Actually I think if the tiger would have the guts to swipe at the elephant, it wouldn't have felt it. The outer skin of the elephant is very dry and very tough leaving me to believe that it would not have felt it. they are used to crashing into the bush and getting in thickets and brush.

Those are the best pictures yet! And you even got to ride an elephant. :D Cool, wasn't it? Animals don't run away as fast when you're seeing them from the back of an elephant.

So, I'm sitting here in Wisconsin, buried under 6 inches of snow from last night, some of the local schools are even closed, wondering--how cold is cold??? The morning temp where you are would probably be a heat wave for me!!! ha ha ha Awesome Tiger photos--please tell me though that you have a huge zoom lens on your camera, or were you really that close to a living, breathing, wild tiger???

Did we forget to mention you have to get up really early to see some animals? ;) When we were in Africa we usually got up before sunrise so we could catch some nocturnal animals before they go to sleep. It didn't always work, but sometimes you get lucky. Sounds like you got lucky! Those are some great pictures of tigers. I can't wait to see the rest!

Thanks for all the pictures! Your description of the poles holding up the stairs was not as dramatic as actually seeing them! I'm amazed they haven't fallen. Smog Factor? - From: First Impressions
Is the new place a bit less smoggy? Can you at least see a mountain? Maybe you can visit these places: Robber's Cave Also known as Gachchu Pani, situated at a distance of eight km from the city center.Robber's cave is a beautiful picnic spot. On display here is one of nature's strange phenomena; a stream of water goes underground here and reappears a few metres away. The cave is surrounded by hills and is a beautiful getaway for those looking for peace and quiet of the hills. Sahastradhara Around 14 km from Dehradun is the cold Sulphur water spring called Sahastradhara. The spring is believed to have exceptional medicinal value and the dripping caves and a bath in the Baldi River near the spring are said to rejuvenate the body and soul. You can have a spa day! Just remember that all your sacrifices are for a good cause. You! One day you will look back and realize it was worth it. Based on Jen's excellent explanation, it seems there is hope. Maybe on your day off, you can get together with some other people who might be there for training or work there and go to a restaurant that might appeal to you. It won't be the same as what you are used to, but hopefully it may help a bit. btw, I linked your blog to my blog. terekawan.blogspot.com I hope you won't mind. Best wishes for the days ahead.

You're Completely Normal - From: Hitting the wall...
I was so wondering when the "I hate it here" phase would hit you! Don't worry, next week or so you will feel better. Just get extra sleep this week and lay low! Be kind to yourself! What you are experiencing is completely normal. In fact, I felt it too when I lived in Israel! Here's some stuff I pulled off the web: The shock (of moving to a foreign country) often consists of distinct phases, though not everyone passes through these phases and not everyone is in the new culture long enough to pass through all three[1]: Honeymoon Phase - During this period the differences between the old and new culture are seen in a romantic light, wonderful and new. For example, in moving to a new country, an individual might love the new foods, the pace of the life, the people's habits, the buildings and so on. Negotiation Phase - After some time (usually weeks), differences between the old and new culture become apparent and may create anxiety. One may long for food the way it is prepared in one's native country, may find the pace of life too fast or slow, may find the people's habits annoying, etc. This phase is often marked by mood swings caused by minor issues or without appoarent reason. Depression is not uncommon. Adjustment Phase - Again, after some time one grows accustomed to the new culture and develops routines. One knows what to expect in most situations and the host country no longer feels all that new. One becomes concerned with basic living again, and things become more "normal". Reverse Culture Shock (a.k.a. Re-entry Shock) - Returning to one's home culture after growing accustomed to a new one can produce the same effects as described above, which an affected person often finds more surprizing and difficult to deal with as the original culture shock. Happy thoughts! Jen

What a lovely temple! Kind of reminds me of the building you used to manage at college.... ha ha . Just kidding. Oral should have visited India for inspiration before he built the university, then it would look wierd-nice instead of "what in the world was the architect thinking here." It must be intoxicating to visit such beautiful places and to be surrounded by so many people. It looks like there are crowds everywhere. How many people live in the city where you are staying?

Wardrobe - From: At the market....
Make sure you purchase yourself a tailored silk sari while you are in India:-) The fruit looks yummy! Poor me, destined to bananas and apples for the 6-month winter, lol:-) The traffic looks a little scary! You should definately check out some Indian movies while you are there-they can be really good. After all, it is Bollywood!

I have made some Indian food at home, but never my favorite butter chicken. Make sure whatever cookbook you get has that in it! :) I might even share with you when I make it. :D Don't worry about finding the spices here. There's always the internet if we can't find it locally.

Well then... - From: Normal?
So you are becoming "native" are you? Cool! The best way to get to know the country is through the people! See if you can get some local cookbooks for the food (with lots of pictures) so you can make the food you like when you return home.

Haldiram's - From: And the winner is....
There is a large variety of vegetarian food there, and for the most part it's pretty good. A lot of the students and staff walk next door to Haldiram's for lunch. Oh! Hold on to the receipt because the school will reimburse you the cost of your lunch. When are you arriving?

Jen, - From: And the winner is....
It is pretty warm here around 22C. But it's not humid thankfully. Surprisingly India it a mix of ultra modern and old school and they are mixed together haphazardly. We do take a mini van to school and I feel pretty comfortable riding in it. But hey this is coming from a girl who hires the motorized rickshaws to get around. They are the size of smart cars.

Wow--India takes the cake when it comes to traffic congestion! Is it scary to ride in a cab--or do you walk to school? I see a sweet shop--does it have good desserts? The school building looks ultra modern as well. It looks warm there too, how nice! At night it is like 32 degrees here:-)

Hello..Thanks for sharing your travelblog. I'm planning to go to Koenig in November for .Net training. What training are you taking there? What hotel did you leave because it did not have an internet connection. Until you leave India, it is probably not wise to share name of the hotel where you are staying, but I would like to find out the name afterwards. I'll be following your blog. Good luck with your studies!
