As a big tv crime lover, the serie "Midsomer Murders" (in Denmark and other countries called "Barnaby") is one of my favourite programs on tv. One of the benefits with living in Britain is you get all the premieres of good British programs and also when it comes to life and particular death in County Midsomer. One of the latest Midsomer Murders had Englefield House as one of its locations. Englefield House is located only a few kilometres from Reading in a very beautiful park and is definetely worth a visit - also for people who is not a particular big fan of British crime movies.... read more

Last week, I went on the train to Newbury. My aim was to see Donnington Castle as I have a passion for old dramatic buildings and ruins... I did manage to get there but it is a 40 min walk from the railway station, more than I thought. Unfortunately I didn't get much time to see Newbury but I will come back one day and take the photos, Newbury deserves... Newbury is the principle town of West Berkshire but is probably most famous for its racecourse. The Kennet and Avon Canal, a man made canal which is 92 km long canal, connecting the River Kennet and the River Avon, flows through Newbury and together with Victoria Park the canal forms a lovely green area right in the town centre. Donnington Castle is situated just north of ... read more

The Royal County of Berkshire, widely known as Berkshire, is my residential county here in Britain. The county is called Royal because of the presence of Windsor Castle, one of Queen Elizabeth's residences. In the coming months, I will take photos of and make blogs about different places and towns in Berkshire which will show the diversity and beauty of this historic county. On my first excursion of course I went to the very heart of the shire, Windsor Castle. I only had time for a small walk around the castle so here is a taster of my adventures in Berkshire.... read more

The agricultural shire of Devon in South-West England has a long tradition of international trading with the manufacture of wool and other clothing related industries. Exeter, Devon's capital city, was started by the Romans but they didn't stay there for long. However, they did build a wall around their fort, a wall partly preserved to the present time. By the start of the 16th Century, Exeter became one of the major cities in England. Wool was traded and exported out of the country and prosperous Exeter became home for many rich merchants. Therefore, Exeter has many great buildings from the Tudor and Stuart periods. During the industrial revolution Exeter, lacking natural ressources, lost importance and wealth. During the beginning of WW2, Exeter became the target for bombing and big areas of the historic city were hit ... read more

At the moment, the big thing in Britain as well as in Denmark is to go to New York for Christmas or for other shopping events. It must be a bit crowded in New York with all those shoppers so we decided to go to Moscow instead. Moscow was far of disappointing and a very good Christmas destination. We travelled to Moscow about a week before Christmas 2007 and spent three nights there, enough to see some museums, The Red Square, Kremlin and do some shopping ... and to get really hooked on going back soon again ... It was not without fear we boarded the aircraft in Copenhagen and it was not fear for the immigration process as we have been to Russia a few times before and know the whole thing is very peaceful ... read more

London is a fantastic capital city - every part of the city have its own character and soul. A trip across the city is like a time travel with buildings from the medieval era to the most contemporary. But everywhere one sort of buildings will stand out, from the time of the British Empire. Last week I was visiting London where a small photo tour de Westminster.... read more

In August, my brother Aage and I went to Greenland for 10 days. We went to Kangerlussuaq, Sisimiut and Nuuk and it was a fantastic trip. Unfortunately for me my camera didn't like the climate up there but I did manage to take some photos and here is a selection of them. The most fantastic part of the trip was when we was visiting the icecap.... read more
