| 12th December 2008 Murray Homes | Grapes will soon be in season - From: Mango season! Hi Julia, You guys will soon be home and should start thinking of new season grapes!! The good news is that our Rio Tinto shares went up 20%. The bad news? Daniel was one of the 14.000 workers who lost their jobs with R Tinto. Rio pulled the plug on a new iron ore mine that Dan was helping to design. Lots and Lots of Love Murray and Ruth |

| 20th August 2008 Philnsonja | Congratulations! - From: The Other Samoa Hi Julia and Ed, I have been following your blogs for a couple of years now, ever since we first ventured into the South Pacific. What a wonderful life you have, and it is so refreshing to see that you don't take it for granted. Your blogs have been wonderfully informative and your photos are stunning. Keep the blogs coming. We have been to only 3 Pacific Countries sofar but intend to keep exploring another island each year if we can. Best Wishes and congratulations again! Sonja |

| 14th February 2008 Kathie/ | Not Guilty - From: Visitors galore and Australia Day Eduardo - I did not write that about your hair (even though I thought about it). It must have been your sister, or a very dear friend. I would not be so rude. |
| 13th February 2008 Sugar | Yobbo! - From: Visitors galore and Australia Day Dear Eduardo. You need a haircut so seriously bad. That is gross. Jules what is he doing? LOL. Ed, your kids are going to bag you out about these photos sometime deep in the future. :-) K |
| 7th February 2008 Marek | whats your skype name - From: France part 2 - Woolly mammoths and rugby Hey Ed Hope all is well there in the tropics. HAs it been wet? La nina is pouring her heart out here after el nino left. Sydney is rainy and wet non stop and Erica thinks australian summers are a hoax I invented to get her down here. Waves have been insane though and I was wondering if I could pick up that xanadu? Also what is you skype name I was hoping to give you a call and say gday. Everything is good here. Erica is well, at a job interview today for a publisher. Crossed fingers. I am searching too but have to focus on getting my boardshorts dry as I have been influenced by the evils of surfing. Hope you guys are good how has everything been? Cheers MArek |

| 30th October 2007 marek | pina coladas - From: Wild Thang, you make my heart sing... Hey guys. gday, ed thanks for the email. Looks like life is treating you guys like a coconut. tough, hairy and well traveled (you Ed!) but the experience inside your world is priceless I am sure. I have been a bit out of the blog-sphere but will make sure to send more info now. I hope Samoa is prooving to be as good a time as Fiji. Julia hopefully your getting some good rugby contacts to make the next world cup but with another team! Let us know how the european travels went. In fact i have to call and say gday. We have skype as well so I will try and call during your work day Ed. Me back in Oz and enjoying no bags lliving on the beach in Manly. We have a nice place by the water that you guys are always welcome to stay at if you are here. Settleing in and realizing that world travel experiences don't always translate to the experiences you know;home. But Erica is enjoying and so am I. Still looking for work in the enviro sphere. Mixing it up with the other graduates for a foot in the door. Something will come of it though. Hoping to see a polynesian pacific sunset soon. all the best guys, love the wild thing. It would go great in Cabrammatta!!!!!!!!! Ed what would be the best way to get a hold of the 7'2? Also I am working in a surf store to pay the bills. Do you need anything for over there? Hope the waves are good. Cheers MArek |

| 28th September 2007 Tanya | Im jealous - From: Bizarro World You didnt say where you are working in Samoa but I notice you worked for the rugby union in Fiji, should you bump into the Hi Po manager for the Samoan rugby union, Peter (an Aussie) and his wife Heidi and daughter Amelia say hi from me!! We spent 2 1/2 years living in Samoa and I still miss it despite having spent the last 8 months living in Singapore! |
| 25th September 2007 Simo | Dangermouse.......!!!!! - From: Snorkelling is hard work Tremendous Shirt Eddie, simply tremendous! I found another DM tshirt in byron before i left and was willing to pay top dollar for it and the asking price was a well tremendous $10! Happy days indeed. Will give you a comprehenisve run down on my adventures soon. There are a bunch of videos and photos on my facebook but will email you guys soon! Bula Vinaka Simo |
| 13th September 2007 Mika and Sabella | - From: Snorkelling is hard work Hi guys, Looks like the pacific moves on. Strange work situations, weekends away and dress up parties. I'm constantly thinking of the warm Pacific while being in the cold Andes. I guess you can't have it all. We did manage to see Fiji beat Japan in the world cup today though. Although they nearly managed to lose the match. Keep up the blog guys. |
| 30th July 2007 Kevin | - From: Snorkelling is hard work Looks awesome guys! Geez Ed - I'd love to know exactly how you packed for Samoa. Umm let me see... sunscreen, swimmers, insect repellant..oh yes, and my Danger Mouse shirt, how could I forget. |

