Two days ago, Shortstop left Montreal. Even though the things that come out of her mouth are fucking retarded most of the time, she’s an amazing friend. My best female friend up here in Montreal (more by virtue of the fact that 99% of McGill girls are dumb, skanky, white Toronto girls), we’re pretty tight. And I’ve gotten used to her brand of humor—saying retarded things is probably a great way to spice up the biting, witty sarcasm that most of my friends employ. After spending a whole Sunday at Tam-Tams, drinking with Trini-Boy and then running into some friends [View Full Entry]

This week has been a blur. Last Friday me and D-German hosted a party at our apartment where we gave hamburgers to everyone and they brought beer, we got a little drunk with a select group of people, met our ginger haired Minnesota neighbor with a black grandfather, then when we were cleaning up the mess, we decided to do _______, we were up until 7am, collapsed asleep, then that same evening made dinner for Yuriko (Shortstop) and her roommate, a few days of school blurred past with a few trips to the gym, a few trips to various neighborhoods, a [View Full Entry]

We set a time and place over the next few emails: Milton Gates, 1:30pm, right after my class. Because I was all nervous and jittery, I shot out of bed as soon as my alarm beeped at 10am, instead of hitting snooze ten times and racing off to math class at 11:00. Faced with so much time, I took a shower, ate breakfast and spent two minutes choosing my clothes, instead of the usual 2 seconds. I glanced at the clock. 10:20. 40 minutes until class. D-German had left for work at 8am, so I had nothing to do. I went [View Full Entry]

Disclaimer: I poke a lot of fun about certain (outdated) stereotypes that exist about Texas (and the South in general) in this entry. If you happen to be from said location, if you happen to have visited said location or if you happen to be a liberal hippie douchebag who has no connection to said location except through the screen of your MacBook, don't take offense. I don't believe in these stereotypes and they're just meant to accentuate the hilarity of my situation. Why the disclaimer? In the off chance a Texan stumbles upon this blog entry, then I stumble upon [View Full Entry]

It was the last day. It was the last day. Holy shit. I wasn’t freaking out. I wasn’t nervous. I wasn’t scared. Just the enormity of what I was going to do later tonight was slowly sinking in. I was going to do it. I was going to fucking do it. Considering the way I had been slowly ramping things up the last 9 days, everything was in the bag. If it weren’t for some unfortunate events (like Yu fucking messing me up the night before), I could’ve easily had her signed early. But it didn’t matter. Tonight I would do [View Full Entry]

Now was the homestretch. This past week had all been in preparation for these three days. These three days would define the trip. These three days would define the semester. These three days could possibly define the year. These three days would probably have absolutely no bearing on my life. Despite its significance, Day 8 was completely uneventful. It was spent driving 12 hours from Montana to Calgary. Chiaki slept the whole ride. The end. Fuck. Ok. These two days would define the trip, the semester and the year. Day 9, I was com [View Full Entry]

Woke up Day 6 flying high. Didn’t matter that I was waking up from a cold bed barely big enough for one. Didn’t matter that my knee was still screaming in pain. My body was still warm and tingly from the happenings of Day 5 and at the pace things were going, I was already my bed would be warm by the time she threw her next pitch. But a pitch wasn’t thrown my way. Apparently tired as fuck from snowboarding, Chiaki passed out that day at 3pm. Realizing I couldn’t do anything, I decided to have good, clean, non-alcohol induced [View Full Entry]

On the first night in Montana, we drew straws to figure out where people would sleep—since Ted was sleeping in the master bedroom, the 7 of us split up into 3 rooms: Room 1: Me, Yuriko and Soon Hae Room 2: Chiaki and Shin Room 3: Yu and Yuki The problem with this setup is that there were only 2 beds in our room. Feeling immensely chivalrous, I offered the two women the beds and slept on some window ledge/couch/bed hybrid (actually I was just fucking tired and didn’t care where I slept). It was skinny enough that one (skinny Japanese) [View Full Entry]

Time to ditch Calgary, scoot across the border and head to Montana for some snow. We left bright and early (bright and early for college students=11am), loaded up into the Smith family’s fleet of SUVs and started a long, 9-hour drive. Teddy and Jayne (Ted’s mom) being the only people who could drive, were assigned driver status of said SUVs. Apparently, Yu could legally drive…but, yea. I would rather play Russian roulette with 6 bullets in the chamber than bet on Yu being competent doing anything. To keep Jayne sane from the crazy chatter of a language she couldn&rsqu [View Full Entry]

Random Road Shot 2

I wake up the morning of Day 2 refreshed after an amazing first day and a good night of sleep. Pulling on some fresh clothes, showering, shaving and then walking into the kitchen to pancakes and bacon, I felt like I could take on the world…if the world embodied itself as smaller than my skinny 5’7” frame. After breakfast (where the highlight was watching Shin construct a pancake sandwich), the fair weather called for a trip to the downtown. Walking from Ted’s house, we ohhed and ahhhed at the great view of Calgary’s skyline and started walking. Naturally, I [View Full Entry]
