Hello Hello :D Nice to hear that you've visited Bahrain! Just to clarify something, we don't hate Americans. We know that the people have no say about one man's disturbed views of freedom and justice. Anyhow, just to clarify something, the long, white dress that men wear is not Islamic nor does it relate to Islam in any way. It is simply a traditional dress that men in the Gulf usually wear.
Peace..
what not to wear hi... sorry it took me a while to respond... honestly, i was there very briefly, so it might be better to ask a local what to wear/what not to wear... however i felt comfortable wearing an ankle-length skirt and a loose-fitting top WITH sleeves (showing shoulders is offensive in many asian countries). hope that helps :-) enjoy your trip!
tips Hi there!
i'm 29 y.o. american, planning a trip to bahrain this summer. any tips, suggestions, or precautions you would like to share in regards to countries culture and customs? i read your experience and you mentioned that as long as you wear conservative clothing you are good. anything i shouldn't wear???
SORRY TO HERE YOU HAD A BAD TIME IN BAHRAIN...I LIVED THERE FOR 3 YEARS, AND LOVED IT,YOU PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH, AND YOU WOULD HAVE FOUND FANTASTIC DINNING PLACES, AND THE NIGHT LIFE IS GREAT, THE TOWN COMES ALIVE AT NIGHT CAUSE MOST OF THE YEAR IT'S TO HOT TO DO ANYTHING DURING THE DAY. NEXT TIME YOU HAVE A LAY OVER,GO TO MAYBE WWW.BAHRAINTHISMONTH.COM AND THEY HAVE RESTAURANT AND HOTEL INFO. AND GO TO JJ'S-BJ'S IF THEY STILL EXCIST...AND COCO'S CAFE HAS THE BEST SALADS...WELL HOPE NEXT TIME WILL BE A BLAST....
Homesick-shmome-sick Youre not missing too much here missy - just a gray, cold world and lots of schoolwork! I did however make peanut butter balls which is quite exciting. I love making lists of the food Ill eat when I get home whenever Im far away. Its really a great way of passing the time.. I usually do it from A to Z (a - apple crisp, B - buttered popcorn, C - chocolate truffles ... and so on!) ... If youre wondering why my comments are all backwards its because I read your blogs from present to past. Dont ask me why. Im almost caught up.
Youre adorable! I must say my favorite part of this whole thing is the description of your new toothbrush. Youre so cute! The combination of the egg roll debacle and the spitting of the red-blood looking ickyness makes this the cutest blog ever.
Mangosteen is one of my fav's too, and this one looks mighty good! amazing pictures Mr jeff and amazing story telling msssss Laura, the white tiger is a BEAUTIFUL PIC!!!!!!!!!! I have to say you havent help me in my decision making as whether to visit SG or not.... hmmm more time to think i guess!

Water and electronics don't go together! Dude you are one crazy mo-fo trying to get some good shots by standing in the water. The rocks don't look to be slippery but that pic of you with the camera on the rocks looks like a wet camera waiting to happen! Be safe and have fun!
Peace

Thai Ahhh...Mr Suit reminds me one of our guide in Ayothaya (ancient capital of Thailand)....my friend and me wanted to leave the tour in the middle or wanted cotton to stuff our ears !!!
and yeah the ballon man expressions are hilarious :)
Wow Wow Laura ... these pictures are so amazing.. props to Jeff as always.. Your stories are so fun to read ... they dont make me envious however of those four hour bumpy car/truck rides ... ive been on enough chicken buses in mexico and south america to understand how bad they can be :)
we wish that too... unfortunately, the cheap ones don't work scuba diving (they can't go past a few feet deep) and we can't afford a deep-water one! but believe me, we want one... maybe some day.
Laura's Travel Blog
Jeff and I just hit a great fork in the road--I just graduated college and the grant for his non-profit job has ended--so we figure it's a great time to travel. We're spending a moment in Amsterdam and Bahrain before heading on to India, Nepal, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Indonesia, for a total of 11 months of travel.... full info
