16TH DECEMBER 2011 - Barcelona We stayed at the Mirror Hotel Barcelona which was a small but trendy boutique hotel situated in Corsega, just minutes away from Las Ramblas. If you like the minimalistic type of design where everything is designed using white or mirrored surface – this is definitely the hotel for you. The only issues I had with this hotel – 1. see through shower (especially if you share the room with a friend); 2. technical problem with the lights – the lights in our room could not be switched off and had to be reset from the main switch board every night. Our best meal in Spain was our lunch at Cinc Sentits. It is more of a fine dining restaurant but the food and service was impeccable. The rest of ... read more

4TH DECEMBER: Azaya Villas, a beautiful sanctuary I would highly recommend staying at the Azaya Villas in Mae Rim, Chiang Mai. It is located about 40mins away from Chiang Mai airport and 30mins away from the city centre and the night markets. We stayed in the 4 bedroom villa which is very modern with a touch of Balinese influence. The layout of the villa was practical and conducive for family bonding. There is great outdoor space with your own private pool, garden, bbq pit and pond. All bedrooms have attached private enclosed space leading to the garden or swimming pool. My bedroom overlooked the swimming pool and the whole ambience was luxury mixed with comfort. I have to commend the service. Thailand in general spells great ser... read more

1st February 2011: Singapore – Nagoya - Takayama I love Japan simply because the connectivity between cities is so convenient. We arrived in Centrair Chubu International Aiport, strolled to the Access Plaza, boarded the Semi Express Train which departed punctually at 8.45am. Caught the Hida Express JR and arrived at Takayama Station right on schedule. It is only in Japan where I can pinpoint exact arrival time despite having to change 2 or 3 different modes of transport. It is wise to pre-book the return bus ticket to and from Shirakawago as some of the scheduled times require prior reservation. We left our bags at Oyado Koto no Yume and hopped onto the Sarubobo bus which dropped us off at Hida no Sato – the open air Folk Village. We were completely taken aback at how ... read more

12TH SEPTEMBER: ARRIVING IN BANGKOK Arrived in Bangkok for a night of transit as Druk Air only departs from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Aiport at 6.50am in the morning. We arrived at the airport on time and passing through immigration was a breeze. There was a shuttle bus which operates 24hrs and it took us directly to the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel which was only a 3 min drive away. Hotel was less than 2 yrs old, had a glass frontage and a very contemporary and open Lobby which made it very welcoming. The fittings of the rooms and corridors were less impressive than the lobby. Very tacky and cheaply made. Staff was hospitable. 13TH SEPTEMBER: FROM BANGKOK TO PARO The alarm went off at 4.30am. I always feel queasy and ill whenever I had to wake ... read more
