Last weekend, Dan and I flew to London to join the fighting and get a free pair of sneakers…..just kidding! We had planned the trip to London some time ago and it just happened to coincide with the London Riots of 2011. Luckily, I think most of it had stopped by the time we arrived and apart from seeing a few dodgy people walking around in new trainers :), you wouldn’t have known that anything had being going on. We arrived into Stansted airport via our Ryanair flight at about 10:30pm and proceeded to wait in the long queues to get through immigration. It seemed like every tourist in the world had just arrived in London and this was soon confirmed the following day by the number of people with cameras wandering around when we got ... read more

June was a busy month for us, hence the delay in updating our blog. The first weekend in June, we had our first visitors from Australia, Megan and Michael. It was so nice to be able to show someone from home our new home, our new town and a little about our new life in Denmark. On the Saturday, we headed out into the main street to find it was the yearly Assens flea market. The main street had been closed off to traffic, so we wandered up and down, looking at the wares for sale (and buying a few things, like my funky red clock), letting our visitors stop to chow down on some Danish hotdogs, visited our favourite Cafe Cupcake for a good coffee and cake (of course!) and then continued to wander through ... read more

I never thought I would ever have had the opportunity to go to Middle East, but in late April I had the chance through work to go to Iran, Dubai of the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon. I think I was the only one in the office to actually agree to visiting these places, but I’m glad I did as it really is an eye opener to visit these countries. On Easter Sunday, I headed to Copenhagen Airport and flew via Istanbul in Turkey to Tehran in Iran. There are certain dress rules in Iran, so before getting off the plane, I had to cover my hair (not completely, but it is the law that women cover their heads) and of course I’d made sure I was wearing appropriate attire (long sleeve shirt, trousers and over ... read more

Just a quick blog update to share with you all some photos from our wedding day in September last year. It was a small event, with just our immediate family. We had the legal marriage ceremony at the Brisbane Registry Office on George Street, a few glasses of Champagne at JoJo's in the Queen Street Mall and then dinner at the Zen Bar in Post Office Square. The funniest things I remember from the day, was trying to sneak out of the apartment to get to the city for the ceremony without anyone seeing us (Megan and Michael) and finding out that the Zen Bar had moved our requested table from inside to outside cause they had a huge speed dating event with 100 attendees (Amy suggested I go in and give them some tips)!! It ... read more

Hi all. It's Dan once again writing this blog. We are enjoying the Danish warm weather at the moment. Most days have been sunny and warm with temperatures around 20C. As Jes mentioned in the last blog, I started work at Interacoustics almost 2 months ago and I'm very happy with the way things are going. Because of this, I now attend evening language classes in the city of Middelfart (don't laugh), about 45min drive from Assens. Jes has recently been on a work trip to the Middle East and she will be writing a blog about that soon. We are finally starting to book weekends away starting with Oslo in 3 weeks. Looking forward to that! Yesterday we spent the day at Egeskov Slot (Egeskov Castle) which is located in Kværndrup, approximately one hour East ... read more

April 21st 2011

Spring has sprung here in Denmark and all that fertilizer is really stinking up the place! But I’m guessing we’ll soon start to see vegetables and whatnot growing in the big open fields. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our trip to the Ukraine which was supposed to happen last week. My work trip got cancelled and it was no longer ideal for us to head over there with having to take time off work and with really expensive flights for me etc. It’s a real shame, but hopefully we’ll be able to make a trip there some other time. We do have some very good news though……Daniel got a job……at Interacoustics….so now it’s almost like a family business :) About 3 weeks ago, Daniel was asked to come in and have a meeting with one of ... read more

Today, Dan and I celebrated knowing each other for 1 year....amazing how time flies and how many things have changed in the last 12 months for us both. We are finally settled into our new apartment in Assens and we love it! Just today, we were sitting on the couch, having some lunch, watching some TV and it really just felt like we were at home.....so nice! Firstly, our new apartment.....we got the keys the Friday night before last (26/2) and started moving all our stuff across from the “Blue Note” bed and breakfast house on the Sunday. It took a few trips throughout and lots of cleaning, but we left the B&B clean and tidy, and then had a mess to contend with here. On Saturday 27/2, we were at IKEA at 9am on the ... read more

It's Dan here writing this blog... First, a quick update on what I've been up to: Fyrtøjet (Tinderbox) is a cultural house for children located next to the Hans Christian Andersens museum in Odense. The place runs a theme for 2 years at a time and in January they were due for a refurbishment for the new theme “The little mermaid”. I had the opportunity to work with some very talented and friendly people for the final week of the 3 week job. During that week, I was busy with some woodwork and metalwork and helping in any way I could to get things ready. In these photos you will see a few things that I contributed to. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the amount of work and effort involved was quite amazing. ... read more

It feels like not a lot has happened since Christmas, but I guess that is because we are living it every day. Daniel and I started looking at apartments after Christmas and on 5th we found a place and decided to sign a lease on it straight away. It’s in the main street of town, above an Italian Restaurant and across the road from a small supermarket....so all our food needs are covered :) It’s about 100m2 in size, has a nice big kitchen, separate dining room, lounge room and 2 bedrooms. There’s also a small balcony that looks out over a garden area where the restaurant has seating during the summertime. We are now counting down the days until we can move in on 1st March. On 7th January, we had the momentous occasion of ... read more

January 2nd 2011

Firstly, I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and Happy 2011 to everyone! Dan finally made it to Denmark on 21st December, luckily without the hassle of being stranded somewhere due to the large amount of snow that hit most airports in Europe. A lot of the major airports, including London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris etc were closed for almost a week, so it was good thinking when we booked him on a flight that was direct from Singapore to Copenhagen. The only hiccup was when he arrived at Kastrup airport, the doors to the cargo hold were frozen shut, so he had to wait a couple of hours before he got his bag. Nevertheless, he made it to Odense by train and we met on the train platform, in a somewhat non-Hollywood- film like ... read more