| 12th July 2007 Erin | Can't wait to come sleep in the princess bed! - From: Home, Sweet Home Guys, looks terrific!! |
| 6th July 2007 charlie | great blog - From: Moce Fiji... although I'm a seasoned traveller and getting on a bit, reading travel blogs are a great way to get a feel of the country. makes planning your trip less a shot in the dark. Planning your trip can be as much fun as doing it, so thanks bloggers for taking the time, to write down your travel experiences. onon |
| 4th July 2007 Lucy | - From: Bizarro World Wow stunning pictures. I am getting excited about the possibility of coming to stay. Jules, I have fallen off your new blog alert email list. Can you please add me back in on: jeff_lucy@hotmai.com Ed - got your voice message on Skype. Unfortuantly we were out. Give us a try another time or we will try & call you. xx |
| 29th June 2007 Kathie/Mum | Make up my bed - From: Bizarro World It all sounds great although the locating of Ed's boss would help. But perhaps he's just asleep somewhere like the chap in Fiji D of E. Had to google Bizarro and now feel so daggy and old that I wasn't acquainted with the phenomenon before. Have fun. House pictures please! |
| 27th June 2007 jt | Afio mai o le Samoa - From: Bizarro World Glad to hear you're settling in just fine. Already I'm green with envy. Apia Park was under construction whilst I was there so I didn't get a chance to see the Manu Samoa play there (although they did play a NZ provincial team elsewhere in town). Also, a word of advice: if you're worried about your hair, don't go to "Looks 2000" which is on the ground floor of the Immigration building (next to the cinema). It's a shocker! Lalomanu is a beautiful beach but do make the effort to get over to Savaii. Manase (on the northern edge of the island) is quite beautiful too. |
| 8th May 2007 jayscoh | re: wedding inspiration - From: Pillows, pillows and more pillows Don't worry Rachel, I'll rustle up some of those fantastic pink frilly pillows (about 50 or so) and get them sent over to you in time for the wedding! Definitely avoids the hassle of having to go through and select a gift list... :) |
| 8th May 2007 Rachel aka Bridezilla | wedding inspiration - From: Pillows, pillows and more pillows As a connoisseur of the British wedding magazine market, I am delighted to have fresh inspiration for both the outfits and the gift list. Matching outfits are clearly a must. And we only have two pillows in our house at the moment. What were we thinking?! |
| 6th May 2007 jayscoh | - From: Pillows, pillows and more pillows Hi Ruth - loads of ideas! How long are you thinking of coming for? And what sort of holiday are you after? - i.e. seclusion, lie on a beach, culture, activity, walks, all of the above etc. I can definitely recommend Taveuni as a good mix, or also the mamanuca and yasawa island groups for a good relaxing island holiday. Ovalau and Levuka, where we went with Kathie, are great for something a bit different also. |
| 3rd May 2007 Ruth Homes | Pillows - From: Pillows, pillows and more pillows A fascinating wedding story. We think we might come to Fiji around August. Any ideas about where to go? |
| 3rd May 2007 jayscoh | Re: toberua - From: Taveuni Thanks John! Looking forward to seeing you soon when I get back. |
| 3rd May 2007 johnss | toberua - From: Taveuni love your blog on Toburea. Saw Dad last week. They obviously enjoyed the visit. Ends. |
| 23rd March 2007 jayscoh | Re: Hey - From: Same same but different Hey Al, salt plains sound awesome, I'll have to go some time! As for rugby league in Fiji, rugby what? It barely even exists. I did actually know an aussie guy who played on a local league team, but that's the only time I've ever even heard mention of it. Everyone here is just obsessed with union, and more so the sevens for some reason - I think they love the showiness. |
| 23rd March 2007 Al | Hey - From: Same same but different Hey Jules, Just read your blog here in Chile. Have been in the salt plains of Bolivia for the last 3 days, awesome scenery. Anyway, I have a rather random question for you. As a Rugby League fan, and one who takes a close interest in the international game, I just wandered if there is much tension between rugby union and rugby league in Fiji? Cheers, Al |
| 12th March 2007 Laura and Rich | The "other" divers - From: Best Day Ever Hi Julia, remember us? Two of the "other" divers. I promise the photos are worth the wait. As soon as we get ourselves sorted having moved to Sydney a week ago I promise to send them on. Can you send me your email address please as I'm sure we've got it in the backpack somewhere but who knows where. Say hi to Ed for us. Laura and Rich (the crazy welsh guy) |
| 16th February 2007 Kathie | WOW - From: Best Day Ever Can't even contemplate swimming with such creatures! Perhaps I will have to shed my snorkel and goggles and summon my courage..... Even I learnt something this Blog - we'll see you soon, Julia. That will be great. We'll get Baby Jasper into his Bula shirt to greet Aunt Julia!Hope you get lots of Frequent Flyer Points for all this. |
| 29th November 2006 Lisa | Reviewed!!!!! - From: Heading home, and then home again! Who reviews my comment to see if it is worthy??? Now that is strange. If you only get this message from me I have been censored. And my other message was better than this crap one. |
| 29th November 2006 Lisa | Scary tears - From: Heading home, and then home again! Hi guys, It took danielle ringing me in tears this evening with the news of a helicopter crashing whilst evacuating Aussies from Fiji to finally get back on to the blog. I was fairly sceptical from the start and thought I would watch ABC before freaking out. Great to hear you haven't joined the army and be reassured that you are both well, no-one is being evacuated, and someone is re-stocking the chocie biccies supply (though with a potential crisis coming shouldn't you be stocking up on tea?). I am glad you guys are having fun in your jobs even if the idea of you chaperoning fijian rugby players around is really strange. |
| 6th November 2006 meryl hyde | Thanks - From: Argey-bargey in Fiji Hi Ed and Julia great to hear you news. keep safe . Love Merylxxx |
| 4th November 2006 leonie | Happy to hear - From: Argey-bargey in Fiji Hey Julia, Thanks for the update. Am no longer at MM but have dropped into your blog occasionally and was somewhat concerned at the latest news. Not getting major coverage over here, especially Central Coast, but had voiced concerns to Lyn regarding your situation. Take care. |
