| 28th January 2008 Joey | Looks like fun - From: January Trip to Cardiff, Wales This reminds me of when I was in Wales! I like the story about you driving on the wrong side of the road. Your back seat driving is bad enough in America! I pity the poor sap who has to drive you around in the UK!! |

| 21st August 2007 Madge | What a trip - From: Family Reunion All of you look so happy. Looks like a lot of fun. Wish we could find a way to get together. I spent a few days in the hospital but that is over now. I could really use a good change of scene. Frank is going back to work soon and I am missing W-B believe it or not. My mom is in the nursing home now. Had to do it. The pirate ship must have been a lot of fun. Great family. Gailey looks a lot like your mom. |

| 25th July 2007 qian cheng | miss you - From: The journey home hi, susan, i am Linell's friend. sorry for not saying goodbye to you as i were in shanghai meeting my aunt then. i hope everything is going on well with you. Best wishes for the summer. |
| 8th July 2007 Carla | One Divides into Two - From: The journey home I totally get this concept and am experiencing it right now. I am so excited you are back home (so sorry you caught a cold--summer colds are the worse! If you need anything don't hesitate to call me.). But I'm torn because I have so much enjoyed living vicariously through you with your blog entries. I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one. Your photos and entries are top notch. I feel lucky being on your list. When you get settled and feeling better I will catch you up on all the happenings in the Smith home. Most recent, we just got a new baby on the 4th--she is 1 year old, has 4 feet and weighs 80 lbs. Yes, she is a dog. We adopted her from friends who couldn't take her to Africa (long story). I have lots to tell you and am getting more excited you are home! |
| 7th July 2007 Mary Morris | - From: The journey home I'm so disappointed to hear that we won't be able to see you again in Nanjing! I truly enjoyed our trip to the antique market and eating in that little restaurant in the pedestrian area. I hope you will continue a blog here...or elsewhere...and let us know how you are! Mary Morris (& Doug, Gwen, Lydia, waiting for Samuel in Changzhou, and baby due 12/23) |
| 7th July 2007 Linell | Re-entry - From: The journey home Sorry to hear that you caught cold but glad to hear that you made it. Now you have to adjust to your American life which is subtler but about as disorienting as adjusting to life in China. What I do is soak up the sensory experience of being in the US: the big trees, the empty streets, buses with empty seats, driving a car, blue sky, avocados, beets, walking barefoot in the grass, reading a newspaper, etc. etc. Take it easy. |
| 6th July 2007 Margaret and Howard | Welcome home! - From: The journey home We're so glad to know you made it home! Now we'll be so glad to see you at Central on July 15th. Caroline is back from her 3 months gone and will be preaching that day. Hope you get aLOT of rest and get rid of that cold/cough/etc. With love, |

| 26th June 2007 Joey | Who's that idiot goofing around at the Great Wall? - From: Traveling with family Mom, my favorite animal exhibit was the tapirs. You never see that many tapirs at an American zoo! I didn't even know they came in more than one color, either. Don't forget the highlight of the tripp -- SPIDER-MAN 3!!! You can't see that in America. At least, not with Chinese subtitles. |
| 25th June 2007 Gailey | - From: Olympic news-short, no photos The pushing info reminds me of other places I've been... I do think Brokaw is correct, the world is like Jr. high!!! |

| 25th June 2007 John Miller | It will be good to see you - From: Traveling with family So glad that you and the boys and April had a good time together. Guess Don & Jordan and Alexis & Ryan had little control over seeing you ... they were in a UF-sponsored tour group |
| 11th June 2007 Mary Morris | Great photos - From: Jiansu Province Kun Opera Sue! These are wonderful photos!!! I hope your sons and DIL remembered to bring you a salt shaker! ;) Mary |
| 6th June 2007 Gailey | - From: More spring in Nanjing Magpies are common in NM, too - at least where I lived! Here I just see crows - but only sometimes (whew! if it is true they bring bad luck)... Your narratives and photos are always so wonderful in telling of the the things you see and do. |
| 29th May 2007 Dwight St. John | You need a wider audience! - From: Jiansu Province Kun Opera Your photos are astonishingly good for a live and dynamic performance! And the abundant information that accompanies them serves as an ideal introduction of kunqu to an American audience. |

| 26th May 2007 Nan Orrock | awesome - From: Jiansu Province Kun Opera You are getting so much out of this trip. I imagine that doing the blog helps you really focus on everything really closely because you are planning to share it with us! I just returned from 10 days in England but the plays in London's West End don't have the flash of these opera pics! |
| 26th May 2007 Nan Orrock | great pix again - From: two quick trips to Shanghai/Pudong I liked Shanghai - and the main street along the water - with the old European buildings. | 19th May 2007 H Romaine | Nanjing and Nashville - From: More spring in Nanjing It's alarmingly cool here too. Dolly Parton and Porter Wagner are back together at the Opry. WSM650. Next weekend I'll be in Atlanta, visiting friends, and church at Oakhurst Presbyterian, and reunion with Great Speckled Bird folk at Tom and Stephanie Coffin's...how shall I signify for you? What's the country or rock scene like in Nanjing. Can you recall the Maoist faction in misdirection in Atlanta protest? Did the death of the 'Christian fraud' Faldwell make headlines there like here? Soon we'll all join them in that cold earth, And only flowers will testify to our passage here, Flowers called children, and flowers of errant spring. You couldn't have picked a better place to plant them, than Nanjing!!! Best travels, Howard Romaine |
| 19th May 2007 Amy | Great journal! - From: More spring in Nanjing Thank you Susan for this wonderful documentation! You have a knack for capturing people and places in your pictures--love the picture of father and son reading. How fascinating to hear of your teaching at the police academy. Looking forward to more. |
| 19th May 2007 Mariana | spring - From: More spring in Nanjing I think you're having a great time! I love to see the pictures and read about what you're up to. You looked cool in your red jacket with the people in blue behind you. |
