...still in Santiago and having a good time. Met up with some friends of friends and discovered a little bit of the night life and learned more about their culture. Apparently the one Irish pub in town has a 3 day St. Patty´s day celebration, so we caught the last day of it. Still trying to get used to the change in times people go out. I was invited to dinner at 10pm and then we didn´t go out until midnight...my kind of hours, but still have to adjust. I met up with another friend of a friend and she´s been [View Full Entry]

I´ve had excellent weather the entire time I´ve been in South America (knock on wood). Santiago continues to amaze, a great city that I never really knew much about, actually a great country to retire in. There are mountains an hour north (Andes are the 2nd largest mtn range in the world). Then there are wine regions, and a beach only an hour away as well. Safety is very important here and there is no corruption like many other parts of S. America. A very conservative and laid back society from what I have seen so far. I´ll go out this [View Full Entry]

I´ve been in Chile for a few days now and it´s such a clean, safe, nice city. Similar to a new US city in some ways, but has a great South American feel to it with lots of color and history. The people have been very helpful and welcoming. Seems like a simple culture and very business oriented at the same time. Looking into apartments and jobs at the moment. The prices here are a bit more than I expected, almost similar to US prices. Argentina was by far much cheaper, but not nearly as safe and clean, so I guess [View Full Entry]

I left the big white fluffy snow of Boston, on a 2 hour delayed flight, to NY and onward to Buenos Aires. A friend who I had met 7 years ago In London (and kept in touch with) picked me up at the airport with 2 of her friends. It was a 30 minute drive into the city of Buenos Aires and I soon discovered the Argentinian driving style....or lack ther eof. It´s crazy, there might as well be no lines or lanes on the road, cars just weaving in and out, driving so close to the car in front that [View Full Entry]

Home for a few days to meet up with the fam and see some friends. Made me miss New England a lot, I drove from Boston to NH in a complete snowstorm which was really pretty and then of course everything was crisp and white in NH with the new snow everywhere. I went skiing and realized how much I missed that too, such a great way to spend a day (and with great friends too ...thanks Pete and Jane). Unfortunately Jane took a spill, so I thought it was only polite to do the same, but I took it a [View Full Entry]

Hawaii 5-0 North America » United States » Hawaii » Oahu
Spent a few days back in my hometown (for the past 4 years) of Honolulu for some last sun and fun. Also some pics of a day trip to the windy island of Lanai. After Hawaii it was onward to visit Brother and sis-in-law in the friendly city of Minneapolis, back to Boston and NH adn then down to South America. attached is a picture of a last night out at the prestigious "Da Dawg House" dive bar in Waikiki with dancing and pool tables...and a random dude in the picture of me and Josh. The other picture is of the [View Full Entry]

Hong Kong Fog Asia » Hong Kong » Hong Kong Island
Arrived in Hong Kong through a cloud of fog so thick you could barely see 20 ft in front of you. It reminded me of my first arrival into Kuwait, I couldn´t see a thing, and the next day you feel like you´re in a completely different place when you can actually see something. Anyways, so Hong Kong was a little more honky tonk than Japan...as expected(at least in Kawloon). Side streets that make you feel like you´re either in the movie Rush Hour 2, or some Van Damm movie running through the alleys. Then only a few blocks away there [View Full Entry]

City of lights... and video games Asia » Japan » Tokyo
Japan was great, Laurie and I really got a great feel for the city and found the people to be so friendly. Not nearly as many people spoke english as we had expected, so a phrase book and suggestions from a good friend who spent a year there(thanks again Marisa!) really helped. Besides almost burning my hand on the hot water dispenser thinking it dispensed Soy Sauce, and then eating god knows what at some resaurants because nobody spoke english and there were no pictures to chose from, we did well not knowing mutch english. Although Laurie got a little better [View Full Entry]