| 3rd November 2006 Kathie | Eclipsed by a coup - From: The work-sleep relationship…a bleary distinction Was gearing up to add a terribly clever and amusing comment to this blog entry when Cranky Franky pulled the rug out from under my feet. Nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed the long-awaited description of life at the DOE and hope that nothing untoward, such as a bloody coup, wakes the sleeping giant for very long. |
| 27th October 2006 teenie | what's wrong with sleeping? - From: The work-sleep relationship…a bleary distinction ed' the sleeping guy isn't really sleeping--his airways are being slowly strangled by the creeping triffid or hibiscus plant around his middle and he is getting recurrent lack of oxygen. A more sobre shirt might help. LOVE the pose with the map--Did you know that Geography is the new English and there is a move to make it compulsory in Year 12 ( a small move by dedicated geographiles---is there such a word?---i suspect) This pic could be used in their marketing campaign I'm going back to sleep-----Iain is already there Cheers |
| 26th October 2006 Murray H | And there is a good life after work . - From: The work-sleep relationship…a bleary distinction Ed, Tell your mate that if he works hard he will be able to retire at 60 and sleep all day!! We have Emma and Stanley and the kids with us this weekend . We have just purchased a new boat so we will go boating tomorrow on the bay. Ruth will be 60 on the 21st of November and I am hosting a party @ the sailing club. Kathie is fkying down from Sydney . Expecting about 50 people so it will be fun . |
| 7th August 2006 Amy | London just can't compare.. - From: Another blog about food Hi julia and Ed, just read the last 5 entries or so to get a catch up on what you have both been up to. Sounds fantastic! Congrats on the rugby job julia, should be good to go home for a bit. I will still be here in london otherwise would have loved to have seen you. Keep the blgs going, i love the photos. love amy x |
| 4th August 2006 Lisa | I want to come and eat your food!!!! - From: Feasting Fijian Style I have been struggling with internet connection too but finally have it so instead of merely reading your blogs and e-mails covertly at work I actually have time to add a comment. Cooking with banana fronds looks fun but don't try this at home kids because it is too expensive! I love that a couple of your blogs are about making or buying food. That's the cookie monster we know and love! |
| 3rd August 2006 Kathie | Love your work, Julia! - From: Feasting Fijian Style Now I don't feel so silly about being cold in Fiji! It will be great to have you back on home turf, Julia. In the meantime Edward can write us a blog entry in his inimitable style. |
| 1st August 2006 Teenie | HOT LIPS!! - From: Feasting Fijian Style Puts you off the collagen implants in the lips doesn't it! Now we know (for those over 50!) that Hotlips Hoolihan from the original "Mash " series has been reincarnated as a fish! I will never complain about all that preparation for an interesting stir-fry ever again. What a feast! If you think that I am going to start digging up the garden when you return Julia, think again!! Lotsalove |
| 21st June 2006 Nicola | Fantastic Blog - From: Diving at Bounty Julia, what a fantastic blog. You took me away for a moment when describing your island getaway. The I680 freeway noises diappeared and I could almost smell the salt air. Thank-you. Ed good choice on staying at Bounty the 100 bed dorm sounds an absolute nightmare in my book as well. Im still yet to convince Neil to take me to an island and stay in a bungalow on the beach. Maybe one day. Love Nicola |
| 9th June 2006 Murray and Ruth | Ed with Beard - From: A pox on plastic bags! Ed we ilke the beard but what does julia think ? |
| 5th June 2006 Simo | Borris to Manuel and beyond! - From: A pox on plastic bags! I will indeed agree with the comments about Julias fantastic command of the English language!Awesome work jules i always look forward to your entries. Although i must stand up in support of the red headed genius who is giving us a global tour through his facial hair. First we had Boris from germany, now Manuel from Mexico.......whose next Ed and from what part of the globe will he be from?! Maybe its my inability to grow my own facial hair which is making me throw my support behind your exploits! Hope all is well kids and i will be making my way to fiji ideally in January with a bit of a crew potentially! Take care!!!! |
| 2nd June 2006 Mum/Kathie | Ditto on the mo - From: A pox on plastic bags! Thanks Julia for your lovely account of everyday life in Suva. I'll arrivet n 2 weeks with several recycling bags to give it another go! And as for that red-headed extremely budget person in the photograph - looks worse than when he was dressed for his "Shock Your Mother" 21zt birthday party. |
| 1st June 2006 MUM | ENVIRONMENTALIST PRIZE! - From: A pox on plastic bags! Fantastic that you are trying to reduce the plastic scourge! Try stopping the smokers in Madrid---probably just as hopeless LOVED your blog and donīt love the Mexican Mo! What fun though Julia, you write so well I get a fantastic picture of your life in Suva What a talent---must come from the female side!!! LETS ALL JOIN IN THE PLASTIC BAG BATTLE |
| 1st June 2006 Nicola | Fabulous diary and photo's - From: No coups yet... Hi Julia and Edward. Loving reading about your experiences, Neil and I honeymooned in Fiji and loved it especially Fiji time, your island photo's certainly took me back. Felt Suva was dodgey when we were there (for one day) but we stuck out and yelled TOURIST so were targeted, but I remember the 2000 unrest so keep your head down. Love your business attire Ed nice and breezy. Lots of love Nicola |
| 18th May 2006 Uber the Guber | Lose the beard! - From: No coups yet... Unless 'strawberry blonde' beards are a way of fitting in with the locals, whats the deal with the beard? Nice one skirt boy. Stoked to hear that you scored the job with the FRU Juls. Very jealous about the holidays you guys seem to go on once every two weeks. I counting three? 'holidays' and how long have you been there for? Geez, garie really ain't that good when you see those photos of Batiluva... Good to see those photos of your house of dwellings! Next I would be liking to seeing foto of food of eatings, show me the roti! DGD |
| 18th May 2006 Murray Homes | Demcracy- Fiji = Style - From: Settling in E and J. the navy is still in Sydney Harbour so all must be well in Fiji. Murray |

