Ok, this is going to be big. I´ve got a week´s worth of stuff to write about so i´ll try to keep it concise. Also i´m dedicating this one to all those who did Geography at school, specifically cold environments people, Mr Lemoine included, as i am now literally THE Big dog of seeing glacial stuff. I was all like "why hello lateral and terminal morraines forming barriers to the corrie lake or tarn that sits infront of the frost shattered back wall covered in scree". Anyways: The week has been amaaaaaaaaaaazing, although the name of this place is slightly decieving in that I have so far not patted any gonias at all. First tings first, Monday. This was the day of the visit to the Perito Moreno Glacier, which when translated means the Glacier of ... read more

Our time in Buenos Aires has come to a close. We didn´t do a huge amount on our last day, I got my phone sorted finally, we went to a modern art museum and packed for our flight the next day. The flight down was pretty good, they seemed to just give us endless free drinks and we even got a small cardboard box with some biscuity treats inside. Having said this, the champagne oyster consome was sub par and the braised condor was absolute garbage but over all it was pleasant. The landing seemed a tad speedy. Our descent compared to a normal one is similar to going down a firemans pole compared to a slide. It was all good though and we landed safely in a vast nothingness by a lake. They call it ... read more

I told Will not to open the big red door in the basement of the hostel. I said to him ´Jinkies Will it doesn´t look safe, it gives me the spooks´, there were ´no entry´ signs everywhere, but he had to have a look, and I felt I should accompany him. We went through the door, past some coats, through a random snowy land with an ice castle and a faun, and now we´re in Uruguay. Will´ll tell you we took the ferry after a change of plan so as to escape the hustleybustley BA for a relaxing minibreak in Colonia del Sacramento, but he´s lying. I´m glad we did go through that red door though. Colonia is really really nice, its an old historic port set up by the Portuguese with tree-lined cobbled roads and ... read more

Tango is a carbonated soft drink sold primarily in the United Kingdom and Ireland and from 2010 in Sweden, Norway and Hungary as well, first launched by Corona in 1950. Corona were bought by the Beecham Group in 1958, and Beecham Soft Drinks were bought by Britvic in 1987.In Scandinavia the drink is distributed by SMX Drinks AB. So as you can see I´ve Wikipedia-ed Tango and I honestly had no idea that the show we saw in La Ventana Tango bar was a carbon... read more

I realise I haven´t written anything on La Boca, a district with El Caminito and all the colourful houses and what I suspect might be the birthplace of Mr Blobby. We visited this on the Sunday, passing the Boca football stadium as we went and... (look, let´s be honest, you´ve probably all read Will´s more detailed post on La Boca already. Like 4 days ago. I´ve completely missed the boat on this one and I apologize if you feel as if you´re being backtracked. I honestly won´t be insulted if you close your browser right now. Go on, do it! If you do want to carry on reading then thank you, I won´t let you down. Now where was I?)... yes, La Boca. It´s very colourful. Although if I´m being honest, although it was genuinely great ... read more

The first bit of this title is a more frequent sight around Buenos Aires than the second, and the second part is actually more of a smell than a sight. Firstly the mullets. They're just everywhere! I've noticed the same in Spain as well. I'm struggling to think of a reason why it's such a popular hairstyle. My theory is that the hairdressers have no vision below horizontal and so just cut the top half of the hair. Maybe I'm just being culturally ignorant. The urine is just a minor thing we've noticed in the odd area here and there. We often just suddenly get snippets of wee-smell from time to time and I thought it was worth mentioning. Of course 99% of BA is urine-smell free so don't let this put you off. Today we ... read more

March 3rd 2012

Ok, i'm just going to have a another quick rant, I realise my last post was fairly ranty and don't get me wrong i'm having an awesome time i just thought parts of this evening were rantworthy. Basically, I've lost my phone in a club called Crobar. Or as I prefer to think of it, my phone was stolen by a gang of devious bandits that go around clubs stealing phones that are worth about 5 pounds (there's no pound sign on this keyboard) with global SIM cards in them that barely work so as to fill up their swag bags and legitimize the wearing of black and white striped jumpers. In summary, I believe my phone was stolen by a team of Burglar Bills (famous childrens character). On a positive note, the music was pretty ... read more

My luggage finally arrived at the hostel, I was incredibly relieved to see it behind the reception knowing I could finally get changed, have a shower and just generally be in possession of belongings. I like belongings. We´ve had a relaxing day, meandering up and down Avenida de Mayo, getting the lowdown on the best eateries/drinkeries/lowcosteries. We had our first experience of people trying to scrounge/steal money off us. Seriously, it really annoys me how moronic they think we are (this was a group of young men by the way, not homeless, wore reasonably nice clothes, sitting in a group), we were sitting in the Plaza de Mayo, enjoying the shade and they come up to us and start shaking our hands saying stuff like "brother, my friend, how are you?" Look, I am not your ... read more

Weve arrived in Buenos Aires! My luggage failed to do this unfortunately, its still in Madrid. But it is being delivered to the hostel today so it just meant that I didnt have to carry it from the airport which was quite nice, a continuation of the business class experience i guess. The hostel is pretty cool, there was a party going on as we arrived, standard Milhouse apparently. Under the bridge has just come on the speakers and Im now reminiscing about house singing. Plenty of tango (not the drink), steak and looking at multicoloured buildings to come.... read more

Ok so business class is officially ridiculous. The only reason i'm writing stuff this early into the trip is because, due to the surreal brilliance of the Iberia club lounge, I felt compelled to make a note of how awesome it is. Every single room has free food of some sorts. In the corner of my eye I can see bowls of Kettle Chip packets with buckets of wine underneath them. There is a completely unmanned bar in the next room. I could get extremely drunk at 6.15 in the morning if i wanted to. I won't, but I could. We've just had the buffet breakfast and I'm currently using the free internet to write this. Shortly, I'll go to the lounge's theme park, followed by the champagne swimming pool before boarding my plane made of ... read more
