The Apartment Asia » Japan » Tokyo
Hello all. We are sequestered in our tiny apartment by driving rain and wind, so as we stared at the walls we thought it might be fun to update our journal and talk about a few things. First, we want to let everyone know we have recovered from Brad and Jennifer breaking up. It was tough at first, but one day at a time. One day at a time. Really, we wanted to write about the apartment itself so wherever we live in the future we will know that no matter how bad it gets, it probably won't be as bad [View Full Entry]

Ringing in the New Year Asia » Japan » Tokyo
Happy New Year! Happy new year everyone! 2005. Now that all my payments are online I don't have to worry about writing "04" on my checks well into March. After a great deal of deliberation, Jen and I wound up at an Irish pub in the heart of Tokyo. It was one of the least Irish Irish pubs I've ever seen, but they made a nice effort. All the deliberation came about because our last train home was leaving at 11:42 PM and the next one wasn't until 5:30 AM, so we could either stay out all night or go home [View Full Entry]

Merry Christmas Asia » Japan » Tokyo
Merry Christmas and happy holidays! We hope everyone has a wonderful day! Jen had to work on Christmas day! Can you believe it? But we had a very special first Christmas together anyway. We watched the OC Christmukah episode as well as Christmas Vacation (jelly of the month? it's the gift that keeps giving the whole year!). We still have It's a Wonderful Life waiting in the wings. No Christmas Story this year (you'll shoot your eye out!) but we saw it 5 or 6 times last year on TNT so that's OK. We exchanged some great gifts and had a [View Full Entry]

Monday Asia » Japan » Tokyo
(Jen writing) Well, the weather in Tokyo is finally starting to get pretty cold. I was really enjoying the unusually warm winter that came as a result of so many typhoons this year. Jeremy and I decided to bare the cold and explore in Shinjuko and Sabuya. These are two of the trendiest spots in Tokyo. The city is currently lit up in preparation for Christmas and New Year's Day. Christmas is celebrated completely differently here. It's celebration style is a unique mix between New Year's Eve (to Americans) and Valentine's Day. There are a lot of heart light decorations and [View Full Entry]

First Impressions: Japan Asia » Japan » Tokyo
........So, big news from the States. My best friend Lisa is newly engaged and newly pregnant! Congrats to Lisa and Anthony! For those who don't know Leese, I met her when I started at USF. We were in the same grad program and worked right next door to one another. We bonded over the insanely delicious cafeteria food that USF serves and have been best buds ever since. She is already calling me "Uncle Jeremy," but I have proclaimed myself as unofficial godfather so I can go around doing my bad Brando impression. I can see Jen cringing now. So, yay [View Full Entry]

Adventures in Eating Asia » Japan » Tokyo
Jen made chicken cordon bleu recently, and to the best of my memory I have never had that-not even at Wendy's. The first bite was great but when I looked inside it was really pink. Now like George Costanza, I have eaten food out of the garbage before (not as bad as it sounds-it was on top in aluminum foil-that's OK, right?), so a little pink wouldn't usually bother me, but I thought Jen would want to know, so I told her the chicken might need a little more cooking. She told me the ham was just the color it should [View Full Entry]

Leaving Korea; Conclusion Asia » South Korea » Busan
Jeremy: We arrived back in Busan from Singapore around 8 AM and didn’t do much because of sheer exhaustion. One of our fellow teachers had been kind enough to offer up her apartment for us and she planned on staying with another teacher. We found out that she altered her plan and had decided to stay in our old apartment even though there was no electricity. She moved some of her bags down to our old place and went to work. Late that night, she frantically knocked on the door. She was semi-panicked and said the code to our old apartment [View Full Entry]

Singapore Interlude Asia » Singapore
Jen: We had dealt with a lot as we were preparing to say our final goodbye to Korea. Now, moving is always guaranteed to be a great time, but I can tell you for sure that nothing compares to an International Move. This in itself is more than enough to cover several journal entries, from carrying 6 huge boxes several blocks to the post office (where they speak no English) to the continuous episodes with our lame director. However, we feel that it is best to save some of these stories for our return. Jeremy: I was quite a site [View Full Entry]

Happy Thanksgiving Asia » Japan » Tokyo
We are sitting in Japan at 11:20 PM, celebrating Thanksgiving . We are surrounded by ham, mashed potatoes, carrots, corn, salad, macaroni and cheese, and sponge cake. It is a gourmand's delight! Although we are saddened we cannot partake in the Thanksgiving ritual of watching football, we are starting our own Thanksgiving tradition of catching up on The OC. Now that Ryan and Seth are back where they belong, we are eager to see what soap operatic themes will unfold in season two. Anyway, you [View Full Entry]

Our Final Time in Korea Asia » South Korea » Busan
Leaving Korea Part 2 Jeremy: Immediately after we put in our 30 days notice, we headed for the old Silla capital of Gyeongju. (Jen: Getting there was in itself quite an adventure. We had called the English tourist line to find out the best way to get there. We were told we could take the express bus to Nopo-dong where we would catch the next bus to the capital. This would save us about 40 minutes time and we were in need of all the extra time we could get. We stood waiting in front of the line for the 2002 [View Full Entry]