| 11th May 2006 Murray Homes | What a great experienc - From: No coups yet... Hi Julia, Hi Edward , Yes I would keep off the streats until things have settlrd down after the election. Loved your house and laughed alot when we read that you are into Rugby . It might be the beginning of a new career path !!!! We are heading off to sydney soon to check out Kathie . We might even go north with up the coast . We are off to the Greek Isles i September. Murray xxxxxxxxxx |
| 11th May 2006 Kathie/Mum | Fabulous work, Julia - From: No coups yet... Have just realised that I've congratulated you via Edward, Julia, but not directly. It's marvellous news about the AYAD position. Well Done! It will be pretty weird to come home for orientation in Canberra and hear everything you know so well. I'll give you a peg for your tongue! What's the latest on getting internet accessat home? Your island weekend sounded fantastic. Keep a list of things you want me to bring, won't you. |
| 10th May 2006 jt | Congrats on the placement - From: No coups yet... Hi guys, Nice work scoring the gig with the FRU. In the latest intake of AYAs here, the basketball development officer now finds himself working with the SRU a few days each week. He's loving it; the IRB's High Performance Unit initiative really seems to have a lot of potential and there's a lot of momentum behind it. I have no doubt you'll have a great time. Nice work! That said, I'm fully expecting Samoa to wipe the floor with Fiji in the upcoming Pacific Five Nations tournament. ;) Batiluva looks great. A question: is it safe to bodysurf those waves? There's not a single place in Samoa I know of where you can do that and not have your stomach ripped open on reefs. Sounds like you're settling in nicely. The photos are great. - jt |
| 7th May 2006 Murray Homes | Bula Bula to you - From: Bula Fiji! You are now in our favourites and we will watch with great interest your great adventure. Love MurrayXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX |

| 25th April 2006 jt | Welcome to the Pacific! - From: Bula Fiji! Hi guys, Sounds like you went through an experience at/leaving the airport quite similar to my recent one. I don't think we had UB40 but it was something very close. Glad to read that you've already hit the beaches and started snorkeling. Looking forward to more tales of (mis)adventure in Fiji. |
