Wow! Fun, fantastic photos and... look at you! Crazy creature factoids abound!?! :) What a fun trip. And the boat, too, btw... wow.
Thank you so much for sharing this.
love your blogging I am enjoying reading your Ecuador blogs. Love your writing style. Best I have read so far. How did you travel within the country, bus? How was that? My wife and I are going to Ecuador Feb 1 2011 for more than 2 months. Wasn't thinking we would go to the GI.... but after reading this... maybe we will. How much was the 8 day boat ride? Would you fly to GI instead if you had the money? Any other info about places you stayed on your trip that you liked a lot, and not too expensive would be helpful. Our 2008 blog is at mytb.org/williamandchristina

Hola Happy Gringa Hi Jen, just caught the end of your blog. Glad you got the full meal deal on your way out. I've got to give you little grief here, you missed the equator!! the real line is a little farther up the road and down a dirt side road. Carlos my professor took me there one morning and we passed the park you visited en route. The actual equator spot is a little recreated indigenous village. Guess this came about with satellite measurements etc..
I'm planning on heading back to Quito for a bit then to Buenos Aires and Bariloche. I may put my house on the market since I don't need a big family home and it would definitely simplify my travel timeframes. Kinda take a page from your playbook in that regard. Lately I've taken in 3 little orphaned kittens which is amazing. Your mind sync with the Andeans at the airport is in ways is similar to what these little kittys have to share. They're maybe 5 weeks now and getting to be a hoot.
Take good care and all my best for your Seattle adventures.
Tim
I wanna go! Oh, what a wonderful tour of the Galapagos animals and birds...Jen, if you ever get tired of ER kid doctoring, be a nature writer!!
I think my favorite is the blue-footed booby -- for its name and its sky-pointing.
No wonder this was the highlight of Ecuador!!
Galapagos and more!! What beautiful pictures! I'm so glad you chose to go on your break between jobs! Lots of wonderful memories while you are working!
It sounds like you made some wonderful friends! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your pictures with naration from you!
Does it feel wonderful to be back in the U.S. of A??? Welcome home!!
Love you!
YAYA
You make me wanna go there!!! Wow, is all I can say. What a trip! Wondrous sights...I can't wait til Sept. when we get to see more pics and hear more of this adventure!
So glad you're coming home after all these weeks in Ecuador. Time to start your new life!! Can't wait to give you a hug!
bring ye cable car can u get that cable car engine man to set up his gig to zoom me over Seattle traffic into downtown?! After you do that I request one of those colorful open air trucks in which to cruise around town. =) That looks like a fabulously fun place to spend 5 days!!!
When we were growing up in Asheville, we would go on bike rides and break off sugar cane growing, and chew on it all the way down the mountain. (We rode into Tennessee and biked on coaster bikes-- no gears) Thinking of you biking!
Thanks for sharing Hi Jen, we had dinner with your Ma and Pa last night to celebrate Mary's birthday. They were telling us of your travels while we caught one another up on all the latest news about life and kids. So glad that you are sharing your experiences via blog. It's almost like being there. Have fun and enjoy the adventure. Dan
Have a wonderful time! It's fun to read about your trip. What an amazing experience! We stayed at your parents home a week ago and will see them at our house next week. Our children...the travelors! John goes to Japan on August 14 and was in Stockholm, Sweden in April. I look forward to hearing more about your trip.
God's peace,
Mary and Darrell
Serious Happiness I'm feeling some of that serious happiness as I read and peruse your pics...what a colorful people and lovely natural scenes.
Those typical hats worn by the ladies remind me of the hat worn by Georgia O'Keefe living in New Mexico. Can't wait to hear about life in Banos...soon you'll begin your Galapagos trip...keep blogging. We love it!
Jealous! Wow Jen, I just read all your entries!! Your blog is fantastic and it sounds like you are having an amazing time!! I am so excited for you and happy i can live vicariously through you!!!
upcoming trip to ecuador I am flying into quito August 6th and staying 2 nights and then traveling to banos, riobamba, cuenca then gauyaquil, montanita. If you are up for getting together for dinner or conversation, let me know. Not sure if you are still in Quenca or if you will be in Ecuador when I am there but you seem like a nice person and loved your blog. Spent 3 weeks in Costa rica with host family and I too loved it.
Familia It warms my heart to see and hear a loving familia incorporating mi bambino (Yes, I know, my H.S. spanish is rusty).
What a great commentary on the universality of family! Yeah, the lipstick story has a moral -- having aunts around is really helpful! So, Beth, whose eye shadow was that anyway? You both made me laugh today! (You're right about kids doing that, Jen!)
Cuenca is bigger than I thought. Can't wait to hear more about your excursions and what you're seeing in the area.
I went to a blogging seminar yesterday and tried to learn something. Talk about getting stuff to stick in an aging brain! Lucky Bev was with me and I can ask her everything I forgot.
makeup art The lipstick story reminded me of when I was 5 and spilt eye shadow on a beach condo's carpet in Charleston and then hid it from Yaya, but of course she discovered it soon thereafter and I was busted. After a few minutes of me feeling extreme guilt for trying to hide the eyeshadow stain, Yaya quickly returned to her bubbly hugging self again. Glad you are feeling some family familiarity down there. I am sure they love having you around!
I LOVE THIS!! This is so much fun! I love the pics and your travel impressions...keep 'em coming!! Your "sibs" are the cutest! Love and hugs and prayers, HG Mom
HI! This is one of the many reasons that I love you so much! What a brave girl to pack up and head out for the entire summer! I had no idea you were going for so long! I can't wait to hear about the rest of your adventures! Travel safely, friend. xoxo
