July 17 - Kingston, Ontario Canada - A short entry...It's Sturday night and we made it back. The flight was pretty uneventful, but the security at Toronto seemed heightened. They were looking for someone coming in on our flight from Paris. We arrived back to a 2 hour power outage here in the Bayridge area of Kingston. Our bathroom reno's progressed well while we were away although not finished. It looks amazing! Hopefully they'll knock the rest off this week! So now we sleep! Hal and Sherry... read more

July 16th, Paris France...Well it's 10:30 pm on our last night of our vacation. We had a great day in Paris today. We wandered the streets of St.Denis in the area of Notre Dame Cathedral. We bought a few art prints from the vendors along the Seine River. We enjoyed yet a few more cafes. My freind Herb Steacy sent me a note earlier this week and he said "it's really easy to sit and contemplate life in a Cafe in Paris". Boy, was he ever right! We did a lot of that today. We went to the Louvre but the lines were hours long, so we decided just to stroll around the gardens of the Louvre which are probably bigger than 20 football feilds. We enjoyed a glass of Paris' finest in a cafe on ... read more

July 15 - Paris France - Today was our first day on our own. No fellow travellers and no Tour Director to tell us where and when we were going somewhere, when it was time to eat etc.. Sort of like being in grade 1 where your teacher tells what to do and when. Not that we are complaining. We never would have seen or done what we have in the last two plus weeks if we hadn't been on an organized tour. Today we changed Hotels - From La Defense to Montparnasse which is at the opposite end of the city. Our new hotel is very, very nice. We are shocked at how inexpensive taxi rides are here. We made the trip between hotels for abot 22 euros. The last time we a cab from ... read more

July 14th - Paris, France...Bastille Day. Very, very rainy! We can't complain, this is really the only rain we have seen since we left 2 weeks ago. We went to see Varsailles this morning. The Palace is very impressive but it was raining too hard to visit the vast gardens they have. I guess that gives us an excuse to come back (as if we needed one!). The palace of Varsailles receives 8 million visitors a year - I'm convinced 4 million of them were ther today. After Varsailles we took the subway to the Louvre. It was very busy as admition is free on Bastille day. We are going to try to go tomorrow. The rains were monsoon like so we found a dry table under the awning of a Cafe a block away from ... read more

July 13th 2010

July 13 - Paris France. Well, we are now in Paris. We left Lyon early this morning (one thing about bus tours is that EVERY DAY is an early day!) and headed for Paris. This may sound awful, but in all honesty, the part of France we drove through today was fairly un-exciting. The countryside at times looks pretty much like Eastern Ontario and at times it looked like Alberta wheat feilds! The only thing that was interesting was that our driver ( a fine Italian lad named Raphaelo, who speaks very little English, if any!) had a difficult time starting the bus after we stopped for lunch. More on that later. We got to Paris and picked up our local guide (in the major centres like Venice, Rome, Paris, Florence) our Tour Director supplemented his ... read more
