05-April-2008 (Day-1): Coorg - or Kodagu as it is known by kannadigas is a popular destination for weekend retreat from Bangalore / Mysore / Mangalore. It is different from other hill-stations in a way that it provides a lot of opportunities for home-stays. Halli Mane Homestay: We also chose one such home-stay called Halli Mane (Halli = Village, Mane = Home). The home stay is located in Khushal Nagar (30 Km from Madikeri) and is a nice location in the middle of a farm. It would have been better to be in the middle of a dense jungle. The place might be difficult for people not going through their own vehicles. It is approx 2 Km from the town and the road is mud road. There are total of eight rooms in the building. Good things- ... read more

Kumar Parvat 19-20 November, 2005 The following conversation in the food-court was observed yesterday (Scene: team-gypsy & a few others are seated at the luncheon table): H: Bete! How's your leg now? V: (He)Ma! Those three cramp-tapes and iodex-spray ka pura bottle khali kar diya - no results :-( B: STVO! Aaj mein library (level-1) se book le kar stairs se niche utraa ... AruNaru looking at B with mixed feeling of envy & astonishment!!! And a thud from the background might suggest that someone fainted and fell from the chair ... though we are not alluding to the subject. Well, that's the trek KP. A great trek in itself and equally tiresome. Guys from Mangalore & Bangalore started almost simultaneously for Madikeri. After a brief hitch due to the KSRTC bus breakdown didn't hold the ... read more

I came and stood here a lil far from the lake for quite some time. 'Ominous' is the word, I would like to depict this place & time with. Or that's what I thought for some moments. It's surprising how my mind changes opinions (or rather gives second opinions) about the surroundings once I get an appropriate adobe over the comfortable branch of a huge tree of this Jungle. Nay, this is not written by any ape - coz, obviously you would say that an ape can't write English. All Right! Let me clear out some of the confusion by describing the place and time in a lil more precise way. I will start with time; it is 1538 Hrs, 09-JUL-2005. The place is a National park (forest reserve) called Bandipur National Park (BNP), in Karnataka ... read more

Hullo There! We had three camera in our last trek; this album is from one of them. The other two albums I'll send in the coming weekEndz. pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/prashantjanis/album?.dir=/6c20 Have a look at some of the later snaps - with calf of an elephant and all that exciting stuff. Kamlesh with baby-ele (see the photo) Essentially our tour was devided in three logical parts: 1. Hard-core trek - Thadiyendamol - Highest peak in Coorg! 2. Visit to an elephant training camp called Dubare Forest & Resort. 3. Visit to 'Nijyang' (I'm not sure about the name) Monastery. 1. Trek was good but the climate was very hot. You can say "who asked you to go for a trek in middle of March!" But then that's how I'm - "Spirits high, flesh (might be) weak". We started at ... read more

Hanumaan-Gundi, Kudremukh, Lakya Dam & Malpe Beach. KudreMukh is the name given to a peak of a mountain for it shape like a horse-face (kudure=horse & mukha=face). Hanumaan-Gundi (Gundi=pit/hole) When we started from Infy All we have planned was to visit these places called Kudremukh & Hanumaan-Gundi. At the end of the day when we returned, the story was very much different and exciting. All in all we visited five places - HanumaanGundi waterfalls, Kudremukh Park, Lakya dam, Bahubali temple and Malpe beach + resort. We started at around 8 in the morning. After the round of mock fights for the window seats settled down, we started the breakfast round! If it would have been just idli-wada then I would rather avoid mentioning it here. But the hot halwa provided us the energy for singing, yelling ... read more
