Nong Khai Yes, we stayed in Nong Khai...but not the township. After a three day ride, on a scooter, from Chiang Mai thought we'd be clever and stay close to the Bridge for the next morning's border crossing :( http://strayandsnap.blogspot.com/2010/12/visa-run-day-3-loei-to-nong-khai.html#more
Sorry for the late reply...your blog doesn't seem to have the option to be notified of new comments?
pictures and lanterns love the pictures. ok, please tell me you looked inside those laterns to find out how they were lit up!
and why aren't these new entries on the page with the old travel blog?
not so same same oh ok, we didn't know you could pay in baht. what happened in your Thai hotel? were you in non khai? we didn't sleep there, so didn't search for a place to stay.
Same same but different I did nearly the exact same thing as you, but a couple of days later. However, I paid 1300 Baht for my Laos visa at Friendship Bridge...not US$. I've heard that US$ is a must if you arrive via the airport. Stayed at the same hotel...yes, lacking bleach and a scrub, big time! Paid 650 Baht I think? So with you on the ' too tired to search for anything else', we struck the hotel from hell on the Thai side of the bridge.
And While you're there, I think you should learn how to make the spring rolls and dipping sauce and the carved drink ornaments... looked like a beautiful goldfish!
So interesting Loved this entry and the fire in the street and the woman with the groceries. And the fact that you can get a gravestone carved in the street.... guess you could build a fire and cook out while you wait.
we only saw the gibbons for about 5 minutes after we walked up the side of the mountain...they were hooting like crazy, but the only one we saw was the one with her baby and she swung around quite a bit before settling on the branch in the pic.
