Day 4 cont. bit of a rest at 'The Granites' (another big gold mine nearby) as it is hot and then onward to Refrig. bore another 50km. Arrive there about 9pm - dark but beaut. moonlit night, still red sky - magic - quiet - desert still Find the bore with fence around it -'non drinkable sign' - taste it - yuk - highly salty - but wash my hat in it and it goes dead stiff Well what now, 1/2 L of water left. Have to press on to Renahans bore - another 50k - which i make about the turn of the day - and flop down asleep in a sandy mitre drain -peace and rest. Bloody dingo annoys me during night trying to pinch my gear and making throaty noises - not sure

Day 2 Woke ok, but nurse insisted I rest today and shoved ano drip in me Had real good day at Billiluna meeting people, ended up doing a few repair jobs , cooked dinner 4 my host and prepared bike and self 4 next day is an Ab. Community of about 100 and support staff Day 3 Took off at 5.30determined not 2 overdo self but tanami mine was my long aim where I was booked in Nice country used a lot of perseverance and rolled into tamimi at 8pm - 9.30 central time. Dark 4 last 2 hrs but gibbous moon ok wow-steak and salad and a good shower and bed Dingo ran along with me for 10pm -big mine Day 4 Fixing bike and showen around mine -bike and rack rattling 2 pieces -
... read moreD bus @ Halls Creek @ 3.30am away @ 4 on dark, dark night, slowly till dawn, lost road a few times. Avg 15/20 kms during day on good & bad roads. Later in day have to make Billuluna shop - hotter 35c & hurrying. Am very weary & very heat effected. Arrive shop @ closing time & collapsed. Came to in the drinks freezer, shaking, sweating & muscle spasms. Next 3 hrs @ nurse station, tests & drip. 170Kms for the day. Now Tuesday morning - OK - good. accommodation & sleep was good. Attached picture of my setup Bike is my old GT Zaskar mountain bike from Ro and Sydney Olympics. Put hard smooth tyres on it and a pannier rack. "Hold together girl" Note the small solar charger on a panier. My comms will be whenever and however i can get a message thru, but plenty of opportunity. Have a wi phone, and abo settlements all have mobile coverage, tanami mine will have phone or internet, and a friend has told me that if i can get within 30m of the microwave towers that cross the desert can get some reception. ... read moreval decided we needed a good holiday together and we arranged to go on a yacht cruise off the kimberley coast from broome well that is going to cost a bit. bugger me, she has worked out that we can fly there, afford the cruise , but only enough brass to fly one of us home. Well , what can i do. Worked out that i can catch a bus to halls creek, then will have to ride to Alice (what this blog is mostly about), and she has booked me a flight from Alice to Melb. But guess what - on Tiger - might be more riding. So am getting organised now. Taking my old mountain bike, travelling light, oh and she booked me out of Alice on 14th Aug. which only gives me 6
