Quite possibly one of the hardest and most physically demanding activities I have done. A bunch of the exchange students (10 of us total) took a 7 hour bus ride over to Mt. Fuji the day after school ended. Our goal: to get to the top of the mountain!! We started the day off early, having to get to the bus station by 7 in the morning, which meant getting up at 5 to make it on time. From Osaka, we took a long bus ride towards Tokyo and finally arrived at Mt Fuji at around 5 at night. We grabbed a quick dinner and then started on our long trek. The weather, despite it being hot and humid in Osaka, was pretty cool here. We took the bus about halfway up the mountain and started ... read more

As I mentioned before, I have joined a volleyball circle here in Japan. For the longest time I did not post any photos of the group, but finally I got around to taking some pictures. We had a tournament the other week and actually did very well. It was a 16 team tournament and we entered two teams - a girl's team and a boy's team. It was an unfair tournament style system that immediately eliminated teams if they were to lose. Simply put, if you lose, you're out... that's it. Our girl's team was extremely strong and we had high hopes for them but since the girl's teams also played the boy's teams, they were elminated in the first round. This is because they played an extrremely strong boy's team. If the seeding were different, ... read more

Well everyone, I'm terribly sorry that this post has come so late. I have been constantly busy with school work and the little time I have when I'm not doing homework is devoted to volleyball. I have neglected my duties to report back to you, but I will give it my best shot now. The last time that I wrote in this blog was during midterms. Those went well and I have scored high marks on all the ones that I took. Japanese language, Japanese Art, and Japanese Society were the classes I've had them in so far. The rest will either have one large cumulative test or project at the end of the semester. Class has not been limited to only indoor work however and I have gotten the chance to travel to a ... read more

Midterms

So I finally finished my Mid-terms. It took a while to study for them, but now they're over and out of the way. The only one I've gotten back so far was my Japanese Language one and I scored a 94% on that one. Pretty happy with that grade so we'll just keep hoping the other ones turned out like that one. As for the temperature, it's finally starting to get hot. Before, it would be hot for maybe a day or two but then it would rain the next day and be freezing. The randomness has finally worn off and it has started to become an ever increasingly hot oven. The randomness was nice because it allowed us all to cool down over here, but now it's time to start wearing different clothes and ... read more

4/24 - 5/12 Yeah... I know.. I'm sorry I haven't updated in a long time.. but it's been crazy with homework. The biggest thing was a lecture I was supposed to give about the Japanese Contemporary Economy and I ended up having to do a lot of research to cover the time requirement of 90 minutes. I've never given that long of a presentation for class.. so it was a little strange and tiresome to have to do all the prep work for it. It turned out okay though and I managed to fulfil all of the requirements and the teacher seemed happy so yes.. Though that took a lot of time though, it hasn't been all work. I was busy enjoying some vacation time for something called "Golden Week" over here. It just so happens ... read more

4/16 - 4/23 Sorry that it's been a week since I last updated, I've been pretty busy with homework. I have to give a 40 minute presentation in my Japanese Business class and preparing for that has just drained me. The lecture is on the Japanese Contemporary Economy and I had to read a lot of books so that I could understand what actually happened in the past few years. Anways, it's been crazy and the other homework has been pilling up as well but at least I had a few fun things happen this week. Letsee, the beginning of the week was quite drab. Nothing but classes and reading books, but Wednesday, I met with my Japanese partners and we talked about various things. It's good practice and they are both extremely nice so I ... read more

4/13 - 4/15 Let's see, Friday I had class again but this time it was a special class. It was Japanese class, not one of my elective classes, but it focused strictly on speaking. It is a Japanese class where the whole time we just speak Japanese. I found it to be very straining, but probably the best practice I've had since coming. I can tell that Fridays are going to be interesting and I just hope I can keep up with the teacher. After class though, it was off to the Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi Station to go meet my Uncle and Aunt who were visiting from the States. They live near me in California, but they travel to Japan every year to visit family and such. I made it to the station just on time and found ... read more
