South America » Bolivia » La Paz Department » La Paz September 20th 2008

Greetings from LaPaz,Terry and I are sitting in the internet cafe with a stunning view of Lapaz out the window - it is hot and the air is thin. Clare and I caught up with sleep last night, she had 12 and I had 10. We all had an early dinner and crashed. Sleep has been in short supply. But never mind what have we seen so far is stunning - In Santiago we had a stroll, bad meal (really soggy chips) and then returned to the apartment. The apartments are great so when we come back in a month it will be good, the homeless in Santiago have a better standard of living than at home , there is a bridge over the motorway close to the apartment and at the entrance to the stairs ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Auckland » Mount Eden September 17th 2008

Hi folks, this is the last entry for NZ, the much awaited trip is about to happen (some would say - thank god!). Packing is complete for CRIPTS 1 and 3 with CRIPT 3 carrying most of the gear - Clare's bag looks nice and slim where as mine is twice the size. No more money needs to be spent on essential travel items such as new hats, more rechargeable batteries (because I have put my spares in a very safe place - so safe they still cant be found), enough pills to almost start a pharmacy, etc. The next money spent today (apart from alcohol at the airport) will be spent in Santiago! Well today is FOE2SA day - yahoo - so next entry from somewhere is South America!... read more

A brief Itinerary (No doubt it will be corrected by the officious oops I mean official tour organizers CRIPTS 1 and 2): Very soon after our arrival in Santiago (18th of September) we go to La Paz (very early flight). We have three days to acclimatize to the altitude before we then head off to Puno. On to Amantani Island and if we are lucky sometime around Puno and Amantani Island we may catch up with Robyn (CRIPTS No 1 and 3’s daughter). She will already have been to Machu Pichu so Robyn will be able to fill us in on the details. It is then back to Puno, then Cusco and at last a little walk up into the hills, this walk starts on the 25th and takes three days to get to Aqua Calientes. ... read more

South America » Peru July 21st 2008

Greetings, this is the first post for the CRIPTS tour, so who are the CRIPTS? Clare, Ruth, Ian, Peter, Terry and Sheena, not a gang but a goup of friends (some would say mature) off to South America for 5 weeks. Clare and Ruth have done most of the planning - alright all of the planning and they gave me the job of setting up the blog so our family and friends can follow our travels. We are ready to go - we need to so we stop buying important travel items such as new bags, clothes, important toys such as a hand held GPS (with maps for Peru, Buenos Aires, Montivideo and if I can get it installed Santiago). An important milestone was reached today - we had to pay up the last of the ... read more
