Sauti za Busara and More

A few weekends ago a handful of teachers decided to jump on a ferry to Stonetown for a few days where there was an annual Swahili music festival going on, Sauti za Busara. Some excellent bands coupled with the now familiar frustrations of Africa made for an overall great weekend. In fact, I hadn't planned on going to the festival mainly because I had not booked a room, so on Wednesday night my friend Christy and I sat in Cody and Nora's (Nody) apartment where I was berated into calling a few places. I have just (2 weeks ago) returned from my first real vacation in Africa, and what a great vacation it was. While the school-sponsored safari and trips around Dar were nice, nothing really compares to getting out and exploring a country for yourself. The set-up... most of my friends here were scattering around on various trips, either to the States for weddings, Zambia for elementary education conferences, or Zanzibar to learn how to SCUBA. As none of these applied to me, I floundered around a bit not really wanting my first Africa vacation to be solo, until kindly my friend Emma agreed to forgo a jaunt to Bangkok and take a random trip. Mumbai and More

As the weekdays settle into a routine of physics, physics and a little chemistry, my past two weekends have provided plenty of adventure. So I'll spare you the school-related drama, or mostly lack there-of, and skip right to the more interesting happenings. A few weeks ago now I replied to an e-mail from our IT administrator asking if anyone wanted to go on a quick morning jaunt with him. Early Saturday morning (which is often an oxymoron for me) I met him and two other teachers as we drove over to the domestic airport, climbed into his personal aircraft, and took off for an exploration of Tanzania from the sky.
