to chameleon to pick us up!! So we wasted $60N to get to the safari!! Then we were told we couldn’t stop in Windhoek CBD to take out and exchange money, so we only had about $200 Namibian left.
