We arrived at Poovar Island Resort on the 7th, and had booked in for 2 nights at this overly luxurious resort, after all this backpacking i think i more then deserved a treat! We were so excited about coming here, and we were not let down in the slightest! As our taxi dropped us off we were nicely suprised as we were left at a boat port and found out that we needed to catch a boat to bring us through the backwaters to our floating cottage! We reported at the resort reception and given arrival drinks of coconut water (vile) and then shown to our room. As the guy was walking us there i suddenly realised we weren't heading for the floating cottages, that we had been so looking forward to, but towards the land ... read more
Hello all, Well i cant actually believe it, theres only 11 days left until i leave! Where has the time gone?? Well since my last blog, new years eve came and went, Marianne my sister had arrived by this time and we spent the evening at a few beach bars in Palolem, and then on to my usual haunt of Cafe Del Mar. This was totally transformed for the evening, i have never seen anything like it, there was literally a sea of people spilling out all along the beach, and it seemed like every Indian in the land had turned up for what they seemed to think was a free grope fest. Not impressed- although has been the most action I've seen all holiday! Bumped into Frank here, one of the guys I'd met during ... read more
Well Merry Christmas everyone, I am LOVING spending the day in the 32 degree sunshine here, and took pleasure in finding out that its only 5 degrees back in London ho ho ho!!! The last week here has been a bit up and down, had a wicked few days on my own, met some very funny people, and actually vetured out on my own to get drunk. Glad I was so brave as had such a good night. Lauras flight out was cancelled and she ended up getting here nearly 24 hours late which was a bit annoying for her as she lost a day out of a precious week's holiday. We had a bit of a turbulent week together, but at least she was happy as she met a guy that she seemed very into. ... read more
I must apologise- yet again at the huge delay in updating my blog... I just don't know where the time has gone!! Since Jo's departure I must have experienced every emotion possible while being on my own, with the majority being self pity! On Weds afternoon I got a flight up to Hyderabad to stay with the people we met here in Goa. I was a little nervous as obviously I didn't know these people very well, and they did invite me when they were absolutely pissed out of their faces.. but after a few emails and phone calls I decided to be the true littlest hobo that i am and just bite the bullet! (well to be fair I didn't have any other plans!!) Manisha- the wife met me at the airport and we drove ... read more
hello again after a while, We arrived here in Goa two weeks ago now. Initially intending on only staying a week and then heading down to Kerala- the sun, cocktails and AT LAST fellow English speakers kept us totally hypnotised here! Not too much to report in the last two weeks, Im quite happy to say that all energy and urge to be productive vanished upon arrival! We are staying in a bamboo hut on stilts on Palolem beach facing out to the sea, it is gorgeous here, very peaceful and chilled out. Its amazing to hear the waves crashing in as you drift off to sleep and then again as you wake up. (Although, Jo developed a fierce worry that there would be another Tsunami as some nights the waves sounded huge and really close, ... read more
Well, I think I can finally say that I have had ENOUGH of the buses here! Our journey to the orphanage took a whopping 31 hours- and only 1 and a half of those was spent waiting for connections! Our first leg of the journey was a bus from Udaipur to Mumbai, we were the only white people on the bus, which although we're used to being stared at now, is quite intimidating in suchg a confined space. We stopped numerous times for breaks, we only got off the bus the first time and then swore we wouldn't get off again, I wont even tell you about the toilet habits we witnessed, but I think it has scarred me for life. We arrived into Mumbai without a clue where to go for our next bus- and ... read more
Udaipur is known as the romantic city of Rajasthan- so me and Jo were just a little out of place!! We spent our time here just really relaxing. We didnt managae to book a hotel before arriving- so when we stepped off the bus we took our chances and let a tuk tuk driver take us to one he knew. By coincidence it was next door to the hotel we'd been trying to stay at and we ended up moving there the following day. We literally did nothing all day just sat out in the garden in the sun! One our second day in Udaipur we booked up for a cookery course, I had been really looking forward to this- adding more dishes to my own delia stylee reportoire!! Our teacher was called Shelley and spoke ... read more
Its Monday afternoon as i start typing this. And please quote me on this one..... I NEVER WANT TO GET ON ANOTHER CAMEL AS LONG AS I LIVE! Jokes aside we've had a really funny 3 days on our camel safari, let me start from the beginning... We got picked up by Jeep on Saturday morning and drove for about an hour into the desert, til we met Daniel - our camel guide and desert resident who was accompanied by our two camels. Mine was called Pungar, and Jo's was called Gzee Jzuu. I would like to say that over the following three days i built up some kind of rapport with Pungar, but I would say that we had a bit of a love/hate relationship from the start. He loved slamming his big old hooves ... read more
Namaste everyone (for those uneducated few that's 'Hello" in Hindi), Well where do I start, I've done so much since I last wrote, am backdating this entry as there is too much to all fit into one!! Since my last note we have been moving non stop all around Rajasthan. Still no sign of Fern Britton on her bicycle, Babs ask your contact at 'This Morning' to find out her route for me- although we only have a few days left in Rajasthan now... I would like to add an apology here to the man from Delhi who keeps emailing me about my comments on the city. But i will politely decline your generous offer of coming back to stay with you. Thanks but no thanks. After leaving Agra and our beloved Raj behind, we had ... read more
Hello all, Moved to Agra yesterday thank god- Delhi was awful, and i would stronglay recommend anyone interested not to go there! We stayed in a different hotel on our second night there, which was worse in every way then our first one, more noisy, dirty, basic etc etc and neither of us could sleep properly as we were so excited about catching our 6am train out of there!! I think that was the most unsafe I have ever felt in my life. Right, for those of you who warned against train travel in India... WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!! We thought we'd do things local styleee and travel the lowest class, well we couldnt have made a better decision! We boarded the train to be served in our seats wioth free bottled water ... read more
