Today we did a trip to see the Chu Chi tunnels. It was great to see the network of tunnels with a hospital and everything all originally under ground. We all had a go at climbing into a hidey hole-matt managed to squeeze in for a photo but my womanly hips prevented my photo-call! One of the girls managed to get right inside but we were kind and didnt put the lid on!! We had a photo taken on an old American tank too which was pretty old and rusty but still quite exciting!! We also went down one of the [View Full Entry]

water-slides and wierdos! Asia » Vietnam
Today we said farewell to Ozzy Kev-bit strange to say goodbye so soon after meeting-although it feels like we've known him for ages!! We spent our last day with Mara at a local water park about 30 mins away. It was a pretty big park, bigger than expected but with some great slides around it. It was a completely strange experience there though, we were basically the only white people in the park and EVERYONE male and female would stare, point and laugh at us-especially the girls-like we were aliens!! At first it was a novelty but after a while it [View Full Entry]

A very merry ferry.. Asia » Cambodia
Our day 12 started early at 6am.. a bit of a reminder of Matt's working days but neither of us were impressed at that memory!! Public bus journey to Saigon in Vietnam was supposedly meant to get us there for 1pm, little did we know we were in for the longest bus journey many of us had ever had! The first part of the drive was fine, arriving at the ferry road at about 8:30pm. a fairly long road, a bend and then the ferry.. sounds simple... until you add in the millions of cars, motorbikes, mopeds, buses and people trying to [View Full Entry]

A free day in Phnom Penh started fairly early with a trip to a fairly large Russian market about 20-30 mins away. A few of us went for a mooch around and bought some bits and pieces- having great fun bartering for bags and things, some really great souvenirs around so we are having to use huge willpower not to spend all our money at once!! Matt is very good at getting things for very little money so he is dealing with most of the handling!! We stayed mainly to the crafts and clothes side of the market as the other [View Full Entry]

not so fancy guest-house Asia » Cambodia
So our journey continued with a bus trip to Phnom Penh, not such a long one as we have experienced over the past few days so was bearable. We arrived to check in at the 'fancy guest-house' which safe-to-say wasn't exactly fancy but satisfied the need for sleep and a place to keep our bags. The rats running outside not so great but at least we didn't get a cockroach in our shower like some of the others!! We then popped out to a restaurant nearby for some lunch, the place we went to was called friends, which is a locally [View Full Entry]

Beaches and bracelets Asia » Cambodia
So we have just finished a 3 day stint in Siahnoukville (excuse if i have spelt it wrong!) for some chilling out on the beach. Mara started off by warning us not to go anywhere in groups smaller than 4! a teeny bit worrying but we just went along with it. Our first day we arrived and headed straight for the beach, beautiful stretch of sandy beach and sea like a lukewarm bath-perfectly refreshing after an early start!! The only downside to this particular area is the amount of children and ladies trying to sell you things. millions of bracelets, manicures, [View Full Entry]

OK so we arrived at the meeting point mega early and headed off for a sightseeing tour thanks to some random thai woman who negotiated a great price for us to see buddhas and temples etc..and typically lots of shops. We went to some of the thai clothes shops where they make suits and shirts and dresses to measure.. pity our rucksacks are already too full!! later in the evening we met the rest of our group at the hotel. There are 16 of us in total 8 boys and 8 girls. 3 australians one scottish girl, one irish girl and [View Full Entry]

Puddles and potholes!! Asia » Cambodia » North » Siem Reap
Ok so day one was a mega early start, piled onto our bus to the border. Long journey in a very small space whilst matt held onto the bags piled in the back proved very testing!! You get to know who has the ability to sleep ANYWHERE and in ANY position.. crazy! We arrived at the border after a few hours and took an hour to walk to various places to sort visas etc. The border crossing is very odd as you have to get off the bus at one side, walk through and get your passports checked, then walk elsewhere [View Full Entry]

Tomb Raider Temple! Asia » Cambodia
So our first group activity was to visit the temples. We first went to Angkor wat and angkor Thom, which were much bigger than you expect them to be despite what people tell you, plus you don't really see thgem until you are right up close as they are hidden under jungle! Lots of steps and walking around and lots of history and religion. Some beautiful photographs! Matt made friends with a little Cambodian boy which was quite amusing for everyone!! After a quick lunch we moved on to what is known as the 'mini-temple' the only temple made of pink [View Full Entry]

Silk worms and snake! Asia » Cambodia
Ok so, our activities for the day began with a semi-lie in and then we headed to a silk farm about 20mins away from our guesthouse. We had a tour through the complex watching all the different processes from worm to scarf and table cloth! very interesting but couldn't quite help thinking all they wanted was for us to buy things! The worms are huge and fat and really wiggly..bit gross!! They boil the cocoons to get the silk out its very clever!! After a brief lunch we headed on tuk tuks to the floating village a few miles away. The [View Full Entry]
